The Bike is BACK!!!

  • A $700 custom-made bike has been recovered after a band of young people dubbed the "Stroller Gang" stole it and tip money from a Wicker Park pizzeria over the weekend.

The bike was sold to someone who later saw the video and turned it in to police, according to 14th District police.
We'd also like to thank the people who pointed out that Channel 7 ran this story the other night with all the faces blurred out - and then asked the viewers to contact the police if they recognized anyone involved in the theft. Yes, they were serious.

For the record: 279 new Police Officers have been hired so far this year as of today’s date.

It looks like the city is barely keeping up with the number of retirees.

Yes, they did. I turned to look at the video and said something I won't repeat here when I saw the blurred ovals gliding along on the screen.
It was at that point, I determined the story was supposed to be entertainment, not news. The video showing the unchained bike being taken confirmed my opinion.

SO glad the bike is back however the owner is apparently said to have had several bikes stolen in the past so 'why' did he 'invite' folks to steal the bike by not having it locked up, out of sight?

The more this story bleeds, the more I get pissed off.

In general, these "victims" who "need help" all over the local media are the same ones who f__k with you when you're locking your bike. It's like you're the one making the world a worse place by violating some nonexistent social contract.

Condescending tone. "No one will take it" -- like you're an idiot.

"The store will be closed by the time you get that all locked up." Etc.

There is also a parallel "We never lock OUR doors" pathology going on. Like hell you don't. You also have ADT signs stuck all over the place.

It's too weird.

I bet the pizza cook is really glad that multiple news outlets have announced that he got his $700 bike back along with the location of where he works (and, therefore, where the bike will be. Don't be surprised when it goes missing again.

For those blaming the cook for not locking up his bike did you really watch the story? The bike was behind a 10 foot spiked fence. How many of us would have locked our bike back there? Yes he had other bikes stolen, but no one said they were stolen from that location. Use your heads, stop blaming the victim and blame the perps.

Yow! Flip Trib head sez --

"Chicago's stroller gang hits Wicker Park's new "Craft Pizza."

Uh...sounds like one of those "Tonight our camera crew visits the trendy new bistro/Pilates parlor/day spa/boutique/hookah lounge our friends just opened, isn't Chicago one big glittery breathless whirl of excitement if you have lots of money" pieces.

Really, it's the way coolest thing that could have happened.

Possible outcomes here --

* Tour buses begin to stop at pizza joint and recount the harrowing Tale Of The Tip Jar

* "Stroller Gang" is given elaborate new house by "local church groups working with Habitats For Humanity"

The mind boggles.

Isn't this the second "Millenial guy gets his expensive bike back" splash we've seen fairly recently? Some kind of smartphone/video/craigslist/Internet tie-in there, too.

They like all that stuff, shows that their virtual construct of the world is working great.

That bike was out of sight behind a 10ft fence. You should be pointing out that he shouldn't have to worry about locking it up behind a locked fence although with all of these honor students roaming around maybe everything should be behind bullet proof glass just like in the hood

Well, does any of it really make a difference?

--- If *Jasmine* would have been caught stealing the Tip Money, confronting her would be... Racist! Ya see, it wasn't her fault, she 'thought' it was Free Money, like stores have loose pennys out for you to use. If she was white nobody would say 'nuttin' about the 'misunderstanding'.

--- If little *Julian* was caught stealing the Bike confronting him would be, you got it...Racist! Ya see, being 'poor' he doesn't know what locked gates mean as nobody in his family or neighborhood can afford locks. Since the bike wasn't chained or secured in any manner he 'thought' it was being thrown away. If he was White nobody would say 'nuttin' about the 'misunderstanding'.

Oh well, don't ya love those "Chicago Values".

It's a good thing that pizza place was there instead of a Chick-Fil-A. Those poor yutes may have seen a Bible on the counter and scarred for life by that hateful book.

The "Stroller Gang"...

They were raised on LINK Cards, without WORK ETHIC. They get together to go out to steal like normal people go to jobs.

No one needs to steal to eat not with the welfare that taxpayers provide. They steal for dope and $150 a pair sneakers.

If caught Baby Mama would plead her baby needs her and that stroller is a good place to hide a gun.

Stay Safe. Would you think to search it.

Me. (I actually ride.)

I know POs have had their bike locked to something solid inside a locked garage w/dog in yard, motion-activated floods, etc. and it still went.

Bring mine into my own living room and at least U-lock front wheel to frame. At home. Period.

I have seen 'em vanish between the time I was looking over there and the time I glanced back again. Disappearing around the corner. That quick.

There it is.

Most of us would lock it. I don't care if there's a bubble around it.
Then again, I had neighbors in a condo who moved here from rural Iowa, who never locked their condo door. Why? Oh, because the building door had a lock on it and that was enough for them. (Until they were burglarized, anyway. And then they were so disillusioned, they moved BACK to Iowa.)

Top billing for CPD on ABC World News tonight. CPD has paid 240 million dollars in the last ten years in police brutality law suits. Great job!!! Instead of spending money on continuous training our officers in target discrimination, firearms and defensive tactics we let these people file law suits against us. What a joke we have become!!! Millions of dollars paid out!! What do you expect from the circus and the clowns they call exempts? Look at them. You think any of them are professional police officers? You think they believe in training. Calloway who is ADS of the academy is scared of guns. I heard him say he doesn't like training on firearms or shooting. Who is Barb a west going to chase? You think she can shoot? Guiliford is scared of his own shadow. Disgusting.

I saw a Facebook news feed the other day. Shows a white hand holding a gun and the link to the story describes two African American males who committed armed robberies. Why do they do that? Now what if it were the other way around? A black hand holding a gun and the story was about two white robbery offenders? I don't understand why the news just can't tell the uncloaked truth? Is the public going to get upset at what the public is doing? WTF? It's so funny when the news gives a description and says the police need your help and they describe every detail but the race. Then you hear the neighborhood and realize it's a black neighborhood. I wrote in a few times on various stories asking them why they leave out race and I never get a response back. Never. I often think to myself what if we started doing that in case reports? Just arbitrarily left the race off the report. Why even bother reporting the news and say the cops are asking for help but then don't give detailed facts?

I've been laughing for decades whenever I think of the old Addams Family episode which depicted Gomez, the undisputed Man Of The House, in his ca. 1940 pinstriped banker's suit -- you could almost smell the mothballs -- out in the yard up on a tall stepladder sharpening his wrought-iron fence.

Had a great big 18" mill bastard file. The real ones like that are not so easy to find these days.

Work a little, carefully test the point with his finger, file some more, squint at the result...

Oh, I know this one in my bones. Important thing is that they keep the faith and NEVER TELL ANYONE WHO DID WHAT. Right? Do not violate the social contract that no longer exists for anyone else.

Like I say, there's an underlying pathology. Sometimes it is very sad, though. No room has been left for trust or innocence anymore, and the good people are shaken to the core.

That's OK -- but I feel that one is less than a man if one does not speak out about right and wrong when one has the option to. I can sure understand silence, ducking behind the blinds, if the option is to be shot on your front porch by the weekend -- but the hand-wringing "liberal guilt," discharged into an earth berm from a safe distance, is unbearable, and makes the ongoing, deliberate disintegration of Western society that much harder to deal with.

At least the couple I talked to who moved to Round Lake Beach "to get away from the gangs" -- and fled back to Chicago, almost immediately -- imparted some useful information to me about the area.

"Speak truth to bulls__t." It could save a life. If there is a quicksand pit down the trail, for God's sake warn your fellow traveler who is headed that way.

What have we become?

That's the thing. Used to get dinner invitations, etc. from co-workers on the South Side -- not far at all from where I grew up -- and the folding burglar gates and Fox locks and fear were already just part of the scenery there 30-40 years ago. Go in once all the hardware was laboriously undone and the place was lovely, spotless, cleaner than mine. Showed great pride and effort.

Just people, just trying to live...

Free pizza offered at Wicker Park eatery after stolen bike returned

Nov. 15, 2014 2:24 PM

"Hungry bikers scored slices of free pizza at a Wicker Park eatery in celebration of the restaurant's cook being reunited with his custom-made bike, which was stolen by a group dubbed the "Stroller Gang," according to staffers.

"It's because we're so happy that our cook's bike was found," said Craft Pizza employee Tavia Hanrahan.

"After swiping money from the tip jar, the group spotted the bike behind the building. One of the boys scaled a locked fence to steal it. Both thefts were caught on security camera and posted on YouTube."

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-free-pizza-offered-at-wicker-park-eatery-after-stolen-bike-found-20141115-story.html

Not only that, the staff has learned its lesson. They're going to leave the iron back gate unlocked from now on so nobody gets hurt -- except maybe for the woman who gets dragged in there and raped under the stairs or something.
