Mayor Rahm Emanuel made sure of that Thursday — well before the president decides where to put his library — as Emanuel announced plans to build a selective-enrollment high school, the city’s 11th, on the North Side using $60 million in tax-increment financing money and eventually serving 1,200, giving much needed hope to parents who want their kids to have a chance at the best high school education the city has to offer.
And as an added bonus, Obama High will, at no extra charge, automatically seal your transcripts for the next 50 years regardless of actual academic standing.
In the meantime, 54 schools closed, a new $60 million dollar building, and another massive expenditure in the face of a $600 million balloon pension payment Rahm has no intention of making.

One of the theories about Obama's transcripts is he applied for aid as a foreign student. Either way, whether he's a foreigner or a student who received money under false pretenses, he's guilty.
I thought the rule was we only name a school for someone AFTER they die.

It has now become frighteningly clear that Rahm Emanuel is DELIBERATELY DEPLETING the TIF money so there won't be any money left to make the required pension payment next year.
I don't usually advocate for running to the unions for everything, but in this case, our unions should file suit to halt all of this spendthrift behavior until the pension payment is completed.

So how much property tax is this high school going to pay?
I though the number of Chicago school children was slowly decreasing over the years, along with the population? This new school is going to be in addition to the $100 million for window AC units for classrooms. In the meantime Chicago is bankrupt. The final insult is naming it after Obama, but putting it on the northside. If anything needs to be named after Obama, maybe it could be an addition to the sewer plant or a new trash dump.
I figured out how they will get the $100 Million to spend for the Obama Library.
They will just pull it from "the secret fund" and it will be there.
In order to appease all the city workers in Chicago, retirees and their immediate families will be able to come in free, no admission charge, since their pensions will be reduced by 30%.
A fair trade-off. You can visit the library many times a year. Free.
Money for this, money for that and money for the other thing, but not that OTHER thing, the pensions.

No, it doesn't. The longer a TIFF district exists the more money is skimmed from the taxpayers.
This money is collected without fail every year as taxes are paid.
The 500 million plus dollars skimmed from taxpayers every year is not borrowed, it is skimmed from existing districts and put into interest bearing accounts without fail.
The city doesn't need to borrow against "future tiff taxes" because it already collects over half a billion dollars every year from existing TIFF districts.
Increasing the tax rates only piles on MORE money into secret slush funds since that increase is immediately skimmed at tax time.
There is no "borrowing" nor is TIFF a "one time infusion" of cash as City Hall has lied to the public about.
TIFF is skimmed every year, without fail, and is stolen directly from the taxpayers pockets where it's supposed to be spent on government services and debt, instead it's funneled to the already rich looking to build for free in Chicago.
Obama high? Don't they have a picture of that with him sporting a slick brim from the seventies?
We citizens of Chicago need to build more than a HS and Library in honor of our most illustrious citizen and his Chicago born and bred wife. Obama introduced the Chicago way to our Federal Government and national politics. Michelle introduced good diet to public schools nation wide, along with home gardening and the benefits of dance. They sent their right hand man to lead us and be our mayor. Chicago can never repay all it owes to the first couple.

In Chicago having a public school named after you does not necessarily assure you of immortality. Buildings have a way of being renamed (Harrison High School, Wilson and Herzl Colleges) as soon as the neighborhood changes.

The Children's Fountain she had installed on Wacker was yanked out by King Richard the Second. It was put in storage for years, then quietly painted black and installed, I think near Lincoln Park Zoo. No attribution to her.

Why build this academic gem in the previous killing fields of the publically financed, failed Cabrini Green public housing? Let rahm’s campaign donors use this land for cafes, bistros, art studios, green companies and related money making big businesses.
This high end academic institution should be erected in the impoverished Englewood community. This would be an anchor for economic development which will provide much needed sustenance and economic opportunity for the poor. Economic revitalization! Straight up Hope and Change, for real! Just think, it’s obama’s grass roots south side just miles from his Chicago home. Selective enrollment for top students? This is a way of saying inner city youth victims of public education need not apply. The poor will be shut out and you might as well have the National Guard, the deployment of crowd control fire hoses and lots guard dogs at the door of the admissions office. Its like a voucher system for the lakefront liberal's children without south and west side representation. Selective enrollment is a control mechanism to keep the perceived bad influence from holding back the privileged lakefront liberal’s children.
I say give the down trodden a chance by holding a lottery making them equal with those had an advantage of geography to attend the better performing schools. This is pro-choice position on the future of the poor’s children. Allow all children of the most loyal democrat inner city base to attend the school named after the executive hero whose idolized portrait is hung prominently in each one of their under performing schools. Only top performers at this school are permitted since “inclusiveness” of lesser performing students may drag down the schools ranking. In addition, the school needs to cultivate a carefully managed selection effort for top performers to maintain the probability of a high school ranking. A low school ranking would tarnish a media created superstar status of the nation’s highest office holder’s legacy. An image trumps opportunity for the victim’s of economics and geography who must take a seat at the back of the educational equality bus.

I guess you've never noticed before that Presidents generally travel without their families and it's unusual and newsworthy when they do.
Of course, if the family DID travel with him, you'd be up in arms and pitching a bitch about how much money he's wasting by taking them all along.
Just tonight I watched the last episode of Chicagoland. The Fenger principal was saying that her school census is down because the Charter schools are "taking" students from the Fenger area. For eight weeks she's been saying that she wants the best for the students, she wants them to succeed. Hey Mz Dozier....those schools didn't "take" anyone. The parents of those Charter school kids put them there because THEY want their kids to succeed, not be stuck in Fenger with the pants around the ass, slow walking, disobedient, gang banging students that you have there.
Just tell the truth; you want more kids so the school stays open and you keep your job. If they start cutting high schools, you are TOAST!

Here's a couple of hot ones...Lake View High School principal Dr. Lilith Werner is out at the helm after only two years after replacing longtime principal Scott Feaman in 2012. Lake View's staff were informed via a letter in their mail boxes during 8th Period Friday. As of Friday, Werner was gone and her office cleaned out. No word yet on why she's OUT, but, speculation is it may have to do with the LSC teacher survey tampering.

General speculation in both Lake View and Taft are strong CTU schools and getting rid of the current administrations will lead to getting rid of the teachers and staff who embarassed Rahm during the stike, along with their high salaries.
