More Cold = Less Crime?

  • At least three people have been killed and 26 others wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

The most recent fatal shooting took place just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of West 59th Street.
Amusingly, NBC has started putting this disclaimer at the top of their weekend shooting report articles:
  • Editor's Note: NBC Chicago includes shootings that took place between 6 p.m. Friday and 12 a.m. Monday in the weekend violence report.
Meaning that this is a preliminary number - the article was posted at 7:05 pm Sunday, so there are still almost 5 hours to go on the crime clock.

What ever happened to keeping a running total on public school kids killed?

I guess that is just old news.

The articles are so short in newspapers they don't even quote anyone anymore!

The. The update.

UPDATE PER LT XXXX: ACCORDING TO DETECTIVES ON SCENE, INCIDENT WILL BE RECLASSIFIED, SELF-INFLICTED. VICTIM APPARENTLY SHOT HIMSELF IN THE FOREHEAD. NO WEAPON RECOVERED. INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

So let me get this right, he shoots himself in the forehead not once but TWICE, and then hides the gun before he drops dead. Maybe he had a suicide pact with the guy in Hegwich who dismembered himself or the guy in 014 that bashed his head in. Anyone with a half a brain can see that they are classifying a lot of these murders into death investigations to keep the numbers down then after the new year they will quietly change them back to murders.
Here's the game folks...classify as many as you can to death investigations and report the number of murders as being low. In Jan change them back to murders to raise the number and compare them year to date and show a decrease. It's that easy.

Here's the the question that I have that the union guy either couldn't, or wouldn't answer for me in roll call.

If we have comp time denied under this new contract and we are unable to find a tour of duty exchange partner, can we still grieve having time due or personals denied?

With this agreement of supposed joint determination of the necessary staffing levels, have we effectively given up our right to grieve denied time due, because the union supposedly has agreed with the department as to how many people are necessary to run the watch on a daily basis?

I don't know the answer to this, but think it should be sorted out before an arbiter figures it out for us.

Good morning SCC - It was another "More Lead, Less Dead" weekend.

Weekend: 2 killed, 33 wounded (6 critical/serious)
Last year: 4 killed, 12 wounded

We backed out the apparent suicide but haven't yet added in the accidental dismemberment. Awaiting to see when it happened not if it's a homicide.

Nothing stops your ability to file a grievance. You should file a grievance that you don't understand the grievance procedure.

OT...Rahm is extending the deadline for Health insurance decisions to Oct 23rd. Well that sort of sucks. Open enrollment for most other plans don't start until November. So retiree's that might want to change are screwed.

Back in the day, when a murder was committed, the story made headline news.
Nowadays, killings are rarely reported: Articles may be found on page-10 of your local newspaper.

I've noticed WGN, via FB, has been reporting Chicago shootings...gotta give them credit.

In the meantime mainstream news teams are way too focused on Ferguson, MO.
The 'poor' Gentle Giant's parents are milking the issue for what it's (not) worth. Their goal is to incite riots, um, protesting across the country. Their words.

In the meantime, black on black fatalities continue in Chicago's west and south sides.
Jackson and Sharpton ignore these killings, instead, sticking their Pinocchio schnozolas in places 'donations' and 'media' sensationalism lies.

I miss the old Chicago. A time when police were respected. A time when media boasted their cities authorities.

What went wrong? Something is amiss.

Murders, shootings and other violence based crimes typically occur with a lesser frequency on Sundays. Weather is not a factor, it just my man got to be fresh for works on Monday morning to start off the new work week right. After church on Sunday, its family day with the children and baby mamas, a day of the Lord complete with abstinence from the sins of alcohol, weed and late nite nightclubs. Monday is the day to put on those Timberland work boots and Carhartt jackets and get busy at the j-o-b. The weather, especially the rain, the sleet nor the snow can't keep my man from the jobsite and his enthusiasm to put in that honest 8 hour day.

Prosecutors: Woman carjacked from Northwest Side, sexually assaulted

"A Humboldt Park man was ordered held on no bail Sunday after prosecutors said he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman before driving her home and giving her his cell phone number.

"Daniel M. Garcia, 27, of the 3200 block of West Evergreen Avenue, is charged with kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual assault and vehicular hijacking...

"The 29-year-old victim...[was] with a friend and they stopped to get gas in the 4000 block of North Pulaski Road...

"The male friend entered the station to purchase some items, while the woman was looking at her cell phone in the car.

"Suddenly Garcia entered the car and sped away...

"The victim tried to stop the car, grabbing the steering wheel, but Garcia punched her in the face...

"Garcia took the woman’s cell phone and told her he had a gun and that he was supposed to kill her...“I’m part of a cartel,” Garcia told her...

"After she pleaded with him not to rape her, Garcia parked the car in an isolated area and choked the woman before sexually assaulting her.

"He then drove her to her home, stopping at an Orland Park bank to take $100 out of the ATM with the woman’s debit card...

“We can work this out,” Garcia told the woman...

"He then put his number in her cell phone, told her “I’ll see you tomorrow,” and drove away in her car.

"Garcia was pulled over and arrested in Orland Park about 4:30 a.m..."

OT.....just got my FOP newsletter and it seems like I had read the President's Report before.......anyway, I think it is funny how ANY language regarding pension can make its way into our contract when we are told that RESIDENCY cannot be introduced because it is state law......well so is the pension. DA states that this pension issue protects us against any contribution increases by FORCING the City to RENEGOTIATE our salaries.....protects us how.....so we FORCE the City to RENEGOTIATE our salaries and they say tough shit.....thank you DA but I don't like wool!!!!

Both wgn and fox start off their 9pm news with hit pieces on cops.

take your raise and run. I expect you guys to get smear type coverage nonstop if you go to arbitration.

your union needs a public relations campaign through this pension reform just to keep up with the constant anti police media bombardment.

in every instance of news stories, I see people acting like belligerent grade school trouble makers expecting the police to stand down just because they yell loud enough they expect the police to suddenly let them go.

I don't think it's hard to live in this town, go to work, get around, run my errands, go out... without running into fights with police officers.

I've been pulled over for traffic, I've tried to talk my way out of a ticket, sometimes successfully.

What I do find more challenging, is getting around, playing hopscotch with all the scumbags loitering near my train stop, eyeballing me at traffic lights, driving like assholes, ruining the nightlife in certain areas,
and making it so you have to think twice before checking out some new club or restaurant and making entire sections of town nogo areas...

I don't go out with friends or take out a girlfriend worrying that the police might shoot us... let's be serious. The people shooting at other people or mowing people down driving like criminals are the same people on these news stories complaining about the police.

Criminals don't have any reason whatsoever to fear the criminal justice system, or cops.

Those who are of that mindset to commit violence upon others will do exactly that as long as there is no deterrence.

Has anyone else noticed that local news is keeping the number of shootings and murders hush hush? I remember a year or two ago it seemed like every other day there would be a tally on how many people were shot. Funny how things change quickly. Now we just hear menial stories about the closing of a lousy hotdog stand and this past weekends fire festival failure. Crime in Chicago is still alive and well. It's just not being reported on the news.
