Ofc Schultz Returns Home
- Police vehicles from more than a dozen law enforcement agencies clogged the streets outside of the Cook County Medical Examiner's office Wednesday, flashing red and blue lights in tribute to the fallen Indiana officer whose remains they would escort for burial more than 50 miles away.
Nickolaus Schultz, 24, served with the Merrillville police department for a little more than a year before he was shot Friday night by a man who later committed suicide. Schultz, an organ donor, was pronounced dead nearly two days later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Outside of the medical examiner’s office on the near West Side, somber looking police officers said they made it their mission to support Schultz’s family who had made the trek from their Lowell, Ind. home.
Godspeed and God bless Officer.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
God bless the member of LE that were there. You young CPD guys made my old ass proud of you all.
Heartfelt things like this is what make us all brothers of Blue Blood.
Organ donor and hero to the end, now there is a shining example you can tell your kids about. My families thoughts, prayers and well wishes for his loved ones.
Nice tribute.
God Bless
I was getting on at i55 and traffic on the ramp came to a total stand still for about 20 min. Saw all the squad cars and remembered about Ofc Schultz. This was one time I didn't mind sitting in traffic, in fact it was an honor! Seeing this tribute brought tears to my eyes. Said a prayer for him and his family. God bless him and his family!
God be with you deputy and your family.
RIP Officer, stand out copper, football player, this guy was assassinated, watch out for each other! We are all brothers in blue and we stand as 1!!!
These are the real heroes in this world. Why we cant all see that is beyond me. God Bless you sir.
Great tribute to one of our fallen. I still can't get over how young he was. So much life ahead. This is a reminder to ALL of us to "stop and smell the roses." Hug and kiss your wife and children. Tell family members and friends what they mean to you. Spend QUALITY time with loved ones. And above all don't let this job consume you to the point where it takes over your life. Live and ENJOY the life you have. We only have a short time on this earth. Make the MOST of it. Being the police, we see too much of the bad side of humanity. We need to remind ourselves that there is a beautiful side of life too. And compared to many of the people we encounter day to day, we are blessed. Sorry for the rant SCC.
Another part of me died.
