For the second time this year, no openings posted for movement. McCarthy is afraid everyone will bid out of 005 we suppose, exposing the failures of the two-shift solution.

That's funny, so districts at full manpower then ,but oh look time restrictions for st paddy's day !! Gotta make sure there's enough hands to deal with the roving hordes of drunkards !!! And why any restrictions on 1st watch on the 14th !!! , the bars aren't even supposed to be serving before check off wtf !!!
There wouldn't be any failures if we had enough officers to man three shifts.
These dirty fucks are sandbagging on manpower to keep people from fleeing these bad districts with bad supervision...
It's bad enough dealing with assholes outside the station doors who mean you no good.
But when similar such assholes are within the Police organization, who the fuck do you turn to for relief?
Some OLD old-timers suggest Coppers bypassing FOP and throwing in with a P.I. firm to "get all up" in a bad supervisor's business when they violate rules, regs, general orders and the law in the guise of being a "supervisor."
Especially when the department refuses to take appropriate action to check these outrages.
Walk that shit up the chain of command and see who has the nerve to still bluster about "Right or wrong, I back my supervisors against you Coppers any day and any time."
Of course... When shit gets hot, m/fers want to invite you in the office and talk real sweet like...
"Hey... You guys got time on and you know how the GAME is played. Nuttin' personal. Right?"
(Watch Secretary was a rat who regularly raided the outgoing mail bag... If your to-from up the chain of command is a hot one, you should hand carry it to H/Q... Bids and PAR forms used to magically disappear too.)
It is smart, no changes mean no waves. And Rahm is about to be swamped by any but the smallest wave.
Been pondering bidding from a slower district back to a busier one. Are there any good Districts to work nowadays or is this job just toxic everywhere you turn? The hardest part of the day is just getting out of the damn roll call and away from the building, away from all the festering little smack talkers and rumor stirrers who seem to have nothing better to do. Throw in a handful of incompetent bosses and it wears on the soul over time.

Why would the Union agree to pilot this after negotiations? Shouldn't this have been part of negotiations if it is what McCarthy wants. Just saying!!
The two shift deal will not be a failure no matter what you police officers say. They will eliminate officer, supervisor and management positions on the books. So it will be a success.
It does not matter to them that 10 and a half hours is too long, an so, dangerous to the officer. It does not matter that you will not have any interaction with you family for those days when you add drive time and prep for work. It does not matter that a tired and irritated officer will be a liability to the city and will not serve the taxpayer well. It only matter that it will look good.
They will never admit the mistakes (look at Weis and McCarthy - never an admission that they are both failures). Once enacted, like Obamacare, it will never go away.
I can't get out of this place (005), and away from this shitty 10 hour day fast enough.

Of course the two shift solution is a failure. It's riddled with flaws and employee discontent. The department and city will never admit that.
Napolean and McNumbnuts couldn't care less about its problems nor the employee unhappiness. Afterall it's all about them and what they want.
The city and department has every intent on shoving this down our throats citywide next year.
Garcia beating Rahm could very well derail this though cause you know damn well McNumbnuts will get his walking papers if his puppet master Rahm loses.

Yea keep pimping form Rahm and Mcarthy on the 10.5 hr day which eliminates over 2,000 police officer positions and puts 60% of patrol on midnights. If you got under 18 yrs your on midnights forever with this new schedule. But hey what do I know I only have 3yrs 11 months and 3 days to max out but who's counting. Keep listening to fop, no wait you can't hear them because they are completely silent on everything. You will all soon realize how vital seniority is on this job when your working 2000-0630 hrs 5 days a week with no family life, no side work, no sleep, and that 10.5 hour day turns into a 13 hr day with the commute . Trying to drive anywhere in this city at 0630-0700 hrs is Ian exercise i futility. But hey enjoy those extra days off , no wait you'll be sleeping ....
005 used to be a great place to work....Until.......
The Dept and the FOP are f'ing over the guys in 005 that desperately want out of the Sh!t-a$$ 10 hour schedule.

I was going to say that anyone I have talked to from 005 have only good things to say about it
(OT) lets talk important issue like PENSIONS! Which is job #1 friend works for the assessor the scare mangers are talking a huge increase the truth is if the real estate taxes are raised the average would be $575.00 more a year on a $300,000 dollar home an increase but not as bad as they threatened! Plus we still get free garbage pick up and water that is 3X less than suburbs pay so there you have it, if the city would of kept up the payments we would of been 100% funded! Daley and his crime family needs to be indicted for all the criminal acts pathetic!
You will take years off your life working a 10hr tour of duty! Enjoy those extra 36 days....

You are so wrong, I work in 005 and it is terrible. Some People on days hate it because there's is only 5 people on the street @ 0600am and the four hour swing in start times ie; sometimes 0900 and 0530...The former afternoon crew absolutely hates it because now they are on midnites, and some people on midnites hate it because they are forced to start @ 1830pm...The only real assholes that like it are dicks like you who have no skin in the game. You are probably on days and the only sacrifice you have made is that you stay 2 hours longer. Think about it people 2 shifts it sucks, zero quality of life on the days you are working the late shift. The big bad Commander has the ability to adjust are hours but he refuses because activity is down 50%...the coldest February in Chicago History and this merit clown is angry because activity is down? lol gotta love it!

Late 70's early 80's was fun as I was told at Watch Party's(google it young bucks).Mid-Late 80's a lot of good Coppers bailed out.Got lucky and was able to work with a lot of them in 004.

You are so wrong, I work in 005 and it is terrible. Ask anyone that has been in 005 for a while and they will tell you that this guy is the best commander we have had in years. Please bid out to 3 or 6 next time there are openings. If you even have enough time to get there. Then let me know how that works out for you.

The officers in 005 have been told numerous times by our bosses
that the Commander has the authority to change the hours to make this schedule work. The Commander has made it no secret that he will not change the hours due to low activity. The first and the sixteenth, I am going get paid either way,

Who gives a fuck if a bitch with 23 seconds on the job is mad they have to work "midnights?" A lot of people have had to work for quite a few years to get off midnights. Now a bunch of fetuses can't fathom doing it and it supposed to be a problem???? Get Fucked.
I work in 005 and honestly I don't think its too bad, granted I don't have kids I have to come home to everyday. But in the grand scheme of things the hours we work are not healthy, for the individual working and the coppers family. On the days we work our entire day is basically dominated by the job. If you don't sleep enough you come to work miserable, if you sleep too late there's not enough time in the day to do much. People from the outside looking in might say we have it great that we get 36 extra days off a year but think about it, we're working 52.5 hours a week for 4 straight weeks, those are long hours. The time off is great don't get me wrong but the weeks are horribly long. I say make this a one and done deal for this year.

Ten hour shifts with three watches works! Two watches does not. A 24 hour municipal police dept can't work well with only two shifts like that thst have shitty start and end times.
I work 4- 10hour shifts with a set three days off schedule.
We are either off thurs,fri,sat or sun,mon,tues.
Commander larry Watson was asked @ compstat how the 10 hour days r going and he flat out lied and said everybody loves them and the hours...what a sell out, good luck in 007. I know 6 sgts who want to leave plus a shitload of cops...the 10 hour day must be a done deal thanks flop! coming soon to a district near you!!!
