Englewood Gun Battle
On going.
Officer shot and headed to Stroger.
Subject(s) trapped in a building nearby, SWAT en route.
Updates as able.
UPDATE: 700X grazed in the head and shot in the vest. Listed as critical, but that looks like a precaution due to age and location of wounds. Numerous media outlets say the Department spokespeople are saying "not life threatening," so we'll see.
UPDATE: Homicide suspect from Indiana?
UPDATE: Suspect identified as wanted in a triple shooting in Indianapolis this past weekend. It's a barricade situation at last report.

listening to radio now. Whoever is the commander of 14 is a turd. Getting on the radio to open the doors to the firehouse? your taking up the air numb nuts. knock on the door and save the air to keep it open. Your a boss and you just have to be heard. retard
My prayers to the Officers and family.
Trib says high-ranking officer was shot, was this part of the hug-a-thug marathon?
Captain Shot in head but not life threatening.....
Our prayers are with the officer, their family and all of their brothers and sisters. Please be safe and get the shooter with whatever force is necessary.
Cowards. Every single last one of them.
I hear the Captain is at Stroger. Gunshot to the head. Please keep us posted.
Prayers for the injured Officer's recovery. God bless! Godspeed!
Englewood is a war zone that should be handled as one. If these animals feel the need to shoot at these officers then they should suffer the consequences. I only pray that the innocent people that still live there do not have to suffer needlessly and should protect themselves at all costs. Anyone that sees anything suspicious should not keep their mouths closed and stick up for themselves & any neighbors that may be worthy. The police are being targeted and a stronger force is needed from those in command to stop this from happening. I don't care if you lock up every gangbanger in this city just do something instead of spinning the truth about these senseless killings and shootings.
Englewood will never change. Just like many of the Arab countries. Time to plunger the toilet.
The Dispatcher is AWESOME!!!!
Thoughts and prayers to the boss, and G _d bless my fellow brothers in sisters in blue.
Head graze, lodged in shoulder.
Sending good thoughts, Captain.
Civilian here: stay safe 5-0
Praying for the capt.
St.Jude , St. Michael pray for us.
Kudos to the female dispatcher on Zone 6! In my over thirty years on this job, I have never heard a finer job of dispatching. She remained calm and cool and never lost control of the air. In spite of the chaos that I'm sure existed at the scene, that dispatcher quarterbacked the event like a true professional. I hope she gets the recognition that she truly deserves.
"Homicide suspect from Indiana?"
Ofc. from Gary PD apparently present on-scene -- as are U.S. Marshals.
Time for the gloves to come off. WGN, ABC, NBC and CBS lead story was the Hammond Police traffic stop. WTF......we have a Chicago Police Captain shot in the head and these assholes lead news story is some racial traffic stop bullshit!! This is an outrage.
Prays are with you and all others out there! get well soon.
The mutt was wanted for a triple shooting in Indianapolis from last week
Prayers for the Captain, their family and all the officers on scene.
As a civilian, I am blown away with how brave all of you officers are here and every single day.
God bless every single one of you for protecting us.
SCC, thanks for getting this post up so quickly.
will eric holder send the fbi to investigate the civil rights violations of the offender to the police officer?
My prayers to all involved.
Leo gets to earn that Deputy Chief pay tonight!
Prayers for all officers involved and their families.
Take the perp down with extreme prejudice guys, above all stay as safe as you can.
I am a civilian but support the "blue" and only have good wishes for the "10-1" officer.
Thanks for all that you all do each and everyday.
ABC 7 has his condition upgraded to "stable".
That's good. I wish him the best and hope he recovers quickly.
Why did every commander in the city have to get on the air and notify dispatch everytime they adjusted their crotch. Rest up Captain. Get better soon!
All I can do is pray.
Best wishes to the officer for a speedy recovery.
Great job by Amy the dispatcher!
may god bless and protect the Officer and his or her family. All of you stay safe out there, and remember never to leave home without hugging those dear to you
The dispatcher has been absolutely outstanding this evening. Took
Control and remained calm. Great job. Thank you.
my prayers are with you CAPT K
TO bo n eric holder a big f-ckyou
Second HELL incident for this Captain...he was involved in a car accident in 11 years ago and almost died. PLease recover fully and get the fuck off this job Captain...enjoy your life !!!!!
This prick shot a P.O., why is this a barricade situation? Let's go Swat, breech the fucking door and go get his ass, isn't that what you guys train for?
Thoughts and prayers for the injured brother in blue, Englewood and surrounding area is out of control with no hope in site, remember when sending in your ballot if you believe the offer was a good and fair one, this could happen to anyone of us
Commander of 14 is on furlough. Are you sure it was him?
Time to take out the garbage
Listened to this unfold on the radio. (It's still ongoing I believe) The dispatcher did an outstanding job. Calm, cool and organized. Same to the bosses and P/Os that came on. Terrifying situation, and everyone still managed to keep their cool. Prayers for a full recovery for the captain.
I'm glad the captain is going to be ok. Your dispatcher is awesome and needs a big raise and a commendation, but mostly a raise.
This Guy Wanted From Indiana Suspect in Shooting

Over an hour for swat to get on scene. Ridiculous.
Prayers for the officer and his family. God speed.
Captain, you'll be singing "rockin robin" on the softball field in no time next spring. Speedy recovery to the 16 inch softball legend
Blow this shithead out of unlaced timberlands. Godspeed Captain. Civilian here.
4200 goof 1400 good car 13 stupid idiot stay off the radio if you don't know what you are talking about
Please everyone update your status's to Facebook (sacram)
Praying the officer is okay,
will be okay, shoot the savage
This guy is wanted for murder. He had nothing to lose shooting the police. Unfortunatley the cook county criminals are figuring out that the crook county judges slap them on the wrist most of the time, so they are willing to be more violent and take more chances.
Oh yea! Have the protests begun over this killer shooting the police. Is Jessie Jerkoff and father faker maching to stop the violence against the police? chirp...chirp...chirp.
Zone dispatcher is awesome! The good ones never get any praise for keeping us on-track, informed and safe- so THANK YOU! CPD-Retired and grateful.
Hoping for the best, current reports sound good.

Get off your soapbox. This has nothing to do with what you are talking about. It was the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force assisted by CPD serving a warrant on a guy from Indianapolis who was wanted for shooting three people there.
McCarthy was just on the news, live, said the capt is going to be ok, building was evacuated of civilians, they believe there are two offenders still inside.
McCarthy stated on TV that the captain has non life threatening wounds. Further stated the bullet grazed his head, shattered and a fragment entered his shoulder. Thats great news.
Old bosses from 010 who haven't worked in 010 for years showed up at Stroger since he was related to 010 lockup keeper. Everyone except 1000. Thanks "boss".
You got to hand it to Kulbida, right in the middle of the shit with his men.
Seeing pictures of officers huddled behind cars with nothing but pistols is beyond offensive. European cops roll around with submachine guns like it's nothing but a thing. Why aren't we arming officers in certain districts with automatic weapons!?
Zone 6 dispatcher talking non stop for 2 hours... great job!
God bless you Captain.
Glad to hear police not fatally shot, hope to hear fatality for the bad guy,I know it's not right to say but if he'll shoot a captain of police imagine what he would do to you or I!
Thank God the captain will be fine. But once again a piece of shit tries to assinate a police officer and SWAT is going to wait to see if offender gets cold, hungry, tired etc and surrenders. Unfucking real!!!
listening to radio now. Whoever is the commander of 14 is a turd. Getting on the radio to open the doors to the firehouse? your taking up the air numb nuts. knock on the door and save the air to keep it open. Your a boss and you just have to be heard. retard
.......... Really as you sit in your comfy chair you get to quarterback even before Monday morning. You are so cool.
Monitoring the radio was a grim reminder of just how inept our 'leaders' truly are.
First we had clueless Bosshole 300 JJ asking for name(s) of officer(s) shot over the air, stupid motherfucker that he is.
Then we had double merit 799 that couldn't figure out what classification of RD should've been attached to the job, instead telling the dispatcher that she'd have to "defer to...." for a UCR.
It never ceases to amaze me to see how far this department has sunk in terms of the supervisory ranks. The ignorance and ineptness amongst those chosen to 'lead' us blue shirts is constantly on display; today, we had two prime examples of what's wrong with the merit system to remind us.
Best wishes to XO Bubblehead, glad to hear it wasn't life threatening.
Great Job! Offender in custody, per car 13 on zone 6.
Offender in custody, cage or wagon squeezing through now, everyone hold positions for a minute...
Best wishes to Capt., was in a lot of pain in ambo.
Good deal & thanks to all, including zone op very careful to keep track of where everyone was.
Thank God it wasn't worse.
Let see what the departments next move is?
The district is a shit hole and has tons of manpower.
YET it is still a shithole.
I'll go visit him at the hospital if he has either my Fillmore Golf Outing T-Shirt or $10.
Terminate the scum who did this!!!
It can be Englewood or Maywood
But if it ain't Lincolnwood.....
......
..
.
ITS THE HOOD
The guys from 8 did a great job covering the 7th district while 7 was tied up at the scene. Thank God a sgt in 008 had the sense to get the zone switched to a citywide
Leo gets to earn that Deputy Chief pay tonight!
10/07/2014 09:01:00 PM
Leo was in AZ.
Thank God the captain will be fine. But once again a piece of shit tries to assinate a police officer and SWAT is going to wait to see if offender gets cold, hungry, tired etc and surrenders. Unfucking real!!!
10/07/2014 10:59:00 PM
It's called liability dummy, after the shots have stopped you can't just go in there and execute the offender. They would charge the swat guys criminally and most definitely they would be sued!!!
My best wishes to Ed and his family. I hope for a speedy recovery and am thankful he will be okay.
I remember him from back in the day when I was a dick in A/4 VC and he was a Tac officer downstairs. He was a hard worker but always brought in shit cases he tried to get felony charges on. Ha! Oh, for the good old days!
Get well soon, Cap.
Get well soon, many other inept, clueless white shirts on the radio, our "leaders" are a joke....
Zone Six dispatchers were always the best.
By the way, don't say Perp.
Now I guess he'll be promoted to detective.
Would it have made you feel better if swat busted in killing the offender, but in the process one or more swat guys got shot???? Meathead. It's handled the way it's handled to preserve life, especially the life of the good guys. Swat goes in when necessary, but they are not expendable the way you think they are.
McCarty running around with no clue looking at coppers and asking what are you doing here. What a peace of shit
Great job zone 6!
Fantastic job by the dispatcher!!!!!
I think 50% of the district commanders were there with their thumbs up their asses as usual.
A city the size of Chicago should have a full complement of SWAT on the street at all times: 2 12 hr shifts of at least 10 officers available immediately.
Finally, just an observation, such incidents should use 2 radio frequencies with 2 dispatchers. One would handle just the bullshit traffic: open the firehouse door; is the CFD canteen truck needed; should the trains still remain shut down; where do you want witnesses brough to, etc.
1. Captain Kulbica:
the REAL police
2. Civilians, your well wishes are appreciated.
3. Captain had to be taken to STROGER because there IS NO Level One Trauma center on Chicago's South Side.
HELLO? Emanuel? There's money to burn for a De Paul stadium in the South Loop but NO funds for a great HOSPITAL out south? You are a piece of work and I am GLAD I voted for Chico over you!
Anyone who knows him knows he is a jag to officers plain and simple. It will be a miracle if this gets posted but it won't. Speedy recovery so you can come back to work and be a bigger jag. Don't worry won't we will throw you a benefit and of course you shall keep all the money. Beat it!
I love how the commander of 003 gets on the air to "axe" the name of the officer who was shot. First week on the job, Dipshit?
700x is the acting commander this week....did you notice that 700 was not monopolizing the zone. And all those other bosses who talked on the zone just to be heard wouldn't have had a chance to if 700 was there...but great job by responding officers and the dispatcher
Tabithia did an OUTSTANDING job dispatching.
Good job to all officers on scene.
Wishing a speedy recovery for da Captain. Hopefully, the powers to be will find him a cushy spot at Homan Square like vice, the gambling unit, asset forfeiture, money laundering and the like. A credit to the Captain, he is a hard charger and he will soon return alongside the Englewood Rangers locking up the fools. Just a F.Y.I., Moochelle O’s motorcade blocked the response of units responding causing unnecessary traffic tie ups during rush hour for the nine to fivers coming home from work. Sorry for the delay getting to the scene.
Lets remain strong, back each other up and put our daily petty differences aside. We are one big family in blue and the camaraderie was so apparent at the hospital and on the scene. Kudos to the dispatcher, who remained calm, stayed in control and provided radio communication leadership reassuring everyone listening CPD had the situation under control. This bad situation had many law enforcement professionals on so many levels step up to the plate each making a contribution taking control of an otherwise initial chaotic scene. Thank God the XO will soon return to battle to fight another day. God Bless our first responders!
Speedy recovery Captain Bubble Head! If you need someone to work the door for your benefit, I'm sure there'll be a line for it. Karma is a b!tch!
God Bless the CPD, thankful no one's family gets that awful visit.
Savages are still savages. They have no business breathing the same air as decent human beings.
Stay safe,
--ret
If the dispatcher AMY doesn't get a department commendation for this incident, no one should. She was absolutely fantastic in handling the radio and events. She had to deal with each Commander who came up on the air just to get their names heard and still handled it great.
Over an hour for swat to get on scene. Ridiculous.
10/07/2014 09:59:00 PM
Because they are responding in their family's minivan. City won't give them cars so everything is half-ass. Just wait until a Mumbai-style attack happens here, people will die because of this nonsense
To the blog regarding that it took Swat over 1 hour to arrive: This is how it goes, the job has to be called from the scene by the highest ranking officer: then the call goes to Operations command who then calls the SWAT Office, next call to SWAT Commander, next calls go out to the on duty SWAT officers, then to all off duty: Swat equipment trucks and command Van and Light truck roll out of Homan Square on Westside, this takes time because usually the doors at human square where the trucks come out of are blocked by either unknown cars or K-9 officers that park there to go into office for roll call or other crap, or the priviledged narcotics officers who park everywhere, The Chief of Narcotics has attempted to use threats to stop this problem but nobody listens!!! Then when you leave the building at rush hour you will use lights and sirens to get to the job!! Set up the trucks and brief and GO!!. As with all other units manpower is stretched thin due to furloughs, medical, training etc. ususally there is at least 2 SORT cars up in the city, but what happened to all the qualified rifle officers in the district, and LEO should have been on scene with his cache of weapons. Please don't blast the SWAT TEAM, most of these guys DO NOT have take home cars, and use their own cars to respond. OH by the way, the SWAT guys need the cars, not like the 9 to 5 narcotics boys and girls and the inside organized crime folks who have take home cars and never never never respond to jobs after hours. Hey I'm just saying, and No, I'm not a Swat Guy. But fair is fair.
I'm confused at all the Englewood bashing. Yes Englewood is a hell hole, but this POS isn't even a product of Englewood. He just ran there from Indiana after shooting 3 people across the state border. Has nothing to do with Englewood.

If you have to ask that, you don't deserve an answer Handing out automatic rifles and machine guns?
Full and fast recovery, my prayers are with you and your family....
NOW, that was a horrible reminder as to why we must VOTE NO to the proposed CONTRACT

** if you listened to the whole thing, you would know that the firehouse was empty because everyone responded, and that the doors needed to be opened asap as that was the chosen location for the Command Post. I suppose he shoulda just stood around and waited, or maybe try to pick the lock? 1400 has forgotten more about police work than you will ever know.
Attorney General, please investigate why this black man was confronted by the police. If Obama had a child it would look like this black man.

Your inside joke just made me spit my drink all over the place... That was funny! Get well bubblehead, you're a pain in the ass but we do love you.
011 tact (1995)
Dispatcher did an outstanding job!!!!
Too many bosses on radio this is why we still need a Watch Commander for each shift!!!
Glad Bubblehead is OK he is a good policeman!!!

She's the best. We're lucky to have her on zone 6.
The police were in a man hunt and a gun battle for their lives, as King Rahm probably ate dinner at a 5 star restaurant pondering how he can screw us out of our pensions. ... After tooth picking his teeth, he and Mc Stuipd 'Rushed' to the hospital to eagerly check on the wounded Captain, er... I mean grandstand for the media.
Thank God the captain will be fine. But once again a piece of shit tries to assinate a police officer and SWAT is going to wait to see if offender gets cold, hungry, tired etc and surrenders. Unfucking real
So what you are saying is that more officers should rush the apt where a shithead with a gun, who has already shot the police, is barracaded and has the tactical advantage. Instead of waiting him out and not putting officers in jeopardy. Your idea is so much better, I think next time you should implement that tremendous plan yourself, I'll hold your wallet while you do it. Listen supercop, try not to be such a dumbass in a public forum
McStreetlights wants to be like NYPD so bad why isn't SWAT turned into a unit like their ESU and rolling on the street in trucks with all their equipment. 24/7. Then there's no need to call in off-duty guys with take home cars.
Used to date a Citywide 1 Dispatcher. All those guys and gals are incredible. They deserve more credit. Thank God the Cap is OK. Go Paula.

You mean the unit that no longer has take home cars? What did you expect, teleportation?
And take home cars would have changed anything. It was 6 PM, there were SWAT members on the street that could have responded. If it took SWAT members an hour to respond when they are working the street, what would have take home cars have done. Where did they come from that took an hour?
Full and fast recovery, my prayers are with you and your family....
NOW, that was a horrible reminder as to why we must VOTE NO to the proposed CONTRACT
10/08/2014 11:49:00 AM
We have to vote NO to the contract because a captain was shot trying to arrest a badguy on a warrant? Don't see how a vote on the contract has anything to do with this incident. Fugitives , marshalls and 007 didnt go out there undermanned or under paid.

Chain of command would be the same if SWAT had take home cars and the off duty guys would still be notified at the same time. Its not like there was a shortage of po's on the scene.
Fantastic job by the dispatcher!!!!!

Take away the take home cars of all of the ocd and narc people. Give those cars to swat...very simple. They don't need them anyways.
Great job. But wait the spars are coming. McCarty was pissed off
Leo what are you doing in 07th dist nothing time to move on
Zone 6 radio dispatchers are the best! Very precise very on point, love you guys! Keep Rocking on👊
Why do all the narcotics, vice and asset forfeiture people have take home cars? I mean other than being clouted. Is there ever an emergency narcotics or prostitution call out? Only here do they give take home cars to phone call babes instead of the swat team. They will have to bury a cop before they change this utter stupidity. And no I'm not in swat, but common sense is common sense.

I like what you did here.
I'd like to add that the powers that be should declare Eddie treasurer of the PBPA with unlimited and unfettered access to their checkbook. They can build him his own satellite office inside the Rosemont casino seeing that it's the closet to the city limits.

Capt MB stroking himself as the acting DC of 014 while the boss is on furlo. Hopefully this is the closest he ever comes to the real job.

Assign kulbida to inspections when he recovers from gunshots , he will respond to calls to assist the blue shirts
Just saying!!! The offender entered receiving of cook county jail and was met by many superintendents and director's that were trying to make his stay as comfortable as possible. Now for the record this is not the officers fault there it's the brass they are a joke
