Wait....How Many Plow Passes?

What did Harold call hubris? "Arrogance gone wild:"
  • City Hall’s inspector general is investigating why city plows gave preferential treatment to the block of powerful Ald. Edward Burke during the blizzard that hit Chicago earlier this month.

The development came to light Thursday — just hours after Burke’s block once again got plowed much sooner than neighboring side streets after the overnight snowfall.

A Chicago Sun-Times reporter visited the 14th Ward block Thursday morning where Burke and his wife, Illinois State Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke, live in a 5,600-square-foot, three-story home and found Burke’s street completely clean and salted by 9 a.m.
  • City “Plow Tracker” data collected by clearstreets.org showed Streets and Sanitation crews visited Burke’s lightly trafficked, two-lane street 14 times between 4:46 pm. Wednesday and 7:19 a.m. Thursday. The plows left most nearby side streets untouched, an analysis by clearstreets.org’s Derek Eder found.

The busy four-lane stretch of Pulaski near the Burkes’ home was clogged with brown slush. According to clearstreets.org, plows hit Pulaski there only two more times than the Burkes’ block of 51st Street.
Fourteen passes? And nearby Pulaski, arguably one of the top traveled streets in Chicago got sixteen? What the hell is so important over there by Burke's house on 51st Street? Someone dropping off unmarked envelopes or untaxed cases of booze and Ed's afraid they'll get stuck? He has to know people are watching, reporters are looking, and even the Inspector General is involved due to last month's blizzard.

"Hubris" is a good definition.

There was a plume of lake-effect snow that was smack dab over that one block. It was like a snow globe!

Wow. My side street got ONE blade down, salter on, pass for the first time at two pm today and it was surprising enough that two neighbors commented on it.

We never get a plow pass til at least two days after a big snowfall. Maybe Rahm realized he doesn't want to become a Bilandic on 07 April.

This personal snow removal service for Burke is just plain offensive.

Three words "Supreme Court Justice" one of the most important positions in the whole state. It's cheaper to keep the street clear for instant use by the Justice than to have to send a helicopter for her because she could not get out of her driveway.

14 passes? Amazing!

The plows in our town make two passes, one each way with a wing plow down; and the entire street is cleared. Curb to curb!

If it is really deep, they don't use a wing plow and make six or so passes.

Then again they use real snow removal equipment, not a garbage truck with a half-assed plow.

This whole plow tracker is a fucking waste of time. I looked today and every truck was on the west side and south side. What's about the NW side or MG or Beverly where all the city workers reside, And have to come to work every day....and WHO HAVE jOBS and VOTE live in Chicago Remember mayor.... West side convicted felons can't get you elected.....nor do they care. Willie Wilson got 10 percent??? Kill me now.

Snowstorm before this.... Logan Square had THREE passes from a city snow plow in less than 90 minutes. Perfectly clean streets for an "important" ward. Especially at election time.

Our humble side street was so clear, we could have hosted a volleyball game between Schubert and Wrightwood... and had room for a grill and two kegs. Loved the convenience but not impressed by the political ass-kissery

Either Rahm was simply playing the Sheeple or Eddie doesn't give a shit what Rahm says.

Obviously the GPS devices on the 14th Ward snow plows need to be disabled!!
Also, the IG without budget or teeth is investigating? I'm sure Eddie is quaking in his Irish tweed cap.
The IG better be careful or Eddie will have him tied to the front of one of the plows

Maybe ed needs to get rid of the crown vic and get a tank like Emanuel has a 4WD Tahoe with all the police equipment, then it would not matter Ed could keep moving! But then again since Chuy will be mayor soon rahm could just give a Tahoe from the "red light runner" fleet!

It doesn't matter!!! Wink wink that is the chicago way at its worst!! Even if people are watching, even if you get called out, even if you are being open and notorious about your entitled behavior--why stop? No one is going to do shit about it as long as you have the political clout behind you. And the Burkes ARE the political clout!! Aside from perhaps the Madigans and Daleys there is no heavier clout than the Burkes. It's almost a challenge. 200 years from now when there's a republican mayor and the city is actually functioning properly there will be a museum full of this shit where people will roam the halls in amazement. Of course such a museum will take decades to build and require space the size of Lake Michigan to accommodate the artifacts! This city is one big fucking joke...glad I'm out of here in a year!

If that Sun-Times reporter is reading this, wander over to 1807 N Honore and see if that area isn't also clear of snow. It might be the area of a certain City of Chicago Chief Financial Officer who might answer to the name "Lois."

She likes to get her way with the tried and true "Don't you know who I am" routine. The story is she demanded the same snow clearing treatment as Ed Burke. And got it.

Burke seems to pretty much stay inside unless some kid's homework blows onto his lawn -- then he's out there with his .38.

It was funnier a couple years ago when the cameras caught Sandy Jackson up in the cab of the plow going up and down her street. Never stopped smiling,. She claimed to be "reviewing, directing, coordinating, facilitating, and monitoralyzing the quality of city services that are in the process of being deliveratated to residents."

Something like that.

Well I live up on the Northwest side and during our big snowstorm the snow tracker app was not working, this was done because they did not hit the sidestreets for 3 days, myself and my neighbors cleared the spots in front of our homes and also the street, but how miracles change things, yesterdays 4 -6 inch storm brought the plows down my block 2 times in 7 hours, why, is it election time or something, what a joke joke !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a few weeks the snow will be gone, and the process will begin again next winter.

Not a chance. The IG ran out of money last year. Burke runs the Finance Committee which cuts checks. Who is going to cry uncle first, Burke or the IG? Maybe this year the IG runs out of money sooner. Of all the things Burke could get nailed for, plowing the snow on his own block isn't one of them.

Anyone who thinks this is the nail in Burkes coffin is softer than puppy shit. Snow will be gone in a few weeks and the same thing will happen next year. My guess is Burke forgot about this if he even ever thought about it.

Stop ripping on the southeast and west sides getting the best plow service. Who cares if city workers have to go to work and pay taxes to give to the aforementioned residents. They need to be able to drive from their homesteads in order to spend that unearned money on lottery scratch-offs, late night fast food joints and 24 hour gas stations that serve cheap booze. This type of economic stimulus couldn't occur if their streets weren't plowed. Don't forget that Link & Snap card fraud wouldn't be as profitable for the ghetto front stores either. Sure is nice to live the entitled life, right Rahm & Barry?

You think the weather does not have far reaching effects? Read this:
---

Not since Lena Baker, an African-American convicted of murder and pardoned decades later, has Georgia executed a woman. The state was scheduled to snap that 70-year streak Wednesday before Kelly Renee Gissendaner's execution was postponed.

Just hours before the 47-year-old was scheduled to die by lethal injection at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison in Jackson, the Georgia Department of Corrections announced it had postponed the execution until Monday "due to weather and associated scheduling issues," department spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan said in an email.

Gissendaner was convicted in a February 1997 murder plot that targeted her husband in suburban Atlanta.

She was romantically involved with Gregory Owen and conspired with the 43-year-old to have her husband, Douglas Gissendaner, killed, according to court testimony. Owen wanted Kelly Gissendaner to file for a divorce, but she was concerned that her husband would "not leave her alone if she simply divorced him," court documents said.

Owen confessed to the killing and implicated Kelly Gissendaner, who was arrested the next day and charged.

The Gissendaners had already divorced once, in 1993, and they remarried in 1995.
---

There are some lessons to be learned here.
--schedule executions for summer or spring or fall
--divorce them once, live with it. There is nothing as reprehensible as a dog that returns to it's own vomit
--two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead
--You want someone dead, old age will do the job for you.
