Stroller Gang Busted
It's ridiculous that the media is making this into some sort of "cause," seeing as how (A) the bike was left unsecured by anything but a 8-foot-scalable-fence and (B) the owner of the pizza joint has already expressed an interest in "lecturing" the evil-doers:
- Two people are charged in connection with a robbery caught on video at a Wicker Park pizza parlor last week.
Gwenel McKeebey, 18, is charged with theft for allegedly stealing $10 from a tip jar at Craft Pizza.
Police say surveillance video captured that incident, along with a juvenile male stealing the owner's bike out back of the restaurant. He has also been charged.
Anyone want to bet the defense attorneys find some way to say the police forced him to sign complaints or bullied him in some way? If there wasn't video of the whole thing, this is one of the larger non-stories in recent memory. We didn't realize that the pension problem had been solved, that tens-of-thousands of manufacturing jobs had suddenly migrated back into the state and Illinois' $80 billion debt had evaporated.
But hey, that theft clearance rate just ticked upward!

This is what the media calls a human interest story. It is also non-political. The last thing they want to do is draw attention to the horrible economic and cultural condition the state is in under liberal leadership.

Broken windows strategy has to start somewhere
It's good that stroller gang got busted for stealing. It might teach a lesson to other section 8'ers living on $3,000 a month "supervouchers" to stop acting like ghetto animals.
Make them do community service picking up trash or something!!
...and "news radio" still going about this, pre-dawn, just what you wanted to wake up to...
I give up. Just tell me when the pizza joint has scheduled its fundraiser for this crew.
Squeeze a few more weeks of publicity out, and then heartwarming followups "on the one-year anniversary..."
Could the 'journalists' reading this please educate themselves about the difference between a robbery and theft, and a burglary and theft?
Also, please get off the 'poor youth' bandwagon already. These kids can afford clothes, a stroller, etc. Sheer thuggery made them do this...I'm sure there was peanut butter and jelly at home. But these 'youths' feel they are entitled to have whatever they want whenever they want it. The media perpetuates the attitude.
Shocked that the dets got signed complaints.
Yep, just because of the video. Good thing the coppers in 014 recognized the culprits.
she should be punished in a way that would really make her suffer...make her get a job.
"At the end of the day, it's kids. But that young, and to be committing crimes that brazen and that bold and, you know, senseless," Craft Pizza owner Scott Toth told WGN-TV."
It's not "senseless." They saw something they wanted, so they took it. Eyes connected directly to hands, no brain in the loop to process anything.
"Kids?" Here, a Chicago classic.
"Robert "Yummy" Sandifer (March 12, 1983 — September 1, 1994) was an American gang member whose murder by fellow gang members in Chicago, Illinois garnered national attention...Sandifer was a young member of the street gang the Black Disciples BD.
"Yummy was known for bullying and extorting money from local children and the community in the Chicago neighborhood of Roseland. He liked luxury cars and, remarkably, was able to drive them despite his small stature. Many of his 23 felonies and 5 misdemeanors were committed in the course of running errands for street gangs. The penal system had no way to keep him out of trouble and the courts were helpless to lock him away because he was too young for juvenile detention and too dangerous to be placed with children his age.
"On August 28, 1994, Sandifer began harassing locals from his neighborhood. He opened fire several times with a 9 millimeter semiautomatic pistol, striking several youths. Sandifer quickly fled the scene. Shavon Dean, age 14, later died from her gunshot wounds. The nation was shocked by the brutality of the crime and the fact that the alleged perpetrator was only 11 years old.
"The Chicago Police began a manhunt for Sandifer...On Wednesday, August 31, while still in hiding, Sandifer was met by brothers Cragg and Derrick Hardaway, ages 16 and 14, members of the Black Disciples street gang. Sandifer was told he was being taken some place safe and ordered into a waiting car. Instead, he was brought to a viaduct underpass and told to get on his knees. While on his knees, he was shot twice in the back of his head by Cragg and Derrick Hardaway."

North side coppers kicked ASS IN solving this one.
Speaking of the state's $80 BILLION debt, Chicago still being part of the state even though those living south of I-80 wish it wasn't, Rahm announced this week that he is going to spend $5.7 million for a new boathouse in bridgeport on the river so that "rowers" have a place to store their gear. When he says "rowers" I assume he means those nitwits that pulled around those stupid little picture screens in the river after the Great Chicago Fire Festival Fiasco. Oh, and Rahm's $2.6 million skatepark in Grant Park is supposed to open this month. You know, the one that was supposed to be privately funded but then the city had to come up with $2.5 million from the TIFF fund to finance it. And still the nine and a half digit midget still threatens to increase property taxes if he has to pay for missed payments to our pension fund!
I will give the kids new bikes for Christmas. I own a bike shop in the 19th district. I have some customer "trade ins" for the asking. I'll handle it with the restaurant owner. I will do it without any personal publicity. It might help these children in the long run.

In layman's terms robbery is "the action of robbing a person or place" or "unashamed swindling or overcharging," e.g. highway robbery.
When people say they were assaulted, they usually mean battered in legal terms, but in layman's terms assault is "to make a physical attack on."
Journalists are speaking to a wider audience than those employed in criminal justice.
bet that expensive stroller was stolen from somewhere
Watch this guy about Ferguson. He is a genius and well spoken and Black. Forget about political ideologies. This guy speaks reality

I agree with the post that suggested picking up trash (SWAP) as a punishment. Too bad the judge will only issue six months court supervision for the offenders. God forbid one make a juvenile pick up trash, the ACLU would be screaming that a "child" was forced to do manual labor.

The only regret I have about that piece of shit is that when he died he cost me future court time and CB numbers.

THIS!
As sure as bird shit falls from the sky...
Liberal feel-good, group hug mind set in the face of goonery/savagery = Insanity.
Hope to live long enough to see upright people take up the tools and trappings of violence to protect themselves and what they worked hard to have...
"That's mean and racist!"
No... It isn't...
To bike shop owner in 019: the slug fenced the bike for $100 bucks, he didn't use it to go to and from school and to his part time job. Goes to show you how dumb liberals are..... Same with channel 7 news, let's identify these thieves when you block out all their faces.....do you realize how dumb that is????? Let's have a photo array of blurry circles on each face.

Thus, they have the opportunity to use the terms correctly and educate a wider audience. Dumbing it down isn't the correct way to handle this.

Be gentle with the libs who troll here looking to pick a fight...
The media's job is to make sure they don't gag on reality that isn't cut into tiny pieces and smothered with Kumbaya sauce.
And when they ARE splashed with the shit-mud of reality, it's funny to watch them "Inner Conflict Like a Motherfucker" as they try to conjure plausible deniability about the stinking stuff they thought only "you mean and hateful cops" and "others" got splashed with...
Stinks like the very Devil doesn't it?
Ha-M/Fing-Ha...
Some tender sensibilities were hopefully offended.
Robbery? I thought it was a theft...two of them, in fact.
Anything on the puter or boob tube will command a response from the ivory tower!
The calls come in daily from merit hacks at HQ asking about cases they view on their laptops drinking 5 dollar coffees.
They never offer resources but always want to know the inside scoop. The best is when a clouted Alderman starts to call and unlimited overtime is given to solve some piss ant case such as a bike theft.
Thus, they have the opportunity to use the terms correctly and educate a wider audience. Dumbing it down isn't the correct way to handle this.
Why is the legal term correct vs. the layman's term for a newspaper, which is not a court of law, nor a legal proceeding?

Why reward criminal behavior and reinforce the someone-give-me-something-for-nothing?
Why don't you give them jobs and let them earn a bike? Hell, that's not what they're looking for anyway. Fast cash money. Jackets, phones, laptops, bags, bikes, any low-hanging fruit left laying around to pick.
I am just thankful this hideous crime spree was ended before more bodies piled up.

Oh NOOOOO! Not that! In that case, the only way she will ever make more money is to scream for an increase in the minimum wage. You know that shit like that will never ever rise above minimum wage.

I couldn't agree more. I can't stand when the news says "Police need your help in locating an offender....(bullshit details)" then leave out the race. Could you imagine submitting a case report and leaving that detail out? Why does the media do it? Why even bother? Usually you can figure it out after watching the story and listening to the neighborhood. It's so funny how they describe the color of the clothes, the color of the car but not the offender. Then CH 7 blocks out the faces? What assholes.
