One Goes to Jail

  • A contractor who hid the ownership stake two of former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s closest relatives had in a sewer company that got millions of dollars worth of city business was sentenced Wednesday to 17 months in prison.

Anthony Duffy, 49, deliberately left out the names of Daley’s son Patrick Daley and nephew Robert Vanecko when he listed all of the owners of his business, Municipal Sewer Service, in financial disclosure forms he filed with City Hall in 2003, and then he lied about it in an FBI interview.

If that silent omission was at the heart of the case, the former mayor’s connection to it was the elephant in the room during the sentencing hearing on Wednesday.

Though Judge Milton Shadur found time during the 21/2-hour hearing to discuss philosopher Immanuel Kant, biblical King Solomon and historic British court practices, the former mayor himself was only referred to obliquely.

Duffy’s deception was motivated by “political concerns, because the media would become involved” and was not done with the “intent of concealing any crime,” Duffy’s attorney, John Meyer, said in one of several coded references to Mayor Daley.
This guy couldn't speak up and maybe put a Daley and a Vanecko behind bars? Watch where he lands after his 17 month stint at Club Fed.

Last week we had our Blue recycling cart delivered to our house. City workers driving rented Penske trucks!
The Streets and Santitation Yard by Wright Colled has a thousand of the blue carts stored and many of them are already loaded on the S And S trucks, so who's getting the $ to rent their trucks?

' [...]...but it was the news last year that DiFoggio had been wearing a wire for the feds — leading to high-profile corruption convictions of a former Chicago alderman and Cook County commissioner — that stunned even those who thought they knew him best.

On Tuesday night, it all came to a tragic end. DiFoggio, 58, was found dead of a single gunshot wound to the mouth at his business, DiFoggio Plumbing, in the 3200 block of South Shields Avenue, authorities said. A family member went to check on him at the business and discovered the body with a .357-caliber handgun lying nearby.

The county medical examiner's office ruled DiFoggio's death a suicide after an autopsy Wednesday. No note was found. '

Read Ben Joravsky in the Reader about Daley's testimony on a deposition. The guy sounds positively stupid. Couldn't even identify his own picture at the dedication at Millenium Park. Can't remember anything about Millenium Park, didn't know what it was. Don't know 'nuttin 'bout no bean.

What a fucking moron, definitely belongs in prison. Now that would give me a world class woody, the sight of Daley being led through the front door of a Federal prison.

Ahhh, remember the good old days when we had Daley to kick around every day?

re: Daley's deposition in the Park Grill investigation:

To almost every question he was asked, Daley answered, "I don't recall," "It's hard to say," "I wouldn't know," or the classic "I don't know what I knew."

Classic Daley:

And so Stephen Novack, the Park Grill's lawyer, hauled the former mayor in for a deposition to ascertain what Daley did and when he did it.

They had some great exchanges, like this:

Novack: Do you recall Mr. Horan and Mr. O'Malley coming to your office and showing you renditions of what the interior was going to look like?

Daley: They could have. I wouldn't recall.

Novack: Do you recall asking them to move the bar from the front of the restaurant to the back of the restaurant?

Daley: I don't recall.

regarding a photo taken at the grand opening:

Novack: Do you recognize yourself in that picture?

Daley: It's kind of blurry. I guess it's me, if it is.

When the deposition ended, Novack said he was reserving the right to ask the judge to order that Daley be deposed again. He said there would be three purposes: "One, to order him [Daley] to answer questions he wouldn't answer. Two, to answer without being coached by the lawyers, plural, in this room. And three, to be videotaped so the judge can watch the witness look at the lawyer before every answer."

I think we could charge admission to watch a Daley deposition.
---

Pretty soon Daley will be walking around with an oxygen tank, nasal canula and a walker, like old mafioso being hauled into Federal Court.

Thanks to Ben Joravsky.

@ 10/31/2013 12:47:00 AM...

Does Michael Scott ring a bell?

Solve THAT one... You'll have the pieces in place to find out where a shit ton of pension money was diverted to...

Chicago Police and Fire Pension funds are financial crime scenes...

Rahm is here to destroy them.
No crime scene = No awkward questions or fed investigation by current and future administrations.

The same people screaming about reforming us out of our pensions such as Rauner, Msall, Fahner et al., were ALL lined up to make a fucking killing if Chicago had gotten the 2016 bid...

Whatever happened to Allison Davis and the other criminal Vanecko whelp?

$70+ Million in muni employee pension money STOLEN, they get THEIR "handling fee" and when the whole ball of shit disintegrates in shortshanks hands, he sics the media on us casting us as "greedy," steps down because the jig is up and Rahm slides in to finish the job of busting us out...

A shit ton of people ought to be rotting alive in federal prison for this.

What federal investigation?
Why the fuck do you think who is in the White House is IN the White House?

The Chicago Way...

Although Daley and Vanecko were not mentioned by Duffy, they were still involved. How does this prevent them from being prosecuted?

I always wondered why a dropout from West Point, who got an MBA from the University of Chicago would join the Army as a grunt, when he was in his late 20's. With the country fighting 2wars, how could he avoid a combat assignment, yet get promoted to sergeant after one enlistment?

Imagine what price the last US Attorney demanded to keep Daley out of prison. He, apparently, was the only person in all of Illinois who didn't know Daley was a crook. Now he's got a fat cat job at a connected law firm, go figure.

Oh he knows Daley is a crook all right. If for no other reason, I wrote plenty of letters telling him so and where to look. All to no avail. He wanted witnesses with testimony, smoking gun stuff.

I guess the same way a son of a Chicago area bigwig could attend Harvard U., obtain his J.D. (law degree) and afterwards join the military, entering at the rank of Captain, and upon leaving, return to Chicago and obtain the position of "executive asst. to the Mayor", attending CAPS meetings and the like, then become the Chief of Staff under Jody Weis (provided with gold star & gun without ever receiving a minute of police training), and after being fired from the CPD by a former Supt., land on his feet as the Director of Homeland Security under Preckwinkle & the Cook County Sheriff's Dept. Some here know him as Masters Masters Masters.

Bill Daley dropped out because his brother Shortshanks has soiled the Daley name so badly there wasn't enough of a war chest to buy him the Governor's office. Not this time, and likely, not ever.
