Pope Cavorts With Sinner

  • With frustration mounting and the Feb. 24 election fast approaching, Chicago aldermen will do just about anything to get the snow removed from side streets, sidewalks and alleys buried by the Super Bowl Sunday blizzard.

But how about taking help from a corrupt city contractor and thanking him publicly on Facebook?

That’s what Ald. John Pope (10th) has been doing in recent days after Anthony Cappello and Cappello’s disgraced company, Diamond Coring, helped Pope’s Far Southeast Side ward dig out from the storm that buried Chicago in 19 1/2 inches of snow.

[...] Cappello is a corrupt city contractor-turned-FBI informant who’s been barred from doing business with the city after using his wife as front to cash in on $2.3 million in contracts earmarked for minorities and women.

His clout-heavy company, Diamond Coring, actually did the work. Diamond Coring was also responsible for carving the giant X’s into Meigs Field’s only runway on the infamous night in March 2003 when then-Mayor Richard M. Daley sent in the bulldozers under cover of darkness.
There might be a few aldercreatures who take a fall over poor snow removal. We can only hope it goes higher.

Rahm, in all of his mediocrity, actually did a lousy job of snow removal during and after the 5th largest snow storm in Chicago history.....same as he is doing with crime or owing his loyalty to those who gave him 30 million dollars to play with. His loyalty is with big shots, celebrities from Hollywood and financial gurus not the average resident. Yes, there are Alderman who will suffer just like the rest of us. Maybe Rahm will suffer too.

The criminals take better care of the citizens than the elected officials and the government workers.

Welcome to Chicago!

So Tony breaks a few City rules. It sounds like he and his company are the kind that get the job done.

Is Diamond Coring also part of sawing hundreds of miles of useless, dangerous "drainage grooves" down the alleys here?

What a scam.

Ald Mary O'Connor needs a boot out the door. she actually suggested that everybody on a block should clear the street by hand or snowblower in front of their house. Tell that to the 80 year old widows on each side of me and the 93 year old man and his 70 year old son across the street.

We don't see cops on patrol, 1611,1612, and 1613 are always undermanned or unmanned at all, street sweeping is rare and now it takes 5 days to clear a side street.

gee a corupt company that is doing the work to help the people, or a corupt mayor who can't even get the main streets plowed all the way?

Also, since thousands of metered parking spots are still covered in ice and snow, are we going to get billed for them too?

Jeez- Napolitano, enough already w/ the O'Connor shit. I'm voting for 'Hardware Joe' because I am sick of reading this.

If you make the runoff, I'll vote for you. She is in lockstep with the Mayor, so she must pay the price, but you are on every thread and it's getting old.

In the Hegewisch neighborhood where Pope lives, even the alleys are plowed flat, while the other East Side residents are struggling to get any service from the 10th Ward.

Pope is the worst Alderman we have ever had.

And lets not forget that last summer fiasco with him recommending that cop killer to lead a Babe Ruth baseball league!

A moment on Harlem Avenue tonight --

Elmwood Park side -- sidewalk in front of vacant business perfectly cleared and dry, the entire width.

Across street on Chicago side -- sidewalk in front of vacant business = Ice Station Zebra.
