- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on Tuesday that a patient being treated at a Dallas hospital has tested positive for Ebola, the first case diagnosed in the United States.
The patient left Liberia on September 19 and arrived in the United States on September 20, CDC director, Dr. Tom Frieden told reporters at a press conference Tuesday. It’s the first patient to be diagnosed with this particular strain of Ebola outside of Africa.
“[The patient] had no symptoms when departing Liberia or entering this country. But four or five days later on the 24th of September, he began to develop symptoms,” said Frieden.

The Ebola Epidemic in Nigeria started with one guy at the airport.

After 9/11 we were told that we were okay handling "white powder" wearing rubber gloves and cheap face masks. (a PO & SGT staffed a car dedicated to collecting "white powder.")The Fire Department had similar cars staffed by a firefighter and one of their officers with full protective gear dedicated to the same tasks. A lot of agencies were wearing full hazmat gear and decontaminating personnel and equipment as part of their collection efforts.
The State Public Health Lab was overwhelmed for months after 9/11.
One of the initial AIDS orders read that if any department equipment (stretchers etc) came in contact with doa's bodily fluids it was to be destroyed(no mention of how) but our personal equipment was fine if we washed it. (at home in our washing machine) and the wagon was to be disinfected by EMMD. EMMD refused and we did it ourselves.
At one point we were issued (like a radio issued) flimsy PPE/personal protective equipment. This lasted a couple of month. Most of the kits were cannibalized of the rubber gloves by lock-up personnel. Once a kit was open the whole kit was to be destroyed and replaced. We used a lot of equipment from these cannibalized kits after 9/11 because there was no alternative.
Video training for decon procedures in a shower showed the fire department setting up tents in the street. We were to strip down, dump all of our equipment, and flood ourselves with water inside the tents. I was never able to get an answer from anyone as to how this procedure would be done in February.
OEMC might have plans for mitigating these issues however they don't seem to talk to anyone but themselves.
We are no more prepared for any kind of disaster than we were on 9/10/01.

This type of "expert" boneheaded-ness is also prevalent with spider bites.
I got bit by a Brown Recluse in Wisconsin a few years ago and a spider expert at one of the California Universities says it was impossible. Brown Recluse are not north of St. Louis.
Went to a dermatologist who had expertise in infectious spider bites and he diagnosed it immediately and also said he had another patient who was bit in Lake Geneva. This doctor was the GREATEST.
As for the experts - if a Chinese Beetle can come all the way from China to eat trees in Chicago, a Recluse spider can travel on lumber on a train from the south to the North. *(which is how they move around - in loads of timber)
Watch out for spider bites - they are VERY bad and can kill you. Go to a doctor - the venom (especially from Brown Recluse) can eat all the way down to the bone. Don't believe me - look up the pictures on the Internet of Brown Recluse spider bites - it will scare the crap out of you.

A virus btw for which there is no cure and kills between 50-90% of those infected. Another reason to thank obama and his administration. What a great time for obamacare to kick in.

The woman he lived with and two kids are "quarantined" in her apartment. She isn't happy. How long do you think that will last? They had to figure out how to get food to the family and deal with the waste they produce. They fumbled badly. A total clusterflop. And this was a major metropolitan city. What will happen when it hits Bumflop Crossing, IL? Or Chicago? Will Rahm amaze us? Will the city council save us? Or will they be "out of town?"

"While Duncan is in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, his partner and three others have been stuck in a Dallas apartment since his diagnosis this week. Louise told CNN that authorities had her sign paperwork stating "if we step outside, they are going to take us ... to court (because) we'll have committed a crime."
"So there she has stayed, along with her 13-year-old son and two nephews in their 20s. But it hasn't been easy.
"Louise says she is checking her temperature every hour, and based on that and everything else, isn't sick. She expressed frustration being confined nonetheless, since people are only contagious with Ebola if they are symptomatic.
"She said no one brought food Thursday to four people who can't leave to get it themselves, at least until later in the day. There was also the matter of their power going out, which was likely related to strong storms that rolled through the area. "(CNN) -- An American cameraman working for NBC News in Liberia has tested positive for Ebola, the network reported Thursday.
"He will return to the United States for treatment.
"The freelance cameraman, 33, was hired Tuesday and came down with symptoms on Wednesday, NBC News reported. The network said it was withholding his name at his family's request.
"We are doing everything we can to get him the best care possible. He will be flown back to the United States for treatment at a medical center that is equipped to handle Ebola patients," NBC News President Deborah Turness reportedly said in a note to staff."

There are several really scary things about this Ebola outbreak.
While there have been others, most have died out after a few days or weeks with deaths around a few dozen. While the health officials keep saying that the virus is not air-borne, this government administration has been caught lying and misinforming the public that no one trust them.
Seeing how this round of Ebola hasn't died out, this virus could go on for weeks or months. If it becomes infectious it could kill thousands.
CDC claims that it is controlled are silly compared to the open borders situation.
I guess all those hundreds of thousands of coffins that are stacked up in different states are gonna be put to use.
