It's rather funny how so many of these sergeants who had lower scores get assigned north, really? Area North D/C front office girl and goes back to 025! Must be nice for those in this class when the department sent so many of us north siders south, a bunch to 005. This system is really screwed up, if 25 has the openings post them so sergeants with seniority can bid
SCC, maybe you or someone at FOP can explain. A recently promoted SERGEANT has decided to keep his election spot as a Trustee for the FOP. Isn't this a classic example of a conflict of interest. I don't understand how a SERGEANT, who is considered as management for the Chicago Police Department can represent the best intentions for police officers that he supervises on a daily basis. How can this SERGEANT vote on grievances or legal defense issues that are the result of a Supervisors actions? I'm very troubled about this. We might as well put Mayor Emmanuel on our pension board as a voting member. I left a message for Dean Angelo and I am waiting for a call back. If anyone else can explain this issue please advise.

Let's just say if a Lt. lived North with no juice or was meritorious, they went far South. A few went North. One even got backed doored into 025.
Why is the city aka the mayor, holding up the 2014 Police Sergeants
test results? This will only feed into any of the rumors running around now. Will there ever be a fair way to be considered for merit promotions? or will it continue to be nepotism?
I saw the last transfer order and I was shocked to see some of the Sergeants transferred. How is it possible that a person makes Sergeant and about 1 month after graduating transfers from 003 to 016? Ive never seen such blatant abuse/politics in my life. Now I know its time to go because not everyone has been born with an uncle, aunt or relative that can pull such strings.
Some very unhappy people going to 003. Ouch.
My question is if the guy in charge of ETHICS was getting free parking valued at 8K a year?

This department is so F¥<led there has NOT been one legitament test on this department it't always been the clouted one getting the promotions from the dawn of time and anybody who says they made it on test score alone is a liar and I 've told quite a few to their faces!

This is way off topic, but I heard Rahm saying yesterday that the plastic bag ban is for the children. "banning the plastic bags will improve the lives of children and families in this city".

For those of you in GEU stay clear of CP's coming from 003. He is a militant, chauvinistic, dangerous and ruthless m/f who has several open racial/gender related beefs. The entire 2nd and 3rd watch can not stand this poor merit excuse of a Sgt. He was dumped out of the D Unit for some serious shit and now goes back to OCD? I guess the Chiefs who interview candidates didn't even bother to look at his background. If you would have pulled his Personnel record or just searched his name on the internet you would see what type of individual he is which leads me to believe that this "transparent" application process is all bullshit. Well, we PO's in 003 are surely happy to see him go however we never thought he's be going to a unit.
Good Riddance and he's someone else's problem now. To the new Sgt.'s replacing him in 003, welcome!

The sgt. you speak of is a great guy and has the best interest of the membership at all times. If I were you, I'd worry about Kenny "America's Guest" Hauser being a trustee. If a board member gets promoted then he/she can finish out their term of office.
I would be more concerned that more than half the board are retired. They can't vote on our contract or grievances.
I would also be more concerned that two people that were elected by us are not going to be brought in as field reps. Wasn't that a Dean Angelo promise? Instead, because a deal was made to get Tom McDonough's support, Tom goes up instead of someone we elected.
According to my sources the below listed groups/individuals financially supported Dean:
Tom McDonough-- Dean made him a field rep (D-5 pay).
Bill Nolan- was brought back as immediate past president- $600 per month
John Dineen- was made parliamentarian at $600 per month. Parliamentarians have never been paid in the past.
Dan Herbert- was brought back as attorney on call for the Lodge. If you recall Dan was fired for allegedly double billing the Lodge and threatening a former president. Not to mention Dan is famous for showing up on shootings with alcohol on his breath.
Baum and Sigmend has been at the office everyday for over three weeks billing us $200 per hour.
And lets not forget Greg Bella. I am told that Bella is running the show. Bella is being sued by the Fop for letting a check go out of the officer for over $200,000 that was only suppose to be for $80,000. How is it possible that this guy has access to Fop computers with this suit going on. My sources told me to watch for Dean to make the Bella lawsuit go away.

I love the sour grapes on this job. If someone placed in the low to mid 300`s on the test and approx. 3,000 took the second part of the test that means that person placed in the top 10% of the test takers. I don't know any educators who would call that a low score. Maybe we need to raise educational requirement on this job so people will stop making ridiculous comments.

FOP needs to negotiate clause in contract that most senior officers have preference for low crime neighborhoods. If you put your time in, you earned a better chance of retiring alive to enjoy it.

In regards to a sergeant being a trustee, that is correct. We should all be concerned that numerous elected board members are retired also, especially the retired sergeant. But regardless if the trustee/sergeant is a good guy or is able to represent the membership, the fact still remains he is now a newly promoted sergeant. I agree with the original poster in the fact that it is a huge conflict of interest. One would have to ask themselves, "How could it not be?" He will be unable to vote on certain issues and at some point in time he will be put in a position where he will be torn between representing the membership or representing management.

SCC, maybe you or someone at FOP can explain. A recently promoted SERGEANT has decided to keep his election spot as a Trustee for the FOP. Isn't this a classic example of a conflict of interest. I don't understand how a SERGEANT, who is considered as management for the Chicago Police Department can represent the best intentions for police officers that he supervises on a daily basis. How can this SERGEANT vote on grievances or legal defense issues that are the result of a Supervisors actions? I'm very troubled about this. We might as well put Mayor Emmanuel on our pension board as a voting member. I left a message for Dean Angelo and I am waiting for a call back. If anyone else can explain this issue please advise.

A Sgt, May be a fraternal member of the FOP, but a Sgt, is not a member of the bargaining unit. A Sgt, is a member of the Sgts, union, which is a separate bargaining unit. A Sgt, retired or active, should not sit on the Board of Directors of the FOP. In fact, it's against the by-laws.

Some years ago kids broke into a school with a real looking BB rifle. Kid pointed it at the cops and was shot in the leg. Kid ran off and was later arrested at the hospital. No public out cry. WHY? Because someone was smart enough to allow access to new crews and photographers to get a simple photograph of the BB rifle on the floor.
The Trib and the Times do not employ photographers any more. Someone, I am not saying a cop, has to send them a photo of that shotgun so they have something to print. A hint to a good citizen maybe.
I don't like the media; but learn to use them and twist them to our advantage.
If they had the photo it might have changed the story lead to: "A deranged senior citizen threatens a off duty Chicago Police Officer with a shotgun and is shot dead. "

There are plenty of Sgt's who never buy into their management bullshit class at the academy and there are so PO's who are more pro Mgmt than some SGt's. The PO's should be happy with him as a Sgt and equally as happy to have him represent their best interest at FOP. If you're concerned start coming to the meetings, run for watch or Unit rep and then run for an elected spot.

Regarding a sergeant as trustee post: to the poster advising me that if I'm concerned I should do this and that: I do attend the meetings, I did run for positions, I'm on committees and I am a rep, so now what do you have to say? You're missing the whole point as I expect someone like you would. The question is not whether the individual we are speaking about is a good guy or will represent the membership. The question is should we start allowing management to hold elected FOP spots and control what our membership does while also simultaneously being management. I call it conflict of interest. But if the membership feels that supervisors should run the show whether at work or at the hall and feel an immediate supervisor should sit on the board, I guess so be it.
Really, you took the time to interview and got what you wanted, through an interview, are you for real?

Working inside allows plenty of time to study. Repetition in reading and writing. NASA can train a monkey to operated a space capsule through repetition and rewards. Thus, repetition and rewards in the dep. Chiefs office paid off too. Conclusion: career inside - trained monkeys have something in common.

When people who are not very bright "make it off the list," it's a sure sign that they've had their study materials drastically whittled down to the exact material that's going to be on the test that day. You know, the way it's done in the secret study groups. But go on, keep supporting nice people who have no business being supervisors. That attitude is one of the reasons why we have such woefully inadequate leadership on this department.
