- Two people were shot to death and 14 others were wounded in city shootings from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.
- Three people were injured in separate shootings on the south and northwest sides, police said.
We confess, we are amused that the Tribune has taken it upon themselves to specifically say "Three people injured in separate shootings..." We suppose that they've realized every number that came out of HQ for the past 3 years was, of course, horseshit, and they look like morons reporting it.
The Sun Times shooting map is filling up nicely - and by nicely, we mean every single shooting was south of Chicago Avenue and East of Cicero as of yesterday.

OT: read in the paper about the guy from Lincoln park that accidentally (recklessly) discharged his firearm in his apartment. Said police charged him with "failing to register his guns." Is it me, or didn't they do away with the whole gun registration? How can they charge this guy with that. Just wondering.
OT question: Doctor in Lincoln Park area gets pinched for firing gun in condo that goes thru wall. But is charged with "Unregistered firearms." Thought registration was repealed with the new CCW law. Saw where CPD Directive said not to enforce.

I weep at the carnage that occurs on our streets on a daily basis. Does no one realize we are killing off the bright young men and occasional woman who will lead us into the future? These are the young people that would have become our future doctors, engineers, scientists, intellectuals and artists. Our broken society is allowing these youth to die from a bullet, rather than live to lead us into a glorious future. Somehow our generation and the baby boomers before us have failed them. Our CPD had failed them.

Just be glad that there is still a high level of incompetence on the department due to Daley's political hacks being appointed beyond their ability levels.. How else could you get away with crime in Crook County?
All recruits working in the highest crime areas. Not their fault but maybe time to look at the FTO program. How can one FTO train 3 recruits at a time? Go back to out of grade slips and each Commander should designate assignment of recruits to those hard working officers. More foot posts in hot spot locations. Put officers in pairs and give them a vehicle on their post. Be on your post and start taking names and locking them up for everything. Shitheads hate parking tickets, traffic citations, and the deadly ANOV. Let's at least take away some of their drug profits.

A relative of mine is taking her husband and two children and moving to the suburbs in June. They both work in the banking industry and live in the south loop. They are tired of the crime, especially the wildings they see on a regular basis in the summer. I've told her this is no place to raise children. She finally listened.

Throughout the Class Period, the Defendants concealed the fact that they were not providing a marketplace free of market manipulation because they were allowing the HFTs to trade based upon non-public information, specifically, the non-published and unexecuted orders of all other users of the CME and CBOT. In so doing, the Defendants failed to provide a marketplace that is free from market manipulation and established an unequal and two-tiered marketplace all the while inviting and soliciting the use of its financial trading instruments for profit.
Well, duh. Apparently it took the general public a Michael Lewis book to reread out post from October 2012 in which we showed that an estimated over 30% of CME revenues were made from HFT - in other words from selling proprietary data in direct feeds to high-paying subscribers, that hits collocated servers ahead of the consolidated tape.
HFT = High Frequency Traders.

Man brandished gun after getting mad about soda tax
5:38 p.m. CDT, April 13, 2014
"A West Garfield Park man was ordered held on no bail Sunday after...he brandished a gun at convenience store employees and customers because he was angered over the tax he had to pay for a bottle of Pepsi.
"Nahshon X. Shelton, 36, of the 4200 block of West Caroll Avenue, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and other counts ...took place at Madison Grocery and Beauty in the 4000 block of West Madison Street...
"Shelton entered the store and was angry over being charged 22 cents in tax for a $1.79 2-liter bottle of soda
“(Because this) is my neighborhood, I’m tax-exempt,” he said...
Shelton returned to the store... carrying a Gucci satchel, from which he pulled out a loaded gun,...He began waving the gun around “while yelling that he was going to shoot and kill everyone in the store...”
“I’m going to shoot you in the head three times!” he said,
"The incident was captured on video surveillance... Police responded and recovered the gun, which had one round in the chamber, eight rounds in one magazine and five in a second clip..

This was a very bloody weekend. Absolute mayhem . How the reverends and other community leaders don't march on City Hall is beyond me. The mayor is spending money on DePaul, bike lanes, and another tribute to the Daley family with that stupid park. That money should be spent on protection in these violent neighborhoods. Hire more cops . No more tributes to the Daleys who have ruined this city. Nice deal on the parking meters, Rich. This is a despicable situation. Sick!

Wow, shootings in Chicago? Never heard of something like that. It must be some kind of mistake, because according to my calculations crime has been down approximately 250% since 2000. If I am not mistaken we actually are in a crime deficit. I say, balderdash! There is no crime in Chicago. The youth of Englewood can barely speak proper English, let alone process a scientific thought. Their math skills are limited to converting grams to ounces so they can sell weed. Their artistic skills are limited to whatever comes out of a spray paint can and goes onto a wall. And their engineering skills? Yeah. Maybe he was a little off with some of the people he lays blame on, but he speaks some truth. The last couple of generations has failed this generation. "It takes a village to raise a child"? "Children are the future"? Our future is fucked. Think about it: the baby who was just injured was born to a gangbanging- shoot while my baby and babies mother are in the car- father and a mother who probably knows nothing about motherhood. That kid is fucked in life. hope for the better, but I know reality. Kids in the ghetto have parents DEPENDING on them to strike it rich because they didn't do shit while they had the chance. I could go all in to the reasons why that equates to drug dealing/wanting easy money fast, but thats another day and I really dont feel like it lol. A relative of mine is taking her husband and two children and moving to the suburbs in June. They both work in the banking industry and live in the south loop. They are tired of the crime, especially the wildings they see on a regular basis in the summer. I've told her this is no place to raise children. She finally listened.
Regular people are growing tired of this shit and they ARE leaving. Detroit here we come.

It's a matter of time before a citywide 10-1 blows up and we don't have the bodies to handle it. The scary thing is look around your roll call room and you can count on one hand how many people are actually "The Police".
Let me ask you this... How many peple in roll call used to be the police? Some are just beat down. Others have moved on and just waiting for that magical 20 and out. Fuck this city and fuck being the police.

That time will never come. Am retired now,but saw the same thing when I was active. We had dogs too, but when a 10-1 came in all the guys moaning about not doing anything anymore on the job started rolling. The few dogs that wouldn't ,their partners would respond taking them along.
Still have full confidence that the po's of the CPD will always show up when a fellow po calls for help.
