Fioretti Announcement This Weekend

  • Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) said Monday he will decide by the end of the week whether to challenge Mayor Rahm Emanuel and revised downward the amount of money he believes it would take to compete with the prolific fundraiser.

Fioretti refused to respond directly to speculation that he would declare his candidacy for mayor on Saturday. But the smile on his face gave it away.

“I’m considering it. I’m seriously considering it,” he said during a break at Monday’s meeting of the City Council Finance Committee.

Fioretti's political adviser Michael Kolenc was less cagey.

"We have a big event planned for Saturday. All we're asking is that people save the day for an important announcement," Kolenc said, promising more details by the middle of the week.
Run Bob run.

Well, that gives Rahm four days to dig something up to blackmail him with to keep him out of the race. Fishmongers can anticipate a special order from Rahm any day now.

I'm taking the chance. I'm voting no on this lousy contract.

A smart mayoral candidate would promise a better contract and then reap the windfall and support of a strong cop + family/friends (voting bloc) turnout.

Even if by next spring's election the contract has gone to arbitration, a newly elected mayor can re-negotiate the contract if he or she chooses.

Arbitration is even preferable.

The public should be reminded that the last contract we were forced to accept was dismal but we were told that the arbitrator was faced with the reality of the time and a tough economy.

The next arbitrator should use Rahm's own words all throughout the 2012 presidential election campaign season. There was Rahm on all the Sunday morning shows making the case for Obama's re-election stating over and over that the recovery was in full swing and our economy was back to pre-recession levels. The crisis was over.
A better offer is in order.

Ald. Fioretti, please look at the contract that Rahm proposed to us and tell us what you would offer differently. Remember, a lot of officers are not focused on retro check and salary increases. They are concerned about comp time usage, photo dissemination, tuition reimbursement, and the pension.

can is many of my fellow officers be this SLOW.... Lot of guys are hung up and mis informed on several issues on this new contract proposal...

The wage reopener on the pension issue is if by statute (WHICH CAN BE DONE) if your percentage of your contribution goes higher than our current 9% then we can RE-OPEN our wages to make up the difference...

The tuition reimbursement only affects graduate programs and as long as you enroll by sept 2016 you get grandfathered in, you can't figure out from here until 2016 if you plan on joining a graduate program then maybe you shouldn't be getting reimbursement as it is.

Furlo by watch is a common sense issue in many cases some officers will do better by watch.

Go to arbitration and you will be forced into wellness, currently we are ONLY union in city not in it. It has become so profitable to the city they pull in a million a month in fines, it has become a revenue source for the city.

NO increase in your health insurance contribution, really the city last proposal was to double our contributions, what did fire, sgt or Lt. Pay?????

You guys that are all bitching and demanding no votes need to wake up, this is a fair contract, your ass works in the public sector, departments are laying guys off and private sector is just as bad, so it's a fair deal not the best but that is what bargaining is all about

And for you people that are going to bitch about the FOP, hell save it you elected MAJORITY board that is RETIREES, 19 of the 26 spots are held by retirees......

From a previous post:

I will tell you.

It may sound corny, but I came here to help.

I came here to comfort the victims in an accident, to slow the driver in too much of a hurry.

I came here to make sure the ambulance could get to the victim and then to hunt down the one that made him a victim.

I came here to do the slow drive through the teens that want to take over the corner and to stand up to the ones that won't leave.

I came here to stop the ones selling poison to our kids, to stop the families from fighting and to make sure the neighbors got along. I came here to talk to kids and to be their good example.

I really did come here to serve and protect and every night I lay my head down, when I get past the worry, and sleep well. Every morning I am eager to keep doing this job. It is frustrating beyond all reason sometimes...but it is the only job I want to do.

Police officers do not vote so why should any candidate care about your benefits? Most officers are more concerned with jury duty than voting so they avoid the issue. As a result, no one cares about the CPD. Watch the voting for the contract. I bet less than 60% will vote either way.

This just proves we are all screwed and the statement above proves it. This is true for most coppers.....they are only concerned about what's in front of them. They either can't or won't plan for their future.

We should be fighting for our pensions. Problems with comp time denial come and go with the bosses. And if a higher education is that important to you, take out a loan like everybody else does. At least you will be able to deduct THAT from your taxes.

Wrong dipshit... the amount of money taken from our salary IS a calculation of our benefit. What this means to you since you don't seem to understand it or are shilling for the union lackies is that UNDER SEVERAL SCOIL RULINGS, NO CALCULATION CAN BE CHANGED THAT ARRIVES AT YOUR BENEFIT LEVEL.

Means forcing you to pay more for the same benefit IS a cut to the pension system and IS protected from illegal increases.

In short, our 9% is protected by the same clause in the constitution as is our entire benefit structure.

So NO, that IS a fuckover in the contract and that IS bringing pension issues into our contract and that IS how Emanuel intends to try and fuck any union who agrees to this language in their contract of preventing them from prevailing in a SCOIL lawsuit.

IF we agree to "reopen" the contract if the legislature violates the constitution, we just gave up the right to use a lawsuit to solve the injustice because we just agreed in a contract to reopen wages.

The city will use this language when we attempt to sue over constitutional violations to our pensions, and this type of shit has already been tried, and the employer wins every time.

DON'T agree to give away your right to sue on pension issues because you think you're gonna get money today from the city that's fucking you in your contract.

A strong cop voting bloc??? Ha ha! I bet you're one of those guys that think everyone likes the police. On a good day, voter turnout is only about 30% and that is being a bit generous. So, even if we go with 30%, the "strong cop/family voting bloc" is only about 3,000 votes and in reality it probably only translates to 2,000 votes max. I bet you think that people you know will vote a certain way because you tell them to.. Get off your high horse. Politicians would rather cater to hood reverends and the bus loads of sheep they command to vote whatever way they get told. That voting bloc wipes ours out with no problem.

Oh geez, not another *progressive*. Fioretti is farther left than Tiny Dancer and a mirror image of that socialist - communist - Bill de Blasio in NYC.

First off, Fioretti's '1% Commuter Tax' will go over like a lead balloon. So where do these moron democrats get the idea that IL and Chicago is oh-so special that instituting tax after tax after tax will have no effect on business, and as such -- Gubmint Revenue. Isn't Fioretti aware that companies and corporations have already fled IL and more are going monthly thanks to Gov Potato-Head.

As to Fioretti saying he'll hire 500 more police. Well...first off, didn't Flaming Tutu say something similar when running, but it was like 1,000 coppers, pretty sure he did. Secondly, even if he did hire 500 more, would it make a difference -- a difference for the better, that is.

By that I mean what *kind* of Police Dept would the CPD be under the thumb of a Far Left raving fucking Socialist like Fioretti supposedly is? I'd say not one that would really have the backs of you Blue Shirts -- socialists aren't exactly known for being 'Police Friendly'.

I know that right now it's 'Anybody But Rahm', but damn man, isn't there one sane person to be found in Chicago?

Initially, I was very excited about the prospect of Fioretti running. Unlike the Rahm-u-prick, Fioretti wan'ts to hire more police, and that's a good thing because we sure need it.

But I was very dismayed to read some of the campaign positions in this article.

A 1% tax on commuters. Wow, so we encourage businesses to come to Chicago then throw roadblocks in their way when they actually want to hire people? Fucking retarded. Chicago & Illinois desparately need jobs. And this whole thing would like be an enforcement nightmare.

And a sales tax on services? Which ones? Lawyers would be a perennial favorite. But accountants? Engineers? Architects? Realtors? Where does it stop? And how about medicine? Maybe the shitheads or their doctors would get whacked with taxes on bills they never pay anyways after they get shot full of holes?

Funny, haven't heard anything about REDUCING SPENDING? Why is mo' taxes always the solution?

And what about property taxes, and shifting that burden elsewhere, as Rauner suggests doing?

After all, we have $1 BIL+ sloshing around in the TIF Funds. H-E-L-L-O.

Fioretti, Emanuel, Lewis.

Like a choice between horse shit, chicken shit or bullshit.

Call the next case. Not a cop.

First off, the wage re-opener is a no go, who in their right mind is going to allow us to increase our pay if the pension goes up? The pension laws are state laws and they can't be diminshed. Secondly we are not a voting bloc, because our families and us don't vote and the politicians know that, we are weak. The contract is all we are going to get, like all the other unions have, please realize that and don't make waves. And lastly, who cares who wins all the up coming elections, we don't vote!

119 AM SAID: The wage reopener on the pension issue is if by statute (WHICH CAN BE DONE) if your percentage of your contribution goes higher than our current 9% then we can RE-OPEN our wages to make up the difference...

Yeah, consider yourself SLOW also.

It also says that if an agreement for an increase in wages because of increased pension percentages cannot be achieved within 90 days that it will go to arbitration.

You then go on to spout how you think we will get it stuck in our asses when we go to arbitration when we reject this contract. Which one is it? Is arbitration good for us or isn't it? If you think we're going to get it stuck in her ass by going to arbitration on just the contract, what makes you think it'll be any different when it's time for an arbiter to award us with wage increases in the event we have to contribute more for pensions?

Bottom line here is that the contract and pension are two totally separate entities and should remain that way. Once any language is included in our contract that allows anything to do with our pension - specifically the fact that wage increases to offset increase pension contributions rests in the hands of an arbiter - you've opened Pandora's box.

Because here is the likely scenario if this were ever to come to fruition:

State constitution is changed and it is determined that we must now pay 11% of our salary toward our pension. FLOP "reopens" the contract to ask for a 2% increase in wages to offset this. City says fuck you and stalls past 90 days. It goes to arbitration. Arbiter sides with the city (like they do 99% of the time). We get stuck paying to clean up the mess created by the politicians who never held up their end of the bargain to properly fund our pension.

This was a piss poor proposal by Dean and Company. You could have sold me on this aspect of the contract had it included the stipulation that the city must first put in what they owe to the pension fund to ensure it is funded at 90% before we are made to make up the difference.

You ain't changing my mind or those of just about everyone I've talked to. NO is the vote to this piece of shit proposed contract.

To those who think ANY politician will cater to our needs is high!
Police officers don't vote for union elections when a SASE is sent to your front door!
It'll be interesting to see what percent of officers vote in the contract.
If you really think our voting "bloc" is a force to be reckoned with, look at the percent of ballots sent back in our elections, when all you have to do is get out of the recliner & go to your mailbox.
We don't stick together, and therefore we intimidate NO ONE!

9/09/2014 05:58:00 AM

Well said. With all the stress and frustration, I still try to help people and enjoy my job.

Retired guy after 33 yoj. The midget sucks anything south of 26 street. When was the last time Rahm did anything for or appeared with white and Latino people and kids.
Harold Washington was loved by the entire city after he hit all the hoods. The Polish folks loved the guy when he ate at their resturants and mingled with all.
Rahm and Gerry show needs to end kids, support Bob. Teachers are socialists and have no use for police. Seen it in all white hoods up North.
Lewis will be like her clone, Toni Perkwinke, a true hater. These two will have a gang fest on the gold coast if they could.
You cannot go wrong with BOB for mayor.

F we agree to "reopen" the contract if the legislature violates the constitution, we just gave up the right to use a lawsuit to solve the injustice because we just agreed in a contract to reopen wages.

The city will use this language when we attempt to sue over constitutional violations to our pensions, and this type of shit has already been tried, and the employer wins every time.

DON'T agree to give away your right to sue on pension issues because you think you're gonna get money today from the city that's fucking you in your contract.

9/09/2014 08:28:00 AM

Who ever you are, that is the simplest and best explanation I've read.

Basically we are doomed. We are on the road to serfdom. I can hear the driver calling now.
"All aboard.......Next stop Detroit! Hold on to all your personal belongings it is gonna be a bumpy ride. Whatever you have placed or neatly stored in the cargo hold maybe tossed around and redistributed. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Face it people, you can ride first class or coach. But we are all gonna ride, and its gonna cost BIG either way. The voting block is on the entitlement system side, or what we used to call welfare. All the low skilled people crossing the Southern boarder are gonna crash that system too. Once that starts, future Democrats are gonna need their votes and there won't be a republic.

••• Please note the Ald. made a living suing the city with frivolous excessive force, civil rights and false arrest cases. Is his law firm "bus stop" bench seat still on Madisom & Leavitt?
There's probably more support for Karen Lewis, who besides being well outspoken and not afraid to speak her mind especially about Mayor 1%'er, if Fioretti runs Das Rahmf may not get that 51% anyhow and force a runoff.
So, I'm not voting for police suers or fake-tear jerks.

9/09/2014 01:12:00 AM

At this point, an arbitrator cannot give us what we haven't asked for. By voting no and sending it to arbitration, we will gain nothing and lose retro. Furthermore, it would probably extended by a year. So, instead of 11% over 5 years with retro, we would get no retro and 11% over 6 years.
I'm not crazy about the contract , (especially since I turn 55 in july, 2017) but voting no on it would clearly not be in our best interest.

Bob F is no friend of the Police, he sued the city more than once on alleged brutality issues. That being said, he is no Jane Byrne, but probably our only choice. The only thing we Can hope for is that he runs, Lewis runs and that Rham is kept under 50% in the first go around. If Rham is kept at 40% or less, he is a loser in a run off. In aldermanic races, if the incumbent is kept under 50% in the first round, he or she loses between 80-85% of the time. Keep in mind that in the 41st Ward, their is a great candidate running against Rhams rubber stamp Mary OConnor. It's Anthony Napolitano, former CPD, now CFD, please put out the word for Anthony. He cares about the Ward as opposed to the part time Alderman OConnor. She is a left wing liberal, who is ruining a long time Republican ward. Anthony comes from a large Police family.

No matter where you go, the beast is hanging down on the street, eatin' flamin hot cheetos and drinking orange pop. Empty bags and cans dropped right they were standing. And of course, walking in the streets always.

I was going out west last weekend to see family in Wheaton. Going out Roosevelt Road around Glen Ellyn, Lombard, I start seeing the beast, walking, in the street. The only people walking out there is the beast and of course they walk where they always walked in the city, in the goddamn street.

Of course they have one car per 15 people so most get to walk the mile or two to the sto'. No CTA out there, just much harder to catch Pace bus.

Another sign of the decline of an area, tire repair shops and the beast walking in the street.

Fuck it go drive a cab, work at Wal Mart, who gives a fuck, you and me made a lot more money then the average person, I'm retired and spent 40 yrs. on the job, we cried a little, but never like the Gel Hair police of today. Think of what you would be doing if you didn't take this job, you were not forced. Another contract will be coming in a few years. The city will never give you or anyone else a contract on time.
