Look - Consequences!

  • Beretta U.S.A. Corp., located in Accokeek, Maryland, announced today that it has decided to move its manufacturing capabilities from its existing location to a new production facility that it is building in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Gallatin facility is scheduled to be opened in mid-2015. Beretta U.S.A. had previously planned to use the new Gallatin, Tennessee facility for new machinery and production of new products only.

“During the legislative session in Maryland that resulted in passage of the Firearm Safety Act of 2013, the version of the statute that passed the Maryland Senate would have prohibited Beretta U.S.A. from being able to manufacture, store or even import into the State products that we sell to customers throughout the United States and around the world. While we were able in the Maryland House of Delegates to reverse some of those obstructive provisions, the possibility that such restrictions might be reinstated in the future leaves us very worried about the wisdom of maintaining a firearm manufacturing factory in the State,” stated Jeff Cooper, General Manager for Beretta U.S.A. Corp.

“While we had originally planned to use the Tennessee facility for new equipment and for production of new product lines only, we have decided that it is more prudent from the point of view of our future welfare to move the Maryland production lines in their entirety to the new Tennessee facility,” Cooper added.
At least 300 skilled machinists plus support staff and ancillary jobs. And the tax base gets eroded, too. What forward thinking by the politicians in Maryland. Illinois might be able to learn something from them.

    Illinois Corporate Tax Inversions.

First it was: Abbott Labs, Then Abbvie, Then Walgreens.

Millions if not billions of tax revenue dollars exiting the state.

The writing is on the wall and the big screw job to the entire boomer generation is about to go down imo.

With social security about busted and pension plans massively underfunded and the nations debt $17 trillion in and counting not including state, city and local debt. We all know damn well tax increases are coming.

    And guess what?

The corporation are not going to stand for it therefore are prepping to leave town.

All these tax inversions are a self fulfilling prophecy on the road to bankruptcy too and maybe social unrest.

    And In the latest move..

Another Illinois business finds Indiana an attractive draw

Citing kinder tax and regulatory codes, one Illinois businesses is packing up shop for Illinois’ eastern neighbor state.

Bryce Welty is the president of Superior Truss and Panels — a company that bills itself as “America’s largest fabricator and erector of light gauge steel trusses and wall panels” — and is moving his company to Indiana because he says the business climate is much more friendly there.

“The short answer is: taxes. Taxes and workers’ compensation rates,” Welty said. “I can make a much bigger profit and grow more quickly and steadily in Indiana than in Illinois.”

Superior Truss and Panel will leave its Markham, Illinois location and invest more than $2.5 million over the next two years in its new spot in Gary, Indiana. Its goal is to open up in the new location in 2016.

"At least 300 skilled machinists plus support staff and ancillary jobs."

Plus businesses in the area that profited from the Beretta's presence that may not move but may close.

Probably close to 500 jobs. Bet those machinist jobs are pretty good paying.

But the democrats don't care. Maybe they can get Bloomberg to cover the lost taxes.

Once they get over the hassle of moving, they may find they like Tennessee better.

Hey - this type of lunacy is already happening in Illinois.

Walgreen's is thinking about moving out to Switzerland to avoid paying $2 Billion in corporate taxes and now ABBOTT is looking at pulling up stakes.

These are important places because they create and sustain jobs.

When these places move out, not only does it kill the jobs and tax base, other support businesses that depended on contracts with them - from paper, to vending machines to everything else also get damaged - if not totally killed off.

Those that do stay - like Sears and Motorola, have hired a lot of foreign workers to replace US citizens - your neighbors - in many jobs including IT, engineering and other skilled areas.

We (Illinois) are not addressing this and everyone is talking about leaving as soon as they hit retirement (both in government jobs and those taxpayers working in the private sector)

I love the anti-Rauner commercials telling people not to vote for him.

Do you REALLY think the current "leadership" has done a good job in making Illinois better?

They haven't even maintained Illinois and it is still sinking when it comes to regional sustainability and job creation.

Vote new people in. If they don't work out in 4 years - vote more new people in, but whatever you do - don't keep these incompetent idiots in.

If you do, in the long run, you WILL lose your pensions or at least have to concede a lot of it back.

Look at Detroit - and Chicago/ Cook County are financially worse off than them.

I see no reason for Armalite, Rock River or Springfield to stay in Illinois. They employ hundreds of skilled workers, all who would consider moving with the companies they work for. They pay taxes to support the government union teachers, state and local workers. I guess this state would rather have people trapped in poverty and hungry than have the evil gun manufacturers support their community. Look how well the government protects the border...and they think that if they give up the guns, the government would protect us from evil....

    Huffington Post asks....

    What Happened to "Rahmbo" Emanuel?

"...Chicago's schools continue to fail its inner-city children. The city is still the nation's murder capital. And with Chicago's pensions spiraling out of control, it's the most likely to follow Detroit into bankruptcy.

The stakes in Chicago are high, but not just for Emanuel. Chicagoans are watching the city crumble and are suffering the consequences.

As for Rahm, if he can't save Chicago, then he can forget about running the country."

    Illinois Policy

People have been fleeing Illinois for decades in search of a friendlier environment to put down roots or grow a business.

Illinois loses one person every 10 minutes.

That’s because for every four people who leave Illinois, only three enter. The Illinois exodus is a stark reminder that policymakers should consider why people are leaving the state, and where they’re going.

Not in the least, the Maryland politicians will be patting themselves on the back and bragging about their "victory" over the evil gun business.
Remember, this is the same type of fanaticism that brought on Prohibition (of alcohol) and destroyed an entire legal industry from large distillaries to mom and pop taverns in the entire country, which at that time was one of the governments biggest sources of taxes. Economics be damned.

Now that the Prez has determined that Obamacare is no longer mandated in territories like Puerto Rico, look for more businesses to move there as well. The island has unemployment of 15% and would LOVE to see any established business show up. The tax laws are also very favorable for US businesses with manufacturing plants in PR.

    Anti-gun Illinois, beat Anti-gun Maryland -- Woo-Hoo! We're Number 1!

For one, thanks to Poatao-Head's 67% TAX INCREASE, Olin Corp moved a lot of its Winchester Ammunition production from its East Alton, IL plant to Oxford, Mississippi.

However, Olin's move out of Illinois really didn't start with that tax increase, but earlier, back in 2004. That move was solely due to the general psychotic position of *our* anti-gun politicians.

"Another Illinois business finds Indiana an attractive draw"

All it takes is a drive east on US 30 from Cicero Ave into Indiana to see what Illinois, Cook County, and various municipal governments are doing to the economy. Everything becomes visibly worse and worse approaching the Indiana border and then once across the border a little ways it's like the sun comes out. Vibrant businesses, one after another. This didn't happen by accident.

As to making stuff in Illinois... things aren't the way they used to be. Government is killing this state.
