- Thirteen people, including a 3-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, were shot at a Chicago park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said.
Ten adults and the 3-year-old were transported by Fire Department ambulances after the attack in the 1800 block of West 51st Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Fire Department Deputy District Chief James Mungovan at the scene. A 12th victim was believed to have driven himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, a source said, citing preliminary information.
Police said later a total of 13 people were shot, the boy, two teens, and 10 adults, with the boy the most seriously wounded. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head at an ear that exited through his mouth, and was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

What more can be said. We are at least 1500 coppers short. (And that is a conservative estimate) But what is the community doing to solve its problems? Where is Jesse, Sharpton, Rev. Wright, the rest of the activists and even Obama. Why hasn't the president addressed the pathology that is present in much of the Black community? I think about the costs of this urban violence. The most immediate is medical costs and law enforcement activities. For the average responsible taxpayer citizen reading this blog, other costs will result. There will be new S.S.I. entitlement benefits to those responsible citizens who out at 10 p.m. on a weekday. The officers will follow up this incident and make arrests. Civil suits from north shore attorneys will follow. The costs win or lose will be paid by the taxpayers, The city council will immediately and without delay pay those lawyer who represent criminals. The fees are often in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for their essential legal work while we hear about schools that do not have air conditioning. Priorities. Criminal acts stimulate the economy especially at those LaSalle Street law firms and those righteous civil rights lawyers. Unlike big business, these lawyers seek social justice and not their own bottom line i.e. personal profits. And let us not forget those federal judges appointed for life, who are buddies in the bar with these justice seeking lawyers suing the guardians of society. The money made by these private attorneys in criminal suits are peanuts compared to hitting the jackpot paid for by taxpayers if a finding of liability is handed down on the city or police officers. Justice is no longer about right or wrong but rather lawyer’s personal greed/compensation that can be secured with a favorable court decision. And lets forget the officers who risk their lives making society a safer place who must divulge their assets and risk losing their jobs stemming from greedy lawyers and their lawsuits seeking cash money. Crime does pay. Wake up America.

There's two simple answers really.
Legalize and tax the drugs turning the people doing the sales into legit businesses where they can be taxed and contribute to society.

To the cops who work VRI anywhere anytime I am glad that you went home safe to your families. Whoever wrote the above piece is very likely not a cop and a fool to boot.
This incident was s great outrage.
The fact that it occurred with VRI and "Boxes" around shows the failure of the 35th St. braintrust meltdown..
It occurred under Rahm and McCarthy's overall strategy to run this department on the cheap and that makes it even a greater outrage.
Get rid of that Brooklyn Bozo and never call him "Mr. Superintendent".

Generally the person who yells fire in a crowded theater is held responsible for his or her own actions. Politician want to punish all gun owners for the criminal who uses a gun. Huge difference.
