Nepotism Again Rahm?

Lisa Madigan can appear in public and say with a straight face that Illinois would not be served by having two members of the family in such powerful state positions should she have decided to run for governor, completely ignoring the fact that Illinois has a rich history of related politicos feeding from the same trough - including the Speaker of the House (daddy Mike) and herself as Illinois Attorney General.

The public certainly isn't served well when she can't seem to find even a single instance of politician law-breaking or rule-stretching in her ten years as Attorney General, while the feds managed to put two governors behind bars along with a few aldercreatures and state reps.

Rahm doesn't even bother to fight the appearance of impropriety in appointing the daughter of a corrupt asshole to the most corrupt legislative body in recorded history:
  • Minutes after Deb Mell was sworn in as Chicago's newest alderman Wednesday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel motioned her to the dais in the council chambers and handed her the roll call of colleagues officially agreeing she could join the City Council.

It's a memento of a proud moment for Mell. When she scans the sheet, however, Mell also will be reminded that one alderman voted against her and a handful of others opted not to weigh in.

  • "We are not a monarchy. We're a democracy. Let's start acting like it," said Ald. Bob Fioretti, 2nd, before voting against the Mell succession plan.

Emanuel has positioned himself as the herald of a new, cleaner way of doing political business in Chicago, but with the Deb Mell appointment finds himself defending a process critics say smacks of the old way. The mayor pointed to Deb Mell's work as a state representative and her re-election to that post by many of the same voters who live in the 33rd Ward.
Rahm isn't even pretending anymore. Harold Washington called it "hubris - that's arrogance gone wild." He had it 100% correct.

Isn't that what the Declaration of Independence was about (the escape from monarchy and dictatorship)?

Coal exports bring jobs to Illinois

One of President Obama’s economic goals — to improve our trade balance with the rest of the world — is built on a worthy premise laid out in his 2010 National Export Initiative: sell more products to our trading partners than we buy from them and we will create jobs and add value to our economy

See Obama is all about the trade balance here. WTH happened to the environment EPA imitative and the tough stance on Global Warming?

They go on...

Last year, Illinois’s coal mines helped set an export record that supported 168,430 American jobs at mines, railroads, ports and other businesses throughout the country. Data compiled by Ernst & Young show coal exports created 4,200 high-wage jobs here in Illinois in 2011, paying on average more than $96,000 a year...

***

This spells economic opportunity for Illinois. For every million tons of coal we export, we create 1,320 jobs here at home. That’s the kind of win-win trade relation the president wants more of.

1,320 jobs for every million tons of coal exported eh? Look back at Quinn's speech:

"Illinois exported a record 13 million tons of coal in 2012, a five-fold increase from 2.5 million tons in 2010..."

Okay #1 -- Do the math and show me the Illinois jobs.

#2 -- they are $95k/year jobs on avg...HA! I give you this...

Veeeery interesting. Deb Mell is the State Rep for IL's 40th District and now will also be the alder-Creature for the 33rd Ward too boot. Why isn't that a Conflict Of Interest?

The 40th Dist is comprised of eight Chi Wards, the 33rd being one. So how can the citizens in those other seven wards of the 40th expect that their interests and well-being will be considered in Springfield when Deb's voting? Conversely how can those same citizens expect to be honestly Rep'd when Deb's voting in City Hall? Seems like in both cases the 33rd Ward would get her preference, and all others be damned.

And not to get into any 'icky money stuff' but where's the outrage over Deb Mell now Double Dipping with State and Chicago Pensions and every other double perk she now qualifies for. I thought that Democrats hated DOUBLE DIPPING?

Or is that double dipping outrage reserved only for a person -- usually conservative -- who opts to spend 20-to 25 years in the US military, for crappy pay and worst 'living conditions', and then has to find a job in the private sector that might have a pension plan?

Oh well, I guess none of that counts when it's a Democrat, especially when that Dem is an openly-gay-married-lesbian. Those Chicago Values trump all.

Save your disgust and indignation for the voters of that ward who will rush to follow their master's beck and call and elect her outright in 15, probably by a wide margin over token opposition. Then she will be cemented in for life, unless she chooses not to play ball, which we all know is highly unlikely, or indicted, which these days is very likely. Deb Mell is a total flake. Her position in politics is solely due to her corrupt father. She was marginally employed until daddy put her into the state legislature. Her previous job was cutting lawns. Her highest educational achievement was earning a culinary school certificate. She never bothered to register to vote after moving to a new address while serving in the General Assembly as a legislator.
Her most memorable feat in Springfield was voting against the impeachment of Rod Blagojevich.

At his last political fundraising dinner, in 2013, Dick Mell told the assembly to ignore the reports that he was retiring as mere media speculation that only wanted him to continue to serve longer. Two weeks, later he resigned.

Dick Mell consistently voted against gay rights ordinances until Deb came out of the closet.

Love Rahm's reasoning about Deb Mell's popularity with the voters: elections in the 33rd Ward are as meaningful as those held by the Communist Party in Moscow.

The city has downsized everything except it's council. We have thousands FEWER police officers and other city workers, however there is still plenty of money to pay for all 50 aldermen, who are considered PART TIME, yet retain all the benefits of a full time employee- no private sector job would offer that. No one has given a real explanation as to why there has been no reduction in this area of city government, especially since they constantly use bad economic times as an excuse for cutting the budget everywhere else, especially among the first responders. Mell's seat should stay vacant, as should the seat of the next alderman who is indicted, until we are left with only 25, and even that number is still too many. It amazes me that the sons/daughters of all these politicians are so well educated, holding law degrees and so forth, yet the only employment they can acquire is under coat tails of their politically connected parents. Our government, local and federal alike, has become exactly what our founding fathers rebelled against over 200 years ago- a cleptocratic monarchy controlled by the privileged few, taxing it's citizens into poverty while holding no real interest or allegiance to the very population it was created to serve. It is sickening to watch the same script play endlessly especially here in Chicago. It is interesting to note that Mell's other daughter, Patricia Blagojevich was married to our illustrious governor who was recently sent to jail for trying to sell a senate seat. Now we have another daughter who is elected to city council, with a prior arrest for striking a lieutenant of police no less. Looks like another family of good ethics and standards has been allowed to run the show. Where does it end?
