Rebuilding Year

  • The Chicago Bears are going to be making some serious changes to their roster as free agency begins Tuesday, but one position they appear set at is quarterback as reports are circulating that the team plans to retain Jay Cutler for the 2015 season.
We meant great news for oddsmakers.

Looks like the Pack will take the Division again. And the Bears will end up in the cellar.

It's going to be a while before this team is competitive again. They need too many spots filled, on both sides of the ball. Not something that can be fixed over a season or two. Maybe Chicago baseball will be interesting enough to take us from late August to early October, when the Blackhawks start.

Da Bears are a great team and NFL powerhouse. Cutler is one of the NFL's great quarterbacks. We are looking to the Bears for a highly successful year and expect awesome things from Cutler. Go Bears, Chicago is proud of you.

Fuck the Bears!

Besides my normal emphatic statement above, I actually think they made a good move with Fox.

Still, fuck em!

In the 2005 NFL draft the Bears with the #4 pick selected Cedric Benson.

They passed on Aaron Rodgers.

Ha-ha.

Jay Cutler is the greatest QB in the NFL. Both lines are solid and both the receivers and defenders are very good. Don't trade or replace anyone. You have a winning team as it is.

I have no idea where this misguided hope comes from, that somehow by playing Jay Cutler, he's going to miraculously start playing NFL-level football simply because he was given the chance. This guy sucks, he will always suck. Any team accomplishment is in SPITE of Jay Cutler, and yet somewhere someone loves him, because he keeps coming back. Whoever his benefactor is should be sent to pasture along with Jay. Mediocrity indeed.

The bears have fallen so far that to bring them back this year would be a miracle on lake shore drive.

Jay Cutler,s contract is so huge that the Bears cannot swallow it.

Bringing back Jimmy Clausen was the best they could do. Jay had his best year with Clausen as a backup. They are anticipating Jay not lasting the season. At least they are heading in the right direction.

7-9...... it's gonna be another painful season to endure.
It's looking like we're stuck with the petulant, overpaid, underperforming Cutler.

There never was any real possibility of the Bears moving Cutler.

Contract was too large. No one would take it on as it would hamper their cap space. Bears couldn't cut him without hobbling themselves for a few years with dead cap money.

The market for free-agent QB's was dry and barren.

Nothing major coming out in the draft. Just 2 that look decent but will need time and effort to develop. QB development is something the Bears have never been good at.

If the Bears were to get rid of Cutler, they would need to find a replacement. I just do not see a viable replacement. That is just the way it is with NFL QBs. There are only a handful of really good QBs at any one time in the league and the teams that do not have a really good QB have to make do with whatever they can find.

I don't think Cutler is ever going to be a top shelf NFL QB, but he is probably in the top 50% of starting QBs.

OT - Speaking of rebuilding ... Tony Riccio is now Chief of OCD & Gene Roy was promoted to deputy chief of Detectives. Great ... and gutsy move putting Riccio in Roti's spot. Especially before the election.

When your defense gives up 50 points, blame the quarterback.

Cutler may not be the answer, but I'd like to see him with this offense backed by an average defense.

The Bears did have the #2 offense in the NFL in 2013. The defense has looked confused the past two years without Urlacher calling the defensive signals.

Unless the Bears can find a hidden QB treasure in the 3rd through 6th round like a Tom Brady or Russell Wilson, they have no choice but to play Cutler and hope for the best. There's nobody on the free agent market, and Cutler is un-tradable because of his contract and performance. Giving Marshall to the Jets for a 5th round pick is something the Bears will regret.
