Muggers Mile
- Tourists are everywhere on a summer day in Chicago. Guardian Angels are passing out fliers warning people about a rash of crime - calling the area not Mag Mile but ''Muggers Mile.''
The Guardian Angels patrolled the Magnificent Mile by Chicago and Michigan Tuesday. The main target of thieves: smart phones.
But smart-phone theft is going on all over the country. So are the Angels being alarmists and threatening tourism?
The city says tourism numbers now are record breaking. And a police spokesperson said there are hundreds of thousands of people on the Mag Mile every day; incidents, they say, are isolated, and arrests are being made.
The Chicago Police Department website shows 19 street and sidewalk incidents and nine CTA incidents occurring in a two-week period of July, in the Gold Coast, Streeterville and River North neighborhoods.
Guardian Angels have back pedaled a bit, not flat out calling it Muggers Mile, but now saying they don't want it to become ''Muggers Mile.''
Again, here is where CompStat really shines. Reclassify the crimes from "Strong Arm Robbery" to "Theft from Person" and --tada!!!-- Instant drop in violent crime. You don't think they're doing it? How about those juveniles that got caught the other day? The one had another smart phone and was charged with "Theft of Lost/Mislaid Property" probably because no one could identify who committed the actual robbery.
Or the lack of police that is emboldening the robbers? If someone has to wait an hour for a police report, they might as well head home and do it over the phone....or not do it at all. --Tada!!!--- another drop in crime!

Back a career or so ago, NYPD had a unit to fight muggers. One cop would dress in drag, and allow himself to be mugged while the calvary waited nearby. Lets reinstitute the idea and have the decoys wear nonfunctioning Iphones loaded with a few ounces of C-4 armed with a proximity fuse. The Iphone gets 100 feet away from the decoy and it blows the hands off the jag bag thief. Recidivism would plummet after both hands are gone.
Whelp the number don't lie..ha..

Why just last week according the crimeinboystown.blogspot.com story the aldermen told his people only six or seven crimes occurred over a certain number of days. Yet CPD numbers and 9-1-1 transcripts counts at least 13 which is 6 plus 7.

One of the 15-year-old girls -- who punched the Florida teen who tried to help -- also was charged with battery, and one of the boys was additionally charged with theft because police said he had another person's iPhone that had been either lost or stolen earlier Friday at North Avenue Beach.
The target of the robbery is white. All of the assailants are black. Yeah, I know, that's not in the Tribune article. That would be politically incorrect, you see; race is only included in news stories when the alleged perpetrator is white and the victim(s) are black. But Second City Cop tracked it down and confirmed it. Gee, it's not about race eh? How come this time it's not but the other way around invariably is?
And exactly how many people should be frequenting Chicago and spending money, thereby providing the economic activity the city needs to prosper, if animals -- of any race -- are roaming around attacking and robbing people at random?
Answer: Nobody in their right mind.
This has nothing to do with whether someone is black or white.
It has everything to do with whether or not you're a thug. That there is an over-representation of thugs among certain groups is due to their individual choice in actions, not the color of their skin -- unless you, Robert, are arguing that some people are "lesser" because of their race.
I know no liberal would ever make such a claim -- right? That's for those white KKK members down in.... oh, some hillbilly little town in the South.....
Look if someone wants to be a wild thang then they can go right ahead and do it. They're slitting their own throat though, as Detroit discovered. People can "wild" all they want, they can commit all sorts of crimes, they can crap all over where they live.
But let's not kid ourselves -- that's exactly what they're doing -- crapping and whizzing in their own beds.
Why? Because neither they, or you, can force people to stay in a given place and reasonable, law-abiding, peaceful citizens will leave such an environment irrespective of their race, color or creed -- at which point you have no jobs, no chain grocery stores with reasonable prices and no economic opportunity. Eventually the thugs find themselves with no ambulances, no street lights (because they stole all the wiring) hulks of burned out buildings and no tax revenue for pay for services.
Then people like Robert wring their hands and whine when the city cannot pay its cops, firefighters, EMTs and teachers -- and economically collapses.

But see, in Chicago you still can't legally carry the means of effective self-defense. So these two women who had every right to be where they were and to be left alone had no means of defending themselves against a mob of thugs that attacked them.
When seconds count the cops will be by in a few minutes -- to sweep up the mess....

Why doesn't the dept set up covert operations with decoys and their cell phones like they used to do in the 70's and 80's on the el lines. Enough of these punks beating up on citizens for money and cell phones.

I don't get paid to guard a fucking public restroom.
However, on some watch(es) there is usually somebody assigned as "Station Security", so maybe they're the one that anyone pointing fingers anonymously on a blog should take issue with. "Station Security" (one might deduct), would periodically inspect places like the lobby's public shitters. And the parking garage. And the garage to the County side of the building that's never secure. Maybe they can find time to do these types of tasks before and after playing garage attendant to keep VRI visitors from parking in 011s personal vehicle spots.
Or here's one. Maybe, as per S.O. 03-03-03, the District Station Supervisor should actually "conduct daily informal inspections, thereby ensuring that station facilities, grounds, and equipment are kept in good order and the security of the physical plant is maintained." Maybe the missing bathroom piping inquiries should be directed at all those in DSS capacity. I personally like the word "security" in that portion of the order. Read on.
But how does anyone know exactly when the pipes were removed from the bathroom(s)? Coulda happened on any watch as the station is a public building, open to the public 24/7.
When the powers that be don't care enough to throw the filthy, homeless crackhead bums out because "they have every right to be in a public building" and when the department and city refuse to address the safety grievance filed by one of the regular desk guys after one dude came in with a rifle and another jumped the desk on 2/W and tore up computers and battered a P.O., I couldn't care less what happens to or what gets boosted from that building. As long as no coppers get hurt, the savages can steal the place blind.

The Inspector General should obtain all of the robbery and theft reports from the Michigan Avenue, Streeterville, Gold Coast, Oak Street Beach and North Avenue Beach neighborhoods.
He should review the reports and see if the proper classification was attached and if questionable contact the victims. This effort should also include all incidents reported as Unfounded.
This effort would show that Rahm and G-Mac are playing political games with crime reporting.
Pam Zekman would have a field day with the IG's investigation as it would show "Killing Crime" as never ended.
As for Rahm and G-Mac they would have another reason for wanting the IG to be eliminated.

Ok now the guardian angels are targets of idiotic comments! 1 of the leaders black guy named hunt, while I was working Cta special awhile ago chased 2 animals down who took a girls phone, caught him did what was needed to restrain these pos, so I see no negatives and to the angels they all volunteer thank you from a 27 year veteran copper, we need all the help we can get!
It's going to be up to us normal citizens to stop this shit. I'm sure a lot of guys down there see this shit going on and say nothing. Like when that 15 year old girl stepped in, why the hell did no guys walk up and take care of it? If we don't fight back then nothing will change, especially because they know they live in cook county and nothing is going to happen to them. Lisa Madigan has not made a political case of corruption since she has been office. The only thing Madigan is good for are some minor consumer fraud cases. I am still waiting for her to call a state grand jury to investigate the fraud in handing out legislative tuition to state universities. As a shopper and employee that works on the mugger mile , I 'm glad the Guardian Angels are on Patrol , parents can walk their kids to school and on the play grounds if they don't have armed body guards .
Cease Fire, how many incidents of violence did you stop today. Inquiring minds would like to know.
Garry, what's the current rate of public urination write-up's did we have today and what's the trend vs. last year.

This morning at 1:16AM, a concerned citizen reported that a man was on the corner of Halsted Street at Roscoe threatening people and selling drugs.
Police determined that there was no reason to arrest the man in question, so he was sent on his way.
CWB has learned more about this person in our neighborhood.
This particular man in our neighborhood is a known member of the Gangster Disciples.
In February, 2010, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison for trafficking drugs in a protected area such as a school zone or park. Then, in June 2012, he was arrested again, for robbery and possession of a substantial amount of drugs in a protected area such as a school zone or park.
Today, he's another of the many new and interesting people on the streets of our neighborhood.

I used to work those details in the 90's. It was impossible to do, because so many nice people tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out I had money sticking out of my pocket, or I should tuck my jewelry inside my shirt or under my sleeve, or I should secure my purse.
I thanked every one of them politely and changed train cars or buses immediately. My backup HATED working it with me, because people were always looking out for each other back then. Not so much nowadays,
The "Crime in Wrigleyville" blog people think that the 3 robberies downtown in the last month thing is accurate. ha
Unfortunately the stats that need to be run need to include all reports generated of incidents occurring in the vicinity of the mag mile. You really need to read the report to know exactly what happened. Its a time consuming project, but that's the only way to obtain the truth.

Yes, the "old" CTA decoy unit did a great job. Keep in mind though, that Cmdr. Bob Dart was able to handpick his officers, all of whom he knew personally were real police, no clout babies or phonecalls to get in the unit back then. Wouldn't happen today and btw he totally backed his people.
