Rahm Finished?
Missed this one right after the election - from Chicago Magazine:
- It’s the day after Election Day, and most of the analysis undoubtedly will center on what exactly happened that forced Rahm Emanuel into a runoff election against Jesus “Chuy” Garcia on April 7. And while that may be the biggest headline, one other shade to this year’s municipal elections is just how much the Chicago Teachers Union flexed its muscle.
This morning I called Jesse Sharkey, the 45-year-old former high school teacher who took over as head of the CTU when Karen Lewis was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last fall. (She has since returned to work.) For more on who Sharkey is and what drives him, read my interview with him from last November (part 1 here, part 2 here).
Sharkey was on his way to work and tired—out late at Garcia’s victory party—but exulting in Garcia’s victory, not to mention the slew of victories (or at least forced runoffs) of CTU-backed aldermanic candidates. Garcia will be the next mayor, Sharkey says, adding that politics in Chicago has changed forever.
It's a pretty good article and hopefully, prophetic.

I am a CPD member. If "Chuy" is elected Chicago has De Blasio (New York) all over again. Rahm is the lesser of two evils! I would vote none of the above, if I had that option. Stay safe - and be well.
Time to get rid of some CLOUT in Chicago.

I have been an election judge for years. I know my neighbors. NOT ONE CTU MEMBER OR CPS EMPLOYEE in my precinct came out to vote or voted early or voted absentee. Only one cop, no cops family members came out to vote.

I received 5 phone calls at the house yesterday every couple hours from 312 647 2906. Caller ID shows "Student Loan Re". Phone call was from Rahm Emanuel's campaign. My wife was none to pleased after dealing with all the nuisance telemarketing calls everyday. What a slimy weasel Rahm is. Count two more votes from one household for Garcia.
If Rahm loses this one, he is toast....not even a bagel.
Chicago's middle class is caught between a rock and a hard place, between Rahm looking out for his 1% cronies and Marxists Lewis, Sharkey and Garcia covering the other end of the spectrum. I worry they'll be raising a lot of taxes, and driving away businesses and employers, given the opportunity, but at least they won't be hostile and bullying like Rahm, nor (hopefully) pocketing and giving away as much. Garcia, at least, is listening to what people want, or don't want.

I am retired CPD and my wife continues to teach CPS. Jesse is a remarkable man; humble and kind, a genuine person, and when you meet him, you would never think for a moment he had access to power. He taught with my wife at Senn and when the Lewis faction took over the Union, we attended a fund raiser at Jesse's modest home in Rogers Park. The man is amazing.Totally the opposite of Rahm and possibly the force that will end Rahm's Evil Political Ambitions."G"

He SAID he wouldn't take a salary or a pension. But, he also said a lot of other things that turned out not to be true.
It is nice to see all of the Rahm trolls surfacing all over the blogs. It is also hilarious to see posts damning Garcia as a Communist when Rahm's top media advisor is Axelrod (a genuine Red Diaper baby).
The key difference is that Rahm and his leftist pals see themselves as the "Vanguard of the Proletariat." They eat caviar while you subsist on oatmeal. They prosper while you slave.
Before the Machine was perfected, Chicago used to have mayoral elections in which different candidates came and went. Lifetime tenure and continuity have not made for good management. If Garcia disappoints as mayor, send him packing in 2019. Rahm is going to screw everyone over if he is reelected. He is a vengeful and arrogant person. How much vitriol will he expend after his humiliation in February? Wipe the slate clean in April -- it will be hell if Rahm returns to office. Think of the service you will be performing for the USA if Chicago derails Emanuel's national ambitions too!

Rahm's commercial should win an industry award for best acting and best direction. It's a fake, just like Emanuel and Rauner's so-called 'FEUD'.
These two didn't become enemies overnight and they're united in PLAYING US, trying to make the citizens buy into this bankruptcy thing.
They hope we'll forget about the billion or two in the TIF accounts. We won't, no matter how many times Rauner rattles the saber and winks at Emanuel when he thinks we don't see it.
Rahm is a continuation of the Daley machine. Since I last posted, Commissioner Choi and Garry McCarthy have been aggressively trying to figure out who I am for outing the manipulation of the lieutenant's test, so I'm going to be vague. From what I have heard, the sergeant's union lawsuit can be delayed by the City until after the election-and that's all DHR and the mayor's people want. No more media about this, and once the mayor is safely re-elected, a big FU to all of you who spent money on prep classes, scheduled vacations, etc because unless the lawsuit prevails, the test will be re-opened and the reading list completely changed. I am hearing it's all because your Bob Tracey has a merit Sergeant Frausto as his admin sergeant and that he has taken a very personal interest in shepherding her into an exempt position. We did the paperwork for his last admin sergeant Karen Conway who he succeeded in giving a gold star to as head of R&D without even being a lieutenant, so I don't see why he doesn't just make her but it must be for appearances. It's pretty clear here that if you are a white female who works for Bob Tracey, you are golden. I hope you guys don't let the issue die, because it all comes down to the amount of pressure put on the mayor before the election. Amy Rule (allegedly, wink - wink) didn't want to move back to Chicago from D.C. and didn't want to take the kids out of their schools. She has no interest in what Rahm is doing and pretty obviously has no interest in what this city is doing. I received 5 phone calls at the house yesterday every couple hours from 312 647 2906. Caller ID shows "Student Loan Re". Phone call was from Rahm Emanuel's campaign. My wife was none to pleased after dealing with all the nuisance telemarketing calls everyday. What a slimy weasel Rahm is. Count two more votes from one household for Garcia.

I've been getting those, but they are calling a relative's # (we live in condos in a two flat)and when she asked if she could say who she was voting for, the woman said, no, they had to know who I was voting for. Do you think they are calling cop's specifically and tracking how we are voting?
SCC, perhaps you should poll and see how many of us have gotten calls from this polling firm disguised as a student loan company.
Re: that newer Rahm commercial showing the 'warm & fuzzy' Emanuel - I laugh when that show that glass. It's probably a $5,000 crystal filled with some $150,000 a bottle white wine. (None for you, peasants!)

Rahm sucks, we all know that but if you ever want to see your pension you need to consider voting for him. Does anyone think Chewy is going to save our pensions? Does anyone think that in four years there will even be a pension? Chewy will get his money, play big dealer and advertise Sanctuary City and then declare the city bankrupt. Don't get me wrong, Rahm might do the same but it is a sure thing with Chewy. Screw Daley, I at least want the possibility to collect my pension.

Shouldn't have any effect at all. Vote for the candidate, not the has-been guy standing in the background, hoping to hang on the successful candidate's coattails.

You sound paranoid. Election is a few weeks off and the candidadates have this conspiracy to see how the police vote all 10000 of us and which most of this blog say don't vote anyway.. I think they have more important problems
