Those Damn Coppers

We're already the bad guys again - and the contract hasn't even been approved by the Board of Directors to go out for a vote:
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel may borrow more money to come up with the $65 million or so the city will need to cover police back pay if a newly proposed contract is approved, the city’s top budget official said Tuesday.

Budget Director Alexandra Holt did not say how much the city will need to borrow, but indicated it would be a short-term loan paid back by mid-2017, when the new police contract would expire.
That'll be some interesting accounting. But damn those coppers making Rahm borrow money again. If only there was a spare $65 million lying around - like that money DePaul got to pay for a third of that new stadium for a team that hasn't made the NCAA tourney in years. Or that "Maggie Daley Park" that's a cover for an underground parking structure that can't stop leaking or collapsing.

Has anyone noticed how city services have dramatically improved as the election draws closer? Could the Democrats be nervous?

Naaah. this contract thru some final last hour heroics led be Rahm will be settled just before the polls open.

Then, after the ballots are counted and the supreme court checks in those greedy coppers will want the city to keep its promises and the contract that was a done deal will be torn up. And it's all those greedy coppers fault. Rahm had it fixed and they ruined everything...

"Or that Maggie Daley Park..."

$55 million for another park we don't need. WHY?

Here an idea, instead of one park we don't need split up that money three or four ways and get matching grants from three or four major hospitals. Then at each hospital build a spa like beast cancer detection clinic and name them after Maggie Daley. Each one can have a mini-park because there as places where serious contemplation and family discussions can take place.

That's what to do with that money.

O.T. - I heard Mark Donahoe applied to get unemployment from FOP, because he got dismissed as the FOP lobbyist. When does it end Mark? $150,000 a year was not enough under Shields? $180,000 was not enough when you (Donahoe) were FOP President. Mark you no longer run the FOP! All the inside guys were getting Capts. pay selling their BFDs, and Pers. days at Capts. rate under Donahoe plus getting Supv. quarterly. They were selling vacation days at the same rate, stating they never took a furlough. Mark you were the leader during this! Its official B.D. just as you put about your FOP candidacy on your website. Mark Good luck on getting unemployment, considering you get a pension, and get a $7,200 yearly stipend from FOP. Solve it-Resign!

Channel 7 had video.

Arrests were made and mugshots posted and one of the offenders had a tattoo encircling his neck.

Carrying machetes they were probably a bunch of roving landscapers.

We will need ISIS doing beheadings in Horner Park before Rahm hires some police.

The press never mentions the slush fund in the Tiff accounts. These accounts fill up every year. All these funds can be spent at the discretion of the administration.

18 months of TIFF would settle the outstanding pension liabilities. An additional year would settle all of the other bills and suits the pols have let build up.

After that they can go back to build bike paths to nowhere, and taking care of the Walsh, Daley, Guiterrez, Burke , Mell ,etc families...

And all you clowns want to vote yes to the scraps that Rahm told Dean and the boys over at FLOP to dangle over our heads.

You cry about manpower.

You bitch about not being able to get time due.

You moan that everyone else has gotten better raises and contracts than us.

You can't believe that you're gonna get shitty furlos because we're going to pick by watch again.

But then what do you do?

You roll over every time and allow the city to go balls deep in your butt.

"Crime rates are at an all-time low! Our guys and girls are learning to do more with less! We've eliminated waste and reapplied our resources to where they've achieved the most results! " .....

THEN PAY US WHAT WE ARE WORTH.

FUND OUR PENSION TO THE LEVELS AS MANDATED BY LAW.

QUIT INSULTING US CONTRACT AFTER CONTRACT.

Everyone talks a big game yet no one ever seems to conjure up the balls to do anything about it. I wish I had a nickel for every time someone got screwed over at work and refused to file a grievance because they were afraid of the backlash.

Don't believe the hype on how it's going to be horrible voting down this contract and going to arbitration. Don't be fooled by the pretend Olive branch that Tiny Dancer has extended regarding the retro pay for the first year. There is more than enough money to pay retroactive pay for everything including special employment and overtime, it's just that he doesn't want to do it because he hates everything about us. That is why he had his people release this story about having to borrow money to pay us - to make us look like the jagoffs.

NOT A SINGLE CONCESSION ON OUR PART UNTIL OUR PENSIONS ARE ONCE AND FOR ALL NEVER BROUGHT UP AS PART OF COLLECTIVE-BARGAINING UNLESS IT'S TO MANDATE THAT THE FUNDING LEVEL IS WHERE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE.

As it's been said thousand times before, hundreds of millions of dollars magically appear to line the pockets of his cronies and those connected families in this cesspool of a city when it comes time for pet projects or to appease certain groups of people in exchange for votes to keep the Democratic Party in power. Yet the police, fire and teachers have to be the ones to take the hit under the guise of the city being tapped out. Fuck that noise, quit continually falling for this repeated line of outright bullshit lies.

Prediction: as word heats up that the majority of police are going to reject this insult of a contract proposal, The top stories on every news channel will be anti-CPD. The commander with the gun in the suspects mouth, the guy in 010 caught on video blasting dude in the face, etc., etc.

Time for you scared ass Gen-Yers and Millenials to man up and tell the city to go pound sand. Look past that stupid retro pay which is nothing more than a distraction purposely put into play by the city to keep you from noticing the bigger much more important issues at stake.

You do realize that you're comparing a specific neighborhood to an entire (very large) district, correct? I don't think that anyone is proclaiming that every portion of the 016th district is the promised land, and yes, portions of 016 aren't as nice as they once were, but I've been to your neck of the woods, and my preference is to live up north. Maybe you don't realize it because you live down south, but do you realize how far 5200 W. Waveland is from 7400 N. Oconto? Yes, you're absolutely correct that they're both in the 016th district, but those neighborhoods might as well be worlds apart.

Not much gangbanging, last murder was alledgedly from a guy inviting an escort to his home and she brought a few friends
016 huge district and is probably has the lowest number of murders.

9/10/2014 12:53:00 AM

I'll tell you 'why'. The 'park' has nothing to do with Maggie Daley and it is NOT a park we don't need. The park is a rebuild of the Grant Park Garage ROOF, which happens to be a grassy area known as a park.
The garage structure, thrown together hastily for the Millennium Park opening, FAILED. It was leaking and caving in. It HAD to be rebuilt, no matter what it was named afterwards.
The only thing that didn't need to be done was to name it after a corrupt mayor's wife, but the 'park' was going to be rebuilt, with or without the naming ceremony.

Rahm has what 2 BILLION in tif funds hidden? Why is this not illegal? Why are the feds bothering with police nonsense and not going after the king of crime the Daley crime cabal, and the rahm crime empire? Depaul,river-walk,midway-O'Hare billions more spent, safe passage bullshit why not make the kids be crossing guards and stop paying the free loaders parents for sending kids to school especially when the kids turn out to be welfare leeches just like the criminal parents?

As far as contract voting 100% for it,many of the educated young coppers obviously feel like they are being deprived, don't worry boys and girls when you get seniority you will get what senior officers are rightfully entitled to. Many have no idea how arbitration works, quick lesson arbitrator will never arbitrate any agreed on issues by the fop and he city, so if you think you want to reject it and start over it starts over from day 1. if you also think you will "Get more" you need to "get real" not be "real dumb" you will not get better we as a union will lose "big time bro"!

In the 17th district there are two major city jobs going on. One is Irving park and California to montrose and California. I can't even imagine how much this one costs. There building a 4 block bike path on the river. That is there taking 15 feet from the river to build this bike path. Everyone in the city is going to come here to ride 4 blocks!! The second is saganaush bike path where there converting a mile of old rail road tracks into a state of the art bike path. Building it up, removing old train tracks, pavement, all new lighting to be run, etc. With both of these projects going on in only 1/25 of the city how can they be broke??? Why would you do projects like this if you don't have money? Lied lies and more lies from this mayor. We must live in richest city in the world to do projects like this!!

I think its ridiculous the slanted opinion that Dean presented in his videos on FOP's website. Any common observer, can tell he thinks this contract is the best since sliced bread and its all because of his team and working with the city. Baloney. He keeps repeating his scare tactics about 1 year loss of Retro, and I feel like if we voted NO against this contract, he would feel offended and upset. Well, Damn, I don't care. I've had 2 IOD incidents messing up my leg and arm, not to mention wearing this equipment causing hip and back problems for every officers lifetime, and we get spit, fought with, disrespected, and shot, and sometimes killed. Sorry Dean, Sorry Mayor, Your lousy 2% or 1% don't do it for me. This Contract may not be the worst, but it is far, far, far away from what we deserve. For God sake, we wear a bullet resistant vest and get shit on by these citizens, media 24 hours a day and many white shirt bosses, while we protect the innocent and while just performing law enforcement duties doing damnedest to protect this city and we are supposed to be grateful that we get a lousy 1 or 2 percent raise, with a 1 year retro being flaunted in our faces if we don't hop on your train. Sorry Dean, I realize you think you worked out a Golden Deal, but its not. I will take my chances with an Arbitrator, and if I get screwed then, At least I'll know my own Union and Mayor didn't do it with a smile on their face. Have we forgotten last arbitrator said we could go into this next contract requesting higher wages due to be screwed last time? Its a gamble, but Im willing to take it. For the Bullshit that we deal with everyday, with fights, resisters, Thugs who just want us dead, CR's, lawsuits, plain hatred from the public, and severe body pain we deal with for 20-30 years with equipment and effecting arrests injuries, 1 or 2 percent increase is a GREAT INSULT. I write over $200,000 in parking tickets alone annually, if that doesn't deserve a 4% or 5% per year raise, then F-U Rahm and Dean. I don't care what anyone else does, but for me. NO ON CONTRACT. By the way, this is from a working beat cop, I could care less about the empty holsters in CAPS offices and other useless people who play computer games, grab ass, glorified paper pushers that any civilian could do for half of the salary. You guys probably will vote yes, because you have no idea of the BS that occurs working a beat car day in and day out from job to job to job, year after year. Does it make me bitter, perhaps, but Yes, Us workers who make up the majority of the job DESERVE A HELL LOT MORE than a pathetic 1% when this CITY is SUCKING in their photo enforcement red lights, parking tickets, highest gas prices in Nation, taxes, etc etc etc. The CITY has the $$$$, don't fall for the "We Are Broke!" ITS NOT TRUE. Demand more. Don't let Dean Or the CITY make us believe that we are not worth it, we are. We are what makes this city somewhat presentable. Take us outta the picture, this city would be a f---cking Horror movie, more than it is already.

First, I did receive an email from the attorneys representing us in this, saying that they well be seeking an injunction to prevent the increase. They will probably prevail.
Second, I currently pay 181 a month, with spouse, and I guess that would go up to somewhere around 300 a month with the increase. Well perhaps you should investigate private Medicare supplements. They are considerably higher, without a decent prescription plan. Our supplement is still a bargain.

He has the money to pay us,FOP is now having town hall meetings 1 on the north-side is this Tuesday on fop website to discuss this contract! Many coppers I have spoken to are voting yes, the radicals who stir up the pot are saying vote no! If it goes to arbitration expect another 2-3 years as the contract will start from scratch, nothing in the contract is arbitrarily wrong. If the city and the union agree, arbitrator will not move any individual items, the entire contract will be scrapped!

Another thing about young coppers worried about 55 and out, every contract changes,no maybe the 55 and out will not be here in 20 years, no one knows, but the city as a matter of fact no employer has to give retirees any insurance, be careful what you wish for you just might get it!

If your 55 and mulling over retirement with free medical you have to be completely insane to gamble the future, take it like over 50 so far have for Oct 2014. Time to go, thanks Dean for all you have done to help with this contract, but you will see the good deeds will not go unpunished as they say!

That doesn't mean the numbers are accurate. A friend needed a letter from the Dept saying he was retired (for a new employer). He contacted personnel and was told he was NOT retired and couldn't have the letter. He was counted as active until he provided a copy of his PAR, showing that he HAD RETIRED 13 MONTHS AGO.
Sorry, but those numbers are just more smoke and mirrors to fool the citizens.

Was his name on CLEAR after he retired. Don't think so and has he been paying into the pension after he retired. Thats how they calculate the number of active po's. Some other guy said they count detailed po's twice. If that was the case we would show 15,000.
At best maybe personnel made a mistake, but the bottom line there are a little over 12,000 sworn members.

9/10/2014 10:02:00 AM are you that stupid-- the department counts officers detailed twice. Where have have you been.

Detailed officers are not on CLEAR twice They are on CLEAR once showing both where they are assigned and where they are detailed, and detailed officers dont pay into the pension twice. Pension board counts the number of active sworn members paying into the pension.
As far as being stupid I suggest you walk into the bathroom and peer into the mirror if you want to view stupid.

Borrow my ass. That lil squandering prick made how many millions in interest off of our money? Not to mention that we are budgeted for 13500 police officers. What are we about 8800??? Where is all that extra money?

9/11/2014 05:05:00 AM

Wake up its, 2014 and the CPD is not budgeted for 13,500 A year or so ago Rahm took like 1200 to 1300 out of the budget
Once again, the pension newsletter states as of July 15,2014 there are 12,015 sworn officers paying into the pension. CLEAR also shows over 12,000. I know everyone is lying

9/10/2014 10:55:00 AM

That may be true but the initial post is on the right track. Why spend 55 million more on a park which ran how many hundreds of millions over budget? They've already spent enough on this "park" other things and contracts need money.

"Have we forgotten last arbitrator said we could go into this next contract requesting higher wages due to be screwed last time"

I totally remember that.

Also, Correct Me if I'm wrong my understanding is that the contract is good for three years. Last contract they made five years and this contract they are also making it five years. Next time the city should settle the contract quicker. Otherwise, give us something "extra" for extending it an additional 2 years.

Duty availability increase $100 last six months of the contract? REALLY? Make it sooner. Contract should have been settle a long time ago.

NEW POs losing their duty availability. Why would you say yes to this. Stop comparing to the fire department. We are on duty 24/7. Shit happens at a mall or anywhere else, what's a fire fighter going to pull out? A fire extinguisher?

Furlough by watch, we should put this to a separate vote some how where FOP gets feedback from their members. This alone can be a deal breaker for most.

Rham should borrow the money from his brother. If he can afford $500,000 per year for Lakers season tickets I'm sure he'd chip in to help his bro out.

Maybe Rahm and his bother BOTH belong to that same rare Napa Valley wine club the Jim Rauner belongs to.

Hey, there's some of my grandfather's (RIP) homemade vino left in the cellar. That's a rare vintage; but maybe I'll just bring a few bottles of "Three- Buck-Chuck" to a Fioretti rally.

Pension newsletter from a week ago states 12,015 sworn officers paid into the pension as of 15 July 2014. Plus CLEAR shows over 12,000 sworn officers.

I smell a RAT...

Something is being fudged about these manpower numbers, could we possible be double counting some personnel, or could there even be GHOST PAYROLLERS.

So much for all the news stories that Rahm was trying to make up with the police unions before the election. . . .

9/11/2014 07:01:00 AM

I bet some cops will even pose with Rahm for political TV commercials....TRAITORS!

Let McCarthy do it!

He can wear a dog collar and chain and Rahm can hold the leash.

My City of Chicago retiree health plan for 2015 will be 64% higher. That's right, Citizen's of Chicago!
You know, the health care plan that is so often spouted about in the media by cocksucker Rahm who touts that we "receive it for free". The same healthcare insurance from the City that has never been free to me.
And our great prescription plan, The one that forces us to pay ridiculously higher rate amounts for maintenance drugs. Stuff that costs a couple of bucks for the 1st two fills at the pharmacy and you are then forced to pay $65.00 for a 3 month mail order supply.
But if it's a non-formulary maintenace drug, they drop the mail order by force rule and let you contiue to buy it over the counter. I pay $65.00 for a 30 day supply instead of $65.00 for a three month mail order supply. You get srewed by CVS/CAREMARK in either case. My Walgreens is 3 miles away and I can't fill stuff there without being penalized and am forced to go to the CVS 10 miles away. FUCK YOU, RAHM!!!

Not one mention in deangelow videos about manpower two man cars , or ending the merit promotions .
Majority of co and exempt ranks were merit sergeant and or lieutenant , total bull crisp , it's taking away promotions from officers that passed the exams .
It sounds worse than the shield union .
End the duty availability for the second watch , put it to a vote , double ds like someone is taking orders from rahmmie .

I write over $200,000 in parking tickets alone annually

Sorry Brother, but anyone who is still writing that many tickets and boning the citizens who are already being jacked around enough by this mayor has a screw loose. It's one thing to handle your jobs and help clean up the streets but contributing to Rahms budget by hammering hard working citizens with tickets?, how do you sleep with yourself. You just finished explaining why you shouldn't be doing that, because the city is not compensating you based on how much income you generate. Get with the program, what your doing is being a parking enforcement officer, not a police officer.

WTF, whoever wrote this read it again. This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen on the blog. I have known many Firefighters who have save lives off duty by kicking down doors and using their bare hands.

Beverly is halfway gone? Where are you from Cinderella? It has changed but what place hasn't? And it ain't halfway gone. Beverly was actually the safest place I've seen to be in a group of stoned or drunken juveniles out past curfew because if you were from the right side of Beverly/ had the right surname or attended Marist, Rice/ McAuley, DLS or Carmel you weren't getting into any trouble. Just a ride home.

9/10/2014 08:05:00 PM
...or robbed at gun point. I lived in Beverly and have seen its decline.

9/11/2014 09:10:00 AM

I lived there too. The place is 5-10 minutes from a lot of places with high activity. What else could you expect when you're so close? That is not the same as falling apart from the inside. As 11:02am stated IT'S STILL CHICAGO! I'm armed and waiting wherever I am...Beverly, Naperville, Austin, or Riverdale. I don't expect to see any place on this earth where I can come off alert until I die.

Vote no and lose the first 4% of the contract which may or may not be put on at the end of the contract.

Get put into the City's wellness program.

And the medical will change to the LLC.

And pay 2% retiree health care sooner.

Those are all lost and the arbitrator will only rule on 4 or five issues. The whole contract is NOT reopened.

After the Sgt.'s voted down their contract the arbitrator ruled against them. If you think another arbitrator will rule for us then you still believe in the tooth fairy!
