- A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire Chicago area with forecasts now calling for more than 8 inches to fall over much of region starting Saturday night with the potential to “raise havoc” on Super Bowl Sunday.
It’s not the “historic” storm billed for the East Coast earlier this week that dumped more than 2 feet over parts of New England, but it would certainly be the most significant snowfall of the season for the area.
A “storm system developing over the Great Plains will raise havoc across portions of the central U.S. this weekend,” the National Weather Service said Friday.
How will this "raise havoc" on Super Bowl Sunday? They aren't playing the game here, are they?
And it's a weekend, so travel ought to be at a minimum aside from church and Grandma's house.
No garbage pick-up, so Rahm and Charlie should have a full crew on hand to man all the plows, trucks and loaders.
And it's the Midwest in the wintertime, Shouldn't this be on everyone's radar as part of a Winter Action Plan or similar such? You kind of expect snow around these parts during this part of the year.
Personally, we hope it's double the estimates and Rahm loses the election in Bilandic-type fashion.

Arizona Sheriff Known for Toughness Is Allowing Inmates to Watch the Super Bowl
PHOENIX — When the Super Bowl begins Sunday, 70,000 fans will ease into their seats and suites at University of Phoenix Stadium, munch on hot dogs and pizza, and wash them down with soda and beer.
About 15 miles to the south, a few hundred other fans will make do with pink-hued popcorn and sit on metal stools in an enormous room to watch the New England Patriots play the Seattle Seahawks on a flat-panel television mounted to a cinder-block wall.
And according to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who arranged the viewing at the Maricopa County Jail, the inmates should feel lucky to get even that much.
For the first time in years, Arpaio, who likes to be called America’s toughest sheriff, will let the 8,500 inmates watch the Super Bowl on televisions throughout the jail.
Arpaio, who built his reputation on a brass-knuckle approach to law enforcement and a rabid enforcement of immigration laws, got a supporter to pay for 200 pounds of corn kernels so about 10 percent of the inmates could eat popcorn. No butter. No salt. And because the sheriff forces the inmates to sleep on pink sheets and wear pink underwear, the popcorn will be coated with a cherry glaze powder.
Arpaio, 82, insists he is not getting soft. Only inmates who are military veterans or have sentences of a year or less will get to eat the popcorn. And if anyone gets out of line, he is turning off the television, no matter how close the score.
“There’s no constitutional reason I have to let them watch the game,” Arpaio said.
Most days, inmates are allowed to watch only three channels: the Weather Channel, the Food Network and C-Span. Given the confines of the jail and the dining options there, the channels are their own distinct form of torture.
“They don’t like the Food Network because it reminds them of what they can’t get, and C-Span bores them to tears,” Sgt. Gary Miller said. “But last time we had the Super Bowl on, they were hooting and hollering. The guys went berserk.”
Arpaio decided to let the inmates watch the game because he was born in Springfield, Mass., and the Patriots are playing. (No one is certain as to the last time a Super Bowl was seen at the jail, but many recall seeing the 2008 game, which was also played at University of Phoenix Stadium.)
But, Arpaio said, he was not a Patriots fan. In his office he showed off a football signed by Tony Romo, the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, his favorite team. For good measure, he pointed to a newspaper clipping from 1975 that described how Arpaio — when he was a federal narcotics agent in Massachusetts — arrested a Patriots player for selling cocaine.
Some inmates said they were rooting for the Seahawks, in part because they beat the hometown Arizona Cardinals during the regular season. The sheriff, though, is rooting for the Patriots.
Arpaio will not be at the game. Instead, he will watch on television at home with his wife.
“If I went to the game, I would probably have to pay $2,000, and if I took a freebie, it would be national headlines,” he said.
He will be keeping an eye on the jail, too. If anyone gets out of control, the television will be turned off. “You never know what the prisoners will do,” he said. “If we have any problem, we’ll just put them in lockdown.”

The reason his license was suspended was because of too many parking tickets. I asked the officers why they arrested him. Their reply was: "we need the activty and we need to get a minimum of three heads per night". Now if that isn't fucked up then I don't know what is! We used to be part of the 36th but got real pissed off at the designated successor of William J. Banks and they gerrymandered us away from Spasato (Vote for him if you can) to the 29th.

During the winter of 78 I was a PPO. The city was in panic mode to get rid of the snow. We were called up on our day off went to the academy then sent out in the back of squadrols to CTA stations and other locations to shovel snow. I have no doubt that the city will not spare any expense to clear the streets with an election in the future.

Rahm is beatable because Rahm is genuinely an unlikeable guy and people HATE him. They have to know he is beatable and get out and vote.
Repeat after me. Vote for anybody in round one. Rahm gets less than the 50% needed. Then vote for the other guy in the run off no matter who it is. We don't like him and he goes in 4 years. Rahm stays in and we have him for life. Nobody else wants him.

Do they still not plow out the parking spots at the 3 lots at Belmont & Western. I remember the snow piling up then turning into ice humps between the cars. It was also a pain to find an unmarked since they had no system of assigning the same spots. This went on for years. Because of this some cars were just snowed in for the winter.

If it bothers you that much why don't you pay off his unpaid parking tickets and get his license reinstated. some guys do traffic, some guys do dope, some guys lock up prostitutes, some guys do retail thefts. have you ever bonded out a guy for driving on suspended license only to have him say at court it wasn't me driving. try making an in court identification of the defendant a year later without a cb photo. sometimes having the event documented on an arrest report will help you remember six months to a year later.

Springfield has announced they are providing snow plow support for Democratic voters only. Streets and Sanitation employees will check the database to see how each precinct voted. Since Republicans don't want the government to intrude in their lives, Gov. Rauner is going to honor their wishes and save Illinois money. Republicans feel each person should be self-sufficient without the help of the Federal Government, so Gov. Rauner is respecting this as well. Only Democratic precincts will get their streets plowed and salted. Also, government employees who are registered Democrats will be allowed to stay home with a paid "snow day". Registered Republicans are required to report to work and will be docked if they are late.
I'll give Rahm a little credit for not being a fascistic, coddling douchebag like De Blasio. A hands-off mayor who just wants to rake in money is probably better than an activist commie one.

It's illegal to drive with a suspended license asshole. If you can't park legally, don't drive. Simple way to avoid tickets, and arrest.

I don't know the original quote but a snowplow is attached to a truck with a hitch. You need a "hitch" (may not be the proper technical term) the hydraulic lifting device which attaches a snowplow to a garbage or other truck. I don't like Rahm but in this case who is the f.....

Four years ago (Feb 1, 2011 storm) I was 10-99 in a Tahoe. Almost got stuck twice, and it wasn't on a side street either time. The Tahoe's are THE WORST in the snow. It doesn't even have to be a lot of snow. Only a couple of inches and you're going nowhere. Turn off the traction control if you get stuck. Be careful out there. It's not worth it. You can only go as fast as the conditions allow. Stay safe and buckle up!!

12th Mountain Division 3rd watch off to Wilmot and you didn't stop by?
I spent my entire 3rd watch last night either pushing out stuck squads, especially those shitty Tahoes, that were stuck in the snow. It didn't matter if they were on a main street, side street or alley. By the way 2 Tahoes got stuck trying to get into the station lot that was, of course, not plowed. And I appreciate my brothers/sisters in blue who helped push me out a couple times last night too.
News to me about plowed streets.
Thought the response was of "Bilandic" in quality. Did not see a single snow plow truck until about 5 p.m.

How can a city with billions in TIF funds declare bankruptcy? All assets must be disclosed during this procedure and the city would have to show the CAFR which would prove just how much revenue it holds. There's no way it would be excused from financial responsibilities once this information is released.

It is a fucking shame that some officers fuck with decent, hard working people. I work in a busy district where there are a lot of poor people. Why on earth do officers fuck with decent people? Case in point, two days ago two officers long formed a man who was in his full security uniform on his way to work for suspended license. The reason his license was suspended was because of too many parking tickets. I asked the officers why they arrested him. Their reply was: "we need the activty and we need to get a minimum of three heads per night". Now if that isn't fucked up then I don't know what is! A month ago they did the same thing to a 18 year old kid with no prior arrests. Some of us need to think and stop messing with decent folks.
Well if he's suspended he shouldn't be driving. Just cause somebody works doesn't mean he's a good guy and just cause somebody does not work doesn't mean hes a bad guy. There's good guys and bad guys that are workers and non workers.

Snow tires would help a lot. You know, snow tires because there is snow on the ground. All Weather tires suck in the snow and they are not too good in the summer either. Go back to the old way, summer tires and snow tires. In deep snow, use chains.

Up in Rogers Park once, about two blocks from Evanston, I stopped an old black guy driving an old station wagon filled to the brim with tool boxes, junk, bales of newspapers and just plain crap. Expired plates and the guy blew a red light.
He didn't have a tooth in his head. He was old, late 60's, early 70's. Bald. I asked him for his drivers license. He said without missing a beat, "Ain't got one, never had one and ain't never gonna' get one." Obviously insurance was out of the question.
I asked if he could get out of Chicago right away without getting in an accident. He said "sure enough." And off he went. I didn't need the headache of tickets, what to do with the car etc. Of course he had no ID so tickets were a waste. No fingerprinting for traffic then. No towing or impounding then either so he got the break for my convenience.
I figured let Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka and Kenilworth take a crack at him as he made his way north along the north shore.
19th Ward sucks!! Had to shovel/push the FedEx guy out on my block this afternoon.Not 1 fucking plow on our block.
Rahm may suck to some extent, But Wilson would turn Chicago into Cracktown USA.
