Gee, We Wonder Why

Somebody in the media finally noticed what the surveys and moving companies have been telling everyone for a few years now:
  • In a state with a massive budget deficit, it’s disturbing news: For the first time since the late-1980s, the population of Illinois is shrinking.

CBS 2 [...] takes a look at what’s luring people away.

Weather, work and money.  Those are three of the biggest reasons people are leaving.

According to the Illinois Policy Institute’s Michael Lucci, some 95,000 people moved to other states last year.

“We actually had more people leave Illinois than were born in Illinois,” he says.
Crappy job market, shitty political situation, taxes out the ass, government interference up the ass, crushing debt. There's five quick reasons right there.

I had hoped you'd have a thread on the FOP not endorsing in the mayoral race so I could post this there. I'm not going to post it in the Ferguson thread as that's too serious an issue.

I just want to throw out some questions about FOP endorsements as I'm not a cop.

How the hell did the FOP endorse an aldermanic candidate who aligns herself with Copwatch and various other police haters AND flip flops on pension issues?

Here's the question and her answer on the IVI/IPO questionnaire she filled out.

What measures will you vote for to reform the city pension plan and ensure its solvency?

A pension is a promise. The courts have been clear that pension benefits offered to existing workers cannot be diminished. All options need to be on the table to ensure we dedicate proper funding to the mismanaged City pension funds and protect vulnerable retirees on a fixed income. I have discussed potential revenue-raising options above. I also believe we need help from the State to fund teacher pensions.

Then on the Sun Times questionnaire she said the opposite.

Do you support restructuring the pension systems, inevitably reducing benefits, to put the funds on sound financial footing?

Yes or No: A qualified yes.

Click the links if you choose to.

I support her opponent so don't trust me alone....VERIFY.

She also did a similar flip flop on casino gambling.

If you want more commentary on the support from the cop haters check out the Uptown Update Facebook page.

I can't figure out why the hell FOP endorsed her. Some board member have a family member working at her law firm?

Did she fill out a questionnaire and give different answers? Because I have to believe she didn't give the same pension answer she gave the Sun Times to the FOP. If I worked for decades and didn't pay into social security I sure as hell would want my pension to be paid as promised. Then I'm selfish that way.

And speaking of the media...

Ain't it funny how the Fibune is brow-beating Garcia to hurry up and outline his financial plan? (so Rahm and his merry band of thieves and syncopants can cherry pick)

Hmmm...
Why aren't they waving the shovel full of live coals under
the metal folding chair the incumbent is sitting in?

Make it hot for everybody...
Not just the challenger.

You whores.

I wonder if these STUPID liberal politicians will ever figure out WHY people would leave? First off, the weather in Illinois is shit. Second, the taxes are spiking and third, the underclass of criminals make living here dangerous.

Such a deal! The criminals can mug and beat you, the politicians seize your money, it's for The Children! You get frozen and snowed on in winter, in the spring, the damn place floods and the 6 week long summer is hot and humid. These idiots act like this is San Diego or Honolulu.

These stupid assholes in Cook County are killing the state. Keep voting like a progressive and wonder where the hell the taxpayers went.

How does a State go broke? Like the saying goes, Slowly, then All at Once.

Weather and savage commutes are the two biggest things chasing people out. Snow, ice, non-stop road construction, and traffic cameras everywhere have made the metro area a pain in the ass. Old people aren't sticking around anymore if they can afford to go.

There is also a trend of culturally conservative, middle-aged people taking there families out of here because they don't want to raise them in a state that is hostile to their values. This brings us back to the first point. If the grand kids aren't here anymore, no reason for gramps to stay when he can be playing shuffle board in FL.

Young college grads are still coming here from surrounding states because the jobs for them are still in Chicago.

Why did it take 20 years to shut down "Cease Fire" ? This benevolent group of young people have been taking my tax $$ for 2 decades to reduce the shootings, killings and criminal activities in poor communities. Ummmmm it took 20 YEARS to figure out this group was ineffective? Wasting my hard earned $$$ is why I'll be leaving as soon as I retire. Sunny AZ I'll be with you in 10 short years!

I asked 12 Police Officers I work with do they plan on stay in Chicago when they retire all said NO. Only two said they would stay and live in Illinois.. The two stated they wanted to move away from Cook County.

This is so sad..... my Grandparents on both sides, Father, and Mother were all born in Chicago and stayed here until their death. However I plan on moving too... far away to another state. where one can live with less restrictions.

OLD RETIRED GUY HERE AGAIN, !!!!!!
You know I hear and read about all the people leaving Illinois, and Chicago all the time. I am sure its true. I mean you can't argue with the stats, right ? I just wonder why the expressways, are always filled to the max. In and out of the City, Day and Night. Last Night I took a walk down Milwaukee Ave. All The Restaurants filled, as were the saloons. Have to wait in line to get into any up scale restaurant in the city. They are currently rehabing a house on my block, and are going to market it in the 4 hundred thousand range. My question is WHAT AM I MISSING ?
I don'r see people leaving. In fact I see the northwest side of Chicago much more crowded than it was years ago.

Shitty Politics--> As Bad or worse than Chicago, home of DeBalsio and the Clintons. Right up their alley.

Crappy Job Market--> Not for them, plenty of six figure speaking engagements and a chance for BHO to write his next books, "How I Got My Nobel Prize by Doing Nothing" or "The Ultimate Folly of Affirmative Action" and the sure blockbuster, "How I Ruined America".

Then rahm "red light what red light", gets in office and the bond rating tanks numerous times, when is enough enough? When good people leave, and the bottom feeders stay! Really hoping and praying for "change we can believe in" go Chuy if in 4 years he is no good we can vote him out, if rahm gets in may God help us all! what his pal obama has done to destroy this country rahm is fast at work destroying this city, and of course putting billions of tax payers money in his "private piggy bank" TIF (tax increment financing) accounts! We know he has billions secure in there, release the cash rahm stop lying about how high real estate taxes will go, rein in the free programs there ya go rahm that's how it is done!

A politician serves one term and gets a pension. Ask what pension Richie Daley is getting and what will Rahm Emanuel get?

What you are missing is that people are leaving Illinois, not Chicago, at least at the same rate. You are right, try to get a reservation at a top restaurant, a ticket for a sporting event or new play. And finally you would think traffic congestion would be reduced with all the people leaving.
