These Idiots Have Brains?

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing for tougher sentences for illegal gun possession, but state officials are now warning they would have to build more prison capacity to house the extra inmates.

For months, the mayor, police Supt. Garry McCarthy and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez have been urging the Legislature to approve stiff mandatory minimum sentences for illegal gun possession.

On Tuesday, an Illinois Department of Corrections spokesman said the legislation would carry a hefty price tag — almost $1 billion over 10 years to house an additional 3,860 inmates in the prison system, which currently holds about 49,000 inmates.
Well we've got a perfect solution - Boot Camps!

Oh wait, that solution didn't work last time.

How about this - law abiding people carry firearms, concealed. After a few bad guys get shot while doing their stickups and such, they might learn a little bit of restraint, something they obviously never learned from their parent, school, community or society at large. The number of people actively committing criminal acts will fall as it has in 49 other states, and the savings from not incarcerating them can be a windfall refunded to the taxpayers or cut from their tax bills.

But Rahm and McDoofus aren't allowed to take credit as they never offered support in the first place.

i think we see the plan here.

mandatory sentences so they can bust a few conceal carry people on b.s. charges. that will discourage the conceal carry here right.

also ...

[...]... As to users inundating the FBI's bitcoin wallet with protests against the drug war, this is an additional irony. Since it is not possible to identify them, they need not fear any reprisals, which is giving them an excellent opportunity to vent their opinion on the senseless 'drug war'. That isn't going to change anything, but we suspect that even within the FBI there are by now many people who are questioning whether the 'war on drugs' makes any sense. As noted previously, after more than 30 years, it has yet to attain a single one of its purported official objectives. That leaves basically only one possibility if one employs Occam's razor in pondering the question why it is continued: the official objectives are not the true objectives. There is a hidden agenda...

You'll just never learn, will you, you pesky republicans!
Wherever there is a social issue, there isn't really a demand for a logical solution, only another opportunity for the state (as long as it's run by our machine) to swoop in with another gimmick designed to reap a windfall for our party and for whatever downtrodden class of potential voters to get in line for our next payoff scheme.

There. Don't you feel better already? Knowing this is just another plan to take money from some (the idiot taxpayer), and spend it mostly on ourselves and throow a little at whoever we choose...

Hey... I know. Everyone should have a house. It should be a right, like education and healthcare. That's right, next up...free housing. And, no, not more rental vouchers. Actual ownership subsidies. But not if you work.

Legal guns and concealed carry are only part of the solution. Less liberal judges are a big part and the willingness to execute on a regular basis. I hear rumors that in Texas the average citizen approves of State executions and that they do them on a regular basis. That way death row does not get too overcrowded.

Woo-Hoo!...Yippee!...Yahoo!! Finally, as of yesterday no more ties to Chiraq. My 86 yo mother-in-law closed on the sale of her house in Brighton Park (0821).

What once was a nice safe middle class neighborhood when I & the wife grew up there (me on 0924 bordering 0921) in the 1950s & 60s but now....pfft....fugetaboutit. The final straw for the wife getting her mom out was the closing and bulldozing of the White Castle on Archer & Kedzie. I wanted her out when Chesden's Pizza at Archer & Christiana closed.

So no more worries, the gangbangers can fire away for all I care. The MIL is now safe in her new home 1,000 ft away from us as the crow flies.

So screw you Rahm. We will miss it -- NOT!!

No, it won't. And they know it.

The courts are not enforcing the current gun penalties so what makes you think they will honor new tougher laws.

I like your plan, however just to be on the safe side let us bring back the death penalty. Plus none of this three strikes and you are out, victim one and victim two count just as much as victim three. I like our prison guards and I don’t see why they or our military need to spend time babysitting the worst of the worst.

Electric chair or firing squad, either is more humane than these criminals deserve. Start killing all the murderers, rapists and kidnappers, which should free up lots of room. If you need more room start with the next tier of attempted murderers, rapists and kidnappers. Eventually you will have the beginnings of what Johnson should have envisioned when he started his “Great Society”!

How about this...austere barracks above the tree line in the arctic. It worked for the Russians for many years, you don't even need a lot of expensive security equipment. a few machine gun towers, some razor wire, and hungry polar bears and wolves will do the rest. A daily march to the tree line, where they cut a quota of wood, (no quota, no food) and liberal beatings for insolence, and there you have it! a character building exercise. Send crooked pols too.

I really don't think stricter gun laws OR concealed carry is going to deter these animals from making every street they occupy a shooting gallery. Most of this violence obviously comes from gang bangers, and they already KNOW the other guy is armed. That doesn't seem to be preventing any shootings. Sad thing is they reproduce faster than they kill each other off.

Occam's razor would sooner suggest people charged with the task of locking up drug dealers have been doing what they can with what they have for as long as there have been drug laws to enforce.

the idea that we all have to search for a hidden agenda or speculate the personal thoughts of a few fbi agents that may be losing their sense of focus in the long term or short term gain is irrelevant.

the most obvious answer is still a society determined to live and maintain a lawful order, not any clandestine meeting of the secret cult, that gathers in the forest wearing goat heads and carving up effigies of babies in a sexcrazed ancient blood letting ritual.

How much cheaper than $10 Billion would it be to provide whatever remedial firearms (accuracy) training to the police and enact a law providing for civil immunity to the citizenry for making an armed offender assume room temperature?

Seems that those options would be cheaper and, ultimately, more effective.

What is there to dislike about armed, peaceable citizens exercising the right of self defense against cowardly, angry, aggressive attackers? Of course, legal carry must be permitted in parks, on public transportation, at bus stops, and in public shopping malls and stores for there to be effective, meaningful carry.

TREAT THE PRISONERS AS THEY DO IN ARIZONA.

Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, don ated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.

He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the Prison.

Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO

HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF

------

No. Actually, the "war on drugs" was never started. Drugs are legal in Crook Co and have been for a long time. 5-6 "drug courts" to sweep it all under the rug and divert law breakers from embarrassing lazy, incompetent prosecutors.

Crime dropped in the late 80s and 90s due to long sentences for criminals. The laws were too good and too effective. This is why the fed crack cocaine sentences were reduced -- blacks and libs saw too many Dem voters going to prison. Can't have that. Need to put 'em back on the street, which is why Gov. Squish lets felons on 5 year Class 1 convictions out on "work release" after 2 months. The press is ignorant of this.

That idiot Quinn cries about how expensive it is to keep someone housed in prison.

So to save $143/day, they let him out.

He shoots someone who goes to an ER. That is probably about a $20K minimum. That's 139 days in jail.

That's a low ball cost estimate. How much did those 12 people shot at the park cost the State in med bills? Way more than it would have cost to keep the SH locked up.

Chicago speed cameras catch 205K leadfoots in opening weeks

oh come on now. half these people don't have the money to pay your fines..so y'all have to tow their cars.

then, when they try to take the bus and the line of people tapping their non-functional cta ventra cards makes them late they'll get fired.

woo-hoo. it's a windfall for the city....maybe,

--------------------------------
via wbez

New data show Chicago’s nascent speed camera system is already lightening the city’s lead feet, but the numbers are also prompting critics to wonder whether City Hall is in for a massive revenue windfall at taxpayers’ expense.

Cameras in nine so-called “safety zones” near four Chicago parks logged 204,743 speeding violations between Aug. 26 and Oct. 3, according to data obtained through a Freedom of Information Act Request.

The cameras are not yet churning out actual tickets, but had they been, those nine alone would have generated nearly $13.9 million worth of citations in just 39 days, according to WBEZ’s analysis

http://www.wbez.org/news/chicago-speed-cameras-catch-205k-leadfoots-opening-weeks-108893

==================================

so wait... 204,743 tickets / 9 cameras == 22,750 tickets per camera / 39 days == 583 tickets per day per camera.

503 tickets for a full 24 hour time period would be 20 tickets per hour roughly or one every three minutes.

are you buying that.

these things are not suppose to be running 24/7 either..so..
