Nice Neighborhood Rahm
- A man was robbed early Thursday morning around the corner from Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home on the North Side, Chicago Police said.
The 29-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of West Berteau Avenue at 5:45 a.m. when a man got out of a white van, implied he had a weapon, and demanded the victim’s backpack, according to police.
The victim, who is hearing-impaired, gave the man his backpack and the robber got back into his van and drove away, police said.
We know that there are at least two and as many as four squads, marked and unmarked, parked within spitting distance of the Rahm homestead - spitting distance so Rahm can gob on those who keep him safe at night. You'd think with that kind of presence, robberies might be at a minimum in the area, but we guess not.
Earlier reports had the robbery across the street from Rahm's house. It's currently "around the corner." By next week, it'll be all the way in Evanston and no longer part of the CompStat equation.

Rahm Emanuel and Garry McCarthy have stolen police resources from taxpaying area to give to the ghetto. As a result crime is on the rise in the quiet neighborhoods and downtown. I live on the NW side and almost never see a patrol car. When they lie and say crime is down it drives me nuts!
People need to wake up and call their alderman and demand police protection not be stolen from them. OR you can move away from the city like many have done.

That really was a nice neighborhood. I lived a block away from rahm's lair from 1955 to 1980, and you could walk the streets at any hour without being mugged. It breaks my heart to see it now, after shortshanks and shitheel turned it into yuppie town, complete with roaming shitheads, with property taxes bordering the ridiculous. Thanks, ass holes.

PRE's crime problem has been as bad as that of many Chicago neighborhoods for a while. You just don't hear about it.

Not to change the subject, but this raises a very interesting question. Of course no one wants to be attacked under any circumstances, but what are your options in a situation like this? I don't know exactly how it played out, but assuming there was a hand-in-pocket...does the perpetrator's admission that they have a weapon and intend to use it if necessary, combined with a shrouded demonstration, and the knowledge that a handgun can be fired through clothing, constitute sufficient evidence of jeopardy of great bodily harm? At least if he were thoughtful enough to produce a toy gun, an argument could potentially be made that it appeared real. And if hands are in full-view and empty, of course, that alone doesn't constitute an imminent threat. But hand-in-pocket plus admission? What do you do? Legit question.

The City ought to give me something really useful, such as Crime Reduction Toilet Paper. I can then wipe my ass with it with a good chance of it being suited for the task at hand. Just print it up on rolls of Charmin and put some promotions on it near the end.
