Englewood Gun Battle

On going.

Officer shot and headed to Stroger.

Subject(s) trapped in a building nearby, SWAT en route.

Updates as able.

UPDATE: 700X grazed in the head and shot in the vest. Listed as critical, but that looks like a precaution due to age and location of wounds. Numerous media outlets say the Department spokespeople are saying "not life threatening," so we'll see.

UPDATE: Homicide suspect from Indiana?

UPDATE: Suspect identified as wanted in a triple shooting in Indianapolis this past weekend. It's a barricade situation at last report.

Englewood is a war zone that should be handled as one. If these animals feel the need to shoot at these officers then they should suffer the consequences. I only pray that the innocent people that still live there do not have to suffer needlessly and should protect themselves at all costs. Anyone that sees anything suspicious should not keep their mouths closed and stick up for themselves & any neighbors that may be worthy. The police are being targeted and a stronger force is needed from those in command to stop this from happening. I don't care if you lock up every gangbanger in this city just do something instead of spinning the truth about these senseless killings and shootings.

Kudos to the female dispatcher on Zone 6! In my over thirty years on this job, I have never heard a finer job of dispatching. She remained calm and cool and never lost control of the air. In spite of the chaos that I'm sure existed at the scene, that dispatcher quarterbacked the event like a true professional. I hope she gets the recognition that she truly deserves.

Monitoring the radio was a grim reminder of just how inept our 'leaders' truly are.

First we had clueless Bosshole 300 JJ asking for name(s) of officer(s) shot over the air, stupid motherfucker that he is.

Then we had double merit 799 that couldn't figure out what classification of RD should've been attached to the job, instead telling the dispatcher that she'd have to "defer to...." for a UCR.

It never ceases to amaze me to see how far this department has sunk in terms of the supervisory ranks. The ignorance and ineptness amongst those chosen to 'lead' us blue shirts is constantly on display; today, we had two prime examples of what's wrong with the merit system to remind us.

Best wishes to XO Bubblehead, glad to hear it wasn't life threatening.

I think 50% of the district commanders were there with their thumbs up their asses as usual.
A city the size of Chicago should have a full complement of SWAT on the street at all times: 2 12 hr shifts of at least 10 officers available immediately.
Finally, just an observation, such incidents should use 2 radio frequencies with 2 dispatchers. One would handle just the bullshit traffic: open the firehouse door; is the CFD canteen truck needed; should the trains still remain shut down; where do you want witnesses brough to, etc.

Wishing a speedy recovery for da Captain. Hopefully, the powers to be will find him a cushy spot at Homan Square like vice, the gambling unit, asset forfeiture, money laundering and the like. A credit to the Captain, he is a hard charger and he will soon return alongside the Englewood Rangers locking up the fools. Just a F.Y.I., Moochelle O’s motorcade blocked the response of units responding causing unnecessary traffic tie ups during rush hour for the nine to fivers coming home from work. Sorry for the delay getting to the scene.

Lets remain strong, back each other up and put our daily petty differences aside. We are one big family in blue and the camaraderie was so apparent at the hospital and on the scene. Kudos to the dispatcher, who remained calm, stayed in control and provided radio communication leadership reassuring everyone listening CPD had the situation under control. This bad situation had many law enforcement professionals on so many levels step up to the plate each making a contribution taking control of an otherwise initial chaotic scene. Thank God the XO will soon return to battle to fight another day. God Bless our first responders!

To the blog regarding that it took Swat over 1 hour to arrive: This is how it goes, the job has to be called from the scene by the highest ranking officer: then the call goes to Operations command who then calls the SWAT Office, next call to SWAT Commander, next calls go out to the on duty SWAT officers, then to all off duty: Swat equipment trucks and command Van and Light truck roll out of Homan Square on Westside, this takes time because usually the doors at human square where the trucks come out of are blocked by either unknown cars or K-9 officers that park there to go into office for roll call or other crap, or the priviledged narcotics officers who park everywhere, The Chief of Narcotics has attempted to use threats to stop this problem but nobody listens!!! Then when you leave the building at rush hour you will use lights and sirens to get to the job!! Set up the trucks and brief and GO!!. As with all other units manpower is stretched thin due to furloughs, medical, training etc. ususally there is at least 2 SORT cars up in the city, but what happened to all the qualified rifle officers in the district, and LEO should have been on scene with his cache of weapons. Please don't blast the SWAT TEAM, most of these guys DO NOT have take home cars, and use their own cars to respond. OH by the way, the SWAT guys need the cars, not like the 9 to 5 narcotics boys and girls and the inside organized crime folks who have take home cars and never never never respond to jobs after hours. Hey I'm just saying, and No, I'm not a Swat Guy. But fair is fair.

She's the best. We're lucky to have her on zone 6.

The police were in a man hunt and a gun battle for their lives, as King Rahm probably ate dinner at a 5 star restaurant pondering how he can screw us out of our pensions. ... After tooth picking his teeth, he and Mc Stuipd 'Rushed' to the hospital to eagerly check on the wounded Captain, er... I mean grandstand for the media.

Thank God the captain will be fine. But once again a piece of shit tries to assinate a police officer and SWAT is going to wait to see if offender gets cold, hungry, tired etc and surrenders. Unfucking real

So what you are saying is that more officers should rush the apt where a shithead with a gun, who has already shot the police, is barracaded and has the tactical advantage. Instead of waiting him out and not putting officers in jeopardy. Your idea is so much better, I think next time you should implement that tremendous plan yourself, I'll hold your wallet while you do it. Listen supercop, try not to be such a dumbass in a public forum

McStreetlights wants to be like NYPD so bad why isn't SWAT turned into a unit like their ESU and rolling on the street in trucks with all their equipment. 24/7. Then there's no need to call in off-duty guys with take home cars.

Over an hour for swat to get on scene. Ridiculous.

10/07/2014 09:59:00 PM

You mean the unit that no longer has take home cars? What did you expect, teleportation?

And take home cars would have changed anything. It was 6 PM, there were SWAT members on the street that could have responded. If it took SWAT members an hour to respond when they are working the street, what would have take home cars have done. Where did they come from that took an hour?

Full and fast recovery, my prayers are with you and your family....

NOW, that was a horrible reminder as to why we must VOTE NO to the proposed CONTRACT

10/08/2014 11:49:00 AM

We have to vote NO to the contract because a captain was shot trying to arrest a badguy on a warrant? Don't see how a vote on the contract has anything to do with this incident. Fugitives , marshalls and 007 didnt go out there undermanned or under paid.

Chain of command would be the same if SWAT had take home cars and the off duty guys would still be notified at the same time. Its not like there was a shortage of po's on the scene.

Fantastic job by the dispatcher!!!!!
I think 50% of the district commanders were there with their thumbs up their asses as usual.
A city the size of Chicago should have a full complement of SWAT on the street at all times: 2 12 hr shifts of at least 10 officers available immediately.

Who says SWAT doesn't have that many men available? With the amount of men in SWAT there should be 10-12 men available and probably are.

It's called liability dummy, after the shots have stopped you can't just go in there and execute the offender. They would charge the swat guys criminally and most definitely they would be sued!!!

10/08/2014 06:16:00 AM

Then why not just have the beat guys surround the area and have them wait?

Take away the take home cars of all of the ocd and narc people. Give those cars to swat...very simple. They don't need them anyways.

Why do all the narcotics, vice and asset forfeiture people have take home cars? I mean other than being clouted. Is there ever an emergency narcotics or prostitution call out? Only here do they give take home cars to phone call babes instead of the swat team. They will have to bury a cop before they change this utter stupidity. And no I'm not in swat, but common sense is common sense.

I like what you did here.

I'd like to add that the powers that be should declare Eddie treasurer of the PBPA with unlimited and unfettered access to their checkbook. They can build him his own satellite office inside the Rosemont casino seeing that it's the closet to the city limits.

"* if you listened to the whole thing, you would know that the firehouse was empty because everyone responded, and that the doors needed to be opened asap as that was the chosen location for the Command Post. I suppose he shoulda just stood around and waited, or maybe try to pick the lock? 1400 has forgotten more about police work than you will ever know."

That was actually the XO of 14 not the commander. The commander is on furlough.

I'm confused at all the Englewood bashing. Yes Englewood is a hell hole, but this POS isn't even a product of Englewood. He just ran there from Indiana after shooting 3 people across the state border. Has nothing to do with Englewood.
