Chop Shop Jackpot

  • Police said they have recovered more than 200 vehicles from a Southeast Side salvage yard that had been previously identified as stolen.

Sources said that 245 vehicles recovered from the salvage yard at 3033 E. 106th St., were found to have been stolen and that many of them had been destroyed and were not intact. Officials said the vehicles were taken to the salvage yard to be stripped for parts and scrap.
And again, this was a shop that an aldercreature got tax breaks for. We know politicians are crooks, and they aid and abet crooks all the time. But to actively subsidize them instead of letting them score their own graft? What is the world coming to?

Of the steals recovered, were there prominent particular makes and models (Cadillac Escalades, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Porsche, other foreign sports cars, SUVs, sedans, convertibles, etc.)?

I find this story to be quite hilarious because approximately 8 years ago when I was working a traffic car in 004 I found it kind of suspicious that a flatbed tow driving east on 95th st at Escanaba was hauling a pretty new looking Cadillac Escalade minus the rims and it didnt have a scratch or a dent on it. I stopped the truck ran the vin and bingo it comes up stolen. The owner of the vehicle was driving right behind the tow truck heading to the east side wrecker. I hauled everyone into 004th district. I notified the dicks, ASA's office told them what I had. I ended up with nothing!!!! nada...zilch. Not even a PSMV charge. Thats how things work in this shit hole town. Anyplace else that prick would have been locked up. Fast forward 8 years layer and look what we found. Ah to live and die in Shitgago.

This is a huge embarrassment for officers in 004.

Police had NO idea there were hundreds of stolen cars there. Citizen discovers it!

As far as crooked pols dealing with crooks? Business as usual.

no, not it the cars were previously reported stolen. If they were reported stolen last year then it only counts as a recovery for 2014.

I am shocked and outraged. I can't believe one of our own AlderCreeps might be on the takes. ALL subsidies and TIF should be abolished. Just handouts of our hard earned tax dollars to thieves for politicians to get political donations and more.

There is a former alderwomen, now a judge running for a higher judge position who was a roadblock to any type of crime control in 006 when it came to shutting down the problem taverns. In fact, she represented these problem, but connected lounges as their attorney.Too many aldermen in this town with way too much power far beyond the legislative process, which they easily ignore or sell out. Alderman should have nothing to do with permits or licenses as it is done in other cities.

REALLY, it has nothing to do with an undermanned district and department running from job to job, and shooting to shooting.??? No embarrassment here...come to 004 dork and show us how it is done.

I came on the job in 1965... Yes, 49 years ago. I was assigned to the old Kensington District (005) at 115th & Indiana. In those days our district ran from 76th & Vincennes to the west to the IC RR track @ at 76th & Greenwood tp the east. Our southern most east point was Altgeld Gardens and the city limits at 139th Street boarding Riverdale, Il. We has 16 cars total for the district. Yes, all cars were up on every watch. No down cars in those days. it was strange that any auto thefts we had were recovered in the 004th district just east of us. Hum . . . I wonder if history repeats itself...

I am certain that this will not show up on CompStat! -Those 245 stolen vehicles were just petty vandalism reports, according to McJersey's Crime Numbers Game standards!

Not really, they are usually too busy putting up crime scene tape or sitting on safe passage routes only blocks away. Where do you work?

Them being part 1 offenses and all, that could positively affect some numbers!

Okay Now Its Time For Your Reality Check. It is very difficult to get Felony Charges Approved for Auto Theft. Even if Approved, A Conviction is very unlikely. Victims will not come to court, more than once.
