This is Gonna Mess Up CompStat

Eighty-seven is a decent age to live until. Most of us probably won't see eighty-seven. But this guy might have topped ninety, if he hadn't been shot seventy years ago:
  • For years, 87-year-old Tom Buchanan had talked vaguely about being shot. Now relatives are wondering exactly where and when Buchanan was wounded after the Cook County medical examiner’s office determined the wound contributed to his death this week, some seven decades later.

Buchanan was pronounced dead Sunday at 11:18 a.m. at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A Wednesday autopsy determined Buchanan, who lived in the Armour Square Apartments, an independent living facility in the 3200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, died of complications of intestinal obstruction and a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

“The autopsy determined that the gunshot ultimately caused the complications to his abdomen which eventually killed him,’’ said Frank Shuftan, a spokesman for the medical examiner’s office. Shuftan said Buchanan was born March, 3, 1927.

A secondary cause of death was listed as heart disease, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled his death a homicide.
We'll bet you a million dollars Rahm and Garry cover this one up.

Seventy years later...

Think of this in light of all the "non-life-threatening" crap the media repeat and repeat these days.

I'm sure that the shooting was also "random/not random" and "targeted/not targeted" (used interchangeably -- so "the public is safe."

Ha! That's a sucker bet.

And I'll bet another million that whoever shot Tom Buchanan didn't hold the gun sideways or flee the scene holding their pants up because they weren't wearing a belt.

Sorry just a non supervisory member who has resigned to doing anything above and beyond. Lots of Xos, commanders, chiefs, bean counters etc who need to lose sleep and chew Maalox dealing with this stuff. It is sad, but lots of upper management get paid very well to figure this type of stuff out. Know your role and don’t exceed your bounds in this backward organization.

Hmmm... 87 years old and shot 70 years ago.

Now I don't know anything more than what is stated on this post but let's say I was writing an episode of one of those CSI Sherlock Holmes mystery shows.

Let's do the math.

2015 minus 70 equals 1945 and he would have been 17 years old.

What could a 17 year old been involved with in 1945. Maybe something called WORLD WAR II. It was in all the papers.

Back then there were many underage G.I.s. A very dear friend of mine landed on Iwo Jima as a Marine on his 17th birthday. (RIP & Semper Fi Joe)

He could even be due a belated Purple Heart. The family might file a Form SF 180 with the Department of Veterans Affairs to find out.

Fioretti has also come out against using public land for the Presidential library. I wouldn't care if it was for Lincoln. There is no way we should be giving up public land for this.

Emmanuel is fronting some sham "neighborhood" meeting to get permission. Hey, Mister Megalomaniac, the lakefront and parks belong to the whole city.

This, for me would be a single issue reason to vote against Emmanuel. This little weasel, however, has given us so many reasons.

I like what Fioretti has to say. Let's put him in office and hold him to it. Where do I get a lawn sign?

Not knowing if he was ever in the service, but it could be that if he was able to have signed up and serve in 1944-45 (even though 17), he or his NOK may be eligible for certain death benefits if it was found that the injury was due to military service.

For Pete's sake, are you even paying attention? Rahm, Chewy and the other guy have stated some very anti-police bias. Fioretti has been all pro police. If he is a disappointment , he goes in four years. The other three have already said they are our enemy.

Good for Bob. I hope he is OK. The CPD IAD really F$cked him due to some BS allegations his EX made against him. He was able to prove he didn't do anything she said with video, witnesses and phone records but since he was a PPO they screwed him. He worked for PD's before and after CPD and they knew the allegations were false. (Thanks JODY for sticking up for him). His other brother still works hard for the CPMF.

It takes a LOT to get an addition put on a school and it sure doesn't happen overnight.

I've worked with Garrido on and off over the years. He works hard at whatever he's working on, whether it's homicides or law school. He's one of those people who doesn't need much sleep, so he gets a lot more done than most people can.

He's a nice guy, he knows how to laugh at himself, he's learned how to be a good supervisor and he's efficient and timely with his paperwork. He knows how to write a proposal, he gets along with people and he knows his stuff.

The current alderman up here has failed miserably. Neighbors are furious about the condition of the streets and the goof wanted to bring Milwaukee Avenue down to one lane, right out to the city border, crushing what few small businesses we have left up this way (by destroying parking at the curbs).

Haven't seen Garrido in a few years, but my family and I are voting for him. I know his work ethic and his personal ethics and he is not running because it's a 'hobby'. He wants to make a positive change and from what I know of him, he will.

Be jaded about your own generation, not about these guys. These guys (including my dad) lied about their ages to get into the service, so they could fight for their country.

If the old guy caught a bullet, or anything else, back then, he would probably have just kept on moving forward, like people did back then.
You're imposing current standards (ow, ow, I have a hangnail) on people who had much more moxie and drive than people do today.

You're forgetting a few things -

(1) He was 17 in 1945. Like it or not, 17 year olds weren't on the front lines at that point during the war. Even if he lied, he'd still have been in basic, not island hoping in the Pacific, nor occupying Japan.

(2) He was black, and America in 1945 wasn't as integrated as you think nor as were the Armed Forces, all media wishing aside. There were all black flying squadrons, all black infantry, but relegated to a support role in the majority of the cases. Black cooks, truck drivers, etc were the norm.

(3) There is absolutely no mention of military service in the article. Everything posted here is speculation at best.

on the job. It's terrible and not fair to the officers that are working the watch and have to stay the full ten hour shift. We need new leadership
going to file a EEOC grievance
when I asked for tact I was told I did not have enough time and it was only 35 slots that were filled
Fuck off decision makers, wait until WG in patrol heard this I know some heads will roll
