Training Tomorrow's Battlefield Docs
- The U.S. Navy is using Chicago's Stoger Hospital to train and prepare doctors, medics, and nurses for battlefield conditions.
As with so many of the experiences awaiting military medical personnel once overseas, "Stoger [sic]Hospital... stands in the middle of a war zone... in its own way."
According to the AP, "the Navy doesn't have any trauma training facilities in the U.S., [so] military medical teams" have to be sent elsewhere for "experience dealing with penetrating wounds." And these teams have found that bullet wounds--"even a single bullet wound"--"[unleash] the same kind of massive infection inflicted by roadside bombs in Afghanistan."
There are plenty of bullet wounds to learn from in Chicago, where Stoger [sic] Hospital has "one of the busiest... trauma units" in the country. In 2013 alone, Stoger [sic]Hospital "treated nearly 600 gunshot victims," over 260 stab victims, "and almost 900 people injured in traffic [accidents]."
Maybe Rahm can make this into some sort of commercial for the tourists?
UPDATE: The "Stoger" Hospital is how the paper spelled it - we don't correct media spelling errors. That's the editors' jobs and if they don't care enough to do it, who are we to point out that once again, their layers of "fact checking" and background research and such aren't very accurate?

I'm a former Chicagoan who now lives in Montana. I'm thinking of visiting Chicago around christmas time. However, I'm scared shitless, due to the crime in the windy city. I need advice? Is it worth it to come back to Chicago for a few days, or should I stay the hell away and never come back again?
LOL! Here's a new motto for Chicago- "Chicago:It's literally a war zone."
Hmmm, 600 gunshot victims? How does that compare to the numbers that McCarthy puts out.
Maybe they can spell it right too...it's Stroger, not Stoger.
Hell, that's the greatest contribution to society most of these mutts will ever commit. I'm all for it. Hell, let the docs use these mutts for all their science projects.
"The U.S. Navy is using Chicago's Stroger Hospital to train and prepare doctors, medics, and nurses for battlefield conditions."
Jesus God.
What is wrong with this picture?
That bad -- while Mayor Rahm I. Emanuel works on multi-million dollar "skate ribbons" and "dog beaches" and "car-free streetscapes," strolling around an "exclusive" (that means you and me are excluded) desert club swinging bottles of fine wine with Demo/Publican lanzman and asshole buddy Bruce Rauner...
Anyone know where the Police Superintendent is tonight?
...or on the same date last summer?
Ha. 'Nother ice-cold Heineken for me, thanks...
"Woo-hoo...I'm losing you."

Yep crime is down so low the military picked chiraqastan for training.
Must be cause GreatLakes is right up the coast right?
If penetrating wounds is what you want no shortage here
Any corner any weekend
The reason the military has a shortage of trauma units is because they closed most of them in the past six years or so, for budget reasons. Actually, BAMC at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio has a trauma unit. Bexar County Hosp. is near by and it is a trauma unit that gets plenty of gunshot wounds, stabbings and serious auto accidents from all over south Texas.
If only they would have picked him up on that misdemeanor warrant he wouldn't have got shot. Wait a minute aren't there like 100 teams out there looking for those.
Hi, something in your spell check is changing Stroger to Stoger - or is there something else you mean by it?
Yes . He could use a slogan like:
Bring us your weary, your shot, your stabbed....
I think this would be a very appropriate place to remember this quote from Obama's boy...
"You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."
Rahm Emanuel
Stroger should be selling t-shirts. They'd make a killing!
Ah. See what I did?
You mean St. Roger?
When I came on the job in 94 the military medics were at county learning.... Nothing new.
See, even the federal gub'ment understands that we live in Chiraq.
Nothing new. Military has been sending docs there for years. Makes sense. At least ya get a good medic out of the n*•"'r nonsense.
Yep, Y'all come to Chicago from dull, boring Montana. If you want other Xmas time destinations, how about Kandahar, Mogadishu, or Syria?
Better to stay "Where the deer and the antelope roam" than see what Chicago has roaming its streets at night.
That's the way old John spelled his name after his stroke. You should see how he spelled "John".
Better than STROKER!
I still like St. Roger the best.

Stay in Montana, Shitcago has nothing to offer except violence and high prices. If you need a fix of the big city pull up some crap on you tube about Chicago and you can see all the mutt's running around acting like savages. That should cure your itch for the city.
Is it worth it to come back to Chicago for a few days, or should I stay the hell away and never come back again?
No. Go visit Austin, TX and have a great time.
I thought it was St. Roger Hospital run by the Alexian Brothers Cleotis and Montague Alexian that stay by Pulaski and Madison.
Damn, I always thought it was a Catholic Hospital!
All these years I called it...
St Roger's

You're not excluded. Make something of yourself and you could live like Rauner, too. Oh, right, you'd rather sit on your lazy-ass, dumpy butt, slurping warm beer and making up stupid words. Go get 'em, tiger!
They ought to send people of whatever agencies need training in lies, theft, corruption, intimidation and brainwashing to be trained here.
Oh never mind. Chicagoans most experienced at that are now in Washington D.C.
The army used to send it's surgeons to New Orleans for the same reason. Look at that, we've replaced New Orleans as the city that care forgot.
So this blows holes (pun intended) in the theory that crime is down then right? lol
See there is a silver lining in all the violent crime. The United States Navy sees Chicago as their best training ground for their medical people.Chicago you are doing something right!
It's St Roger.
Come on back Montana get a ccw if your scared winter is slow don't worry. This is a good move by the navy but it says something about our leadership we need more police stop the bullshit garry and rham just do it hire good people and take back that moronic 5 points more for public schools that a real asshole move and discriminatory can't believe what shit heads you are.
Above level one trauma center, right here in Chicago.
Alert......Mt Greenwood school is busing medically unscreened illegal children into the school and there is currently an EV D68 (enterovirus 68)outbreak starting. There multiple children from that school have been already hospitalized. One student has suffered the paralysis symptoms already. Rahm has ordered the principals of these schools to hold back and deny this info from the parents since he brought those kids there and he wants to win the election. If you watch the kids leaving the school you can see for yourselves the bused in illegals. Same scenario is playing out at CPS all over the city and other major cities that brought welcomed the medically uncleared kids to their communities.
This is nothing new. The military always use urban hospitals for training. At least since the Vietnam War ended.
--- AP didn't make the Error, their spelling is correct. Brietbart goofed.---
All of these shooting victims medical bills are paid by YOU the sucker taxpayer !
Estimated at $250k per shooting paid by YOU !
It's St. Roger hospital get it right famo. LOL
This isn't anything new. My mother's brother trained at County, Bellevue in NYC and Central Recieving in LA when he was drafted (as a doctor) into the Navy in the late 60s during Vietnam. He still talks of it being the best medical training he ever had outside of med school. Just like working in a fast district teaches you quickly on our job.
When it opened, the new Cook County Hospital was derisively called St Roger Hospital by ER staff, EMS workers and CFD paramedics. Stroger had the gall and arrogance to name the place after himself instead of some heroic doctor or nurse who really did something for people besides steal from them.
When John Stroger stroked out he went down the street to Rush for treatment and not to the hospital that carried his name.

Navy Corpsmen would be the medical personnel that take care of US Marines in combat. They are angels of mercy and put themselves in harm's way to save the lives of our wounded Marines. God bless them all. Anything to help them out is good for the Marines.
So the shitheads here shooting each other are providing a public service after all. Seems only fair that something good should come from their useless miserable lives.

Come on back, enjoy yourself, see the sights. Stay in a nice hotel, try out the good restaurants. Stay out of shit neighborhoods. If you have a concealed carry permit, bring a concealable pistol but don't try to get on a commercial flight with it.
Wow - Chicago has now earned a distinction that is similar to that of Newark, NJ. The Peace Corps trains volunteers going to third-world hell holes in Newark. Great job, Rahm.
To these new Captains, Lieutenants don't let these animals fool you. their not soldiers. have no loyalty, honor or anything that would make them a decent civilian. patch em up and move on to the next one. Use your trade and bring our friends and family home with as much mobility and dignity as possible.
The military medical community has been sending personnel to urban hospital emergency rooms for decades.
Baltimore is another big destination. Gotta go where the gunshot wounds are.
It's Cook County Hospital not Stroger. It's not Daley center it's Chicago Civic Center. I'm tired of taxpayer funded projects named after slime bag politicians. All municipalities should sell there naming rights to the highest bidder. Cook County could be called "Tips and Wings, we do it right"
In the in mortal words of guns and roses "welcome to the jungle"
I guess Chiraq is good for something.
HACKERS ON THE LOOSE
Brothers Attacked by Group With Machete at Kedzie Brown Line Stop: Police
The Jefferson Park man and his brother, 17, were sitting on a bench waiting for the train when a group of four men and three teens walked up and tried to pick a fight, prosecutors said at a court hearing Tuesday.
One of them demanded to know what gang the younger brother was a member of, prosecutors said. He denied being in a gang, and another man in the group threw a beer he was drinking to the ground and put a machete up to the teen's neck, officials said.
A third member of the group snatched the teen's hat, and the group surrounded the teen to block his escape, prosecutors said. At that point, the teen's older brother intervened, yelling at the group.
Mario Elvira, 18, who allegedly had the machete, then turned the blade on the brother, prosecutors said. He swung the machete over and over again as the brother tried to protect his head.
The brother was rushed to the hospital with a gaping head wound that required 31 stitches, prosecutors said.
The attack was captured on CTA security video.

Navy Corpsman were trained at Naval Station Great Lakes, just north of Chicago, until July 2011. They are now trained at Ft Sam Houston. You can Thank Illinois Senator Dick Durbin(D) and Illinois Senator Mark Kirk (RINO) for the closure of Navy Corp School at Naval Station Great Lakes.
The US Navy Corpsman is the oldest and most decorated rating in the US Navy. They proudly serve our nation, attend to all Sailors and Marines and are highly respected throughout the US military for their expertise and skillsets.

Chicago is home for me! Avoid the West and most of the South side, Uptown and Humboldt Park area. Be careful on any CTA El line, avoid desolate areas, avoid large groups of "Urban Youths", carry your piece, don't display USC, don't wear expensive jewelry or flashy items, avoid the useage of your IPhone, Droid on the street in areas where there are "Urban Youths" and be aware of your surroundings!
You will be okay, Chicago is rapidly going downhill but is still a great city with a lot to offer.
Politics, corruption, political correctness, liberalism and a general lack of police presence (due to attrition and fiscal mismanagement) has caused an almost irreversible downward spiral of lawlessness in some otherwise secure, lawful and beautiful areas.
Visit, enjoy, meet some police officers (coppers) and heed their advice and guidance.
You will have a good time but don't MAKE yourself a victim!
Chicago is just a fertile training ground for trauma training!
Hot damn... Navy's in town, grab the hookers and whiskey!!!! Tattoos for everyone. How do you tie a half-hitch?
The military has been doing this for decades.

Not that I care about the closing of the Navy Corp School but why is that a Durbin and Kirk thing? All medical training is at Ft. Sam so it's not like only the Navy was affected. You act like it was an Illinois thing, which is was not. Anyway, I did clinicals at BAMC and I've worked at the hospital on Great Lakes...and it was a porta potty compared to BAMC. In fact Great Lakes kinda bites overall.
I forgot, until reading all these comments, the medics in my old unit often drilled at county on Saturdays (if I remember correctly). Funny how that quick a newspaper article was fresh in my mind while I forgot about personal experience on the same topic.
Thanks Garry at least were first in something.
Best story ever.
Well done Mr. President finely the help we deserve. Pow pow pow and save em.
Come to Chicago, see the beautiful lakefront, if the wildings will let you. All the wonderful shopping you could want, if you can avoid the robberies. AND some of the best medical assault training you'll find nowhere else in the country!!!! Sweet Home, Chicago!

Yeah, well even the increase of 40 P.O.'s in Fugitive, with the assistance of State Police, ATF, and County Sheriff's, the head douche bag doesn't know what he's doing.
How about we take the Navy Medics along with us on the streets. That way when one of the bad guys get shot, we can yell, "Medic, corpsman, over here!" Then move on to the next piece of $&!^ shot.
