Another $10 Million Gone
- As he prepared to speak alongside gubernatorial challenger Bruce Rauner on Thursday, Gov. Pat Quinn announced $10 million in additional spending for Chicago Public Schools’ Safe Passage program, allowing for 600 more hires of yellow-vested workers around 27 more schools later this fall.
The added millions will bring annual spending on the program to more than $26 million; the money pays community members to usher CPS children along routes leading to 133 elementary and high schools.
Quinn, under fire for his now-defunct Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, declined to comment on the timing of the extra money coming from the cash-strapped state.
Pay no attention to that money behind the curtain! No, you can't use it for the pension funds. That would deny Quinn the pleasure of purchasing votes with it.

Ten Million Dollars of OUR money is being spent to buy votes from people that would have voted for him anyway.

Hope everyone realizes that the tax increases, cuts, and layoffs will come AFTER the votes are counted.
We're broke or perhaps all the money is hidden inside a TIF-fund-like account who knows?
Nevertheless, there is no increase in the size of the Illinois work force, the only number that really matters when talking about creating jobs. So they're stuck, no we're going to get stuck with more taxes.

On Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) met with more than 50 pro-amnesty leaders in Chicago to prepare for President Barack Obama's executive amnesty that could give work permits to five million illegal immigrants.
Gutierrez said that Chicago "voices have been among the loudest calling for immigration reform" and will "be a leader when it comes to implementing administrative action."
There has never been a bigger waste of money than Safe Passage. Never.
Taxpayers apparently are stupid or just don't vote.
10,000,000/600 = 16,666
16,666/180 school days = $92/day
$92/1.156 (Fica) = $80 + tax/day

You read that about Quinn and you still are thinking he is "good for your pension", better turn yourself in to a drug recovery program real quick.

We can't get a DNA work up on less than 4 months, but we can spend millions so people can walk there kids to school. Something they should be doing just because they are a parent.

Yes, Rahm; tell us again how much money was 'saved' closing those schools, boarding them up, winterizing them, repairing vandalism, providing safe passage (signs and personal) for the displaced students...

What happens when one of those retired cops has to use their weapons? They are not the police anymore. They are civilians. No FOP representation. No indemnification by City of Chicago. No City paid or FOP paid lawyer. You get sued, you are on your own.
Who owns the liability for those concealed carry retired cops?
No way will I take a low pay part time City job and carry a weapon and I am not guaranteed legal protection from The People's Law Office or Loevy and Loevy.
