Why can't we seek out another lodge combine with Milwaukee, Boston, New York? Similar sized city, same problems and systems? Isn't there enough corruption ?

Too much college. Thinking this will be a secret he should be throwing the board under the bus quickly and assume no part of this play at being politically astute.
My prediction, i go to every meeting:
Wont be brought up to the Board for a vote.
Deano will settle with Shields behind closed doors and take a cut from the insurance settlement.
With less than a hundred coppers at meetings, it will not gain traction.
It was brought up at meetings already and deano changed subject (typical deano).
Instead of resigning, how about having the State unseat dean?

Shields was suspended with pay. He doesnt have a case.
Any and all monies collected by Shields in this case should be donated to a worthy cause in the name of the one year of retro that he stupidly forgot to secure.
You'd be a fool to think that anyone will resign. Dean needs to get his kid promoted first.
In fairness to Dean, he wasn't in office when this fiasco happened. Remember, follow the emails from the previous FOP Board members. There were members who plotted against Shields to improve their chances of taking over the FOP. Unfortunately they did this at the expense of the entire membership. It's ALL laid out in email exchanges that were located in the computer audit. They can't deny their actions. I see several high profile members being kicked out of the union in the near future. The FOP should then sue them for damages. I'm asking all members to call FOP and demand the truth from Dean. This is your union and Dean works for YOU!
They are doing what they always do. Screwing us over. You can take the whole bunch of them and just dump them. I would rather get an insurance policy to cover myself. At least the insurance policy will be in black and white and can't stab me in the back. As far as legal. I don't do anything but answer my calls. FOP has made my stomach sour from day 1.
My source says there is evidence on the computers that mark and bill and the others knew about the letter needing to be sent and gave shields bad advice. Secondly there is vast evidence that mark and bill participated actively in conspiracy with ted street to discredit Mike and screw him with all these false charges to bring up against him look at who filed charges against shields. All had links to mark and bill. So it's really hard to be fop president when your under attack from the people in your own organization and then face off. Th is planning starts a few on the after shields took over.
It does not matter how these crooks run the FOP or steal money. Why?...because no one will be held accountable as usual!!

Lets not forget Dean was tight with Mike Shields during the election. Mike's election committee was working overtime to help Dean. Mike's brother Dan was on a separate ticket supporting Dean. There was a settlement between the two to get Dean elected. Donahue wasn't even working inside when all this took place. Lets see the proof show us the e-mails. We won't see any because there aren't any. If there was e-mails Mike wouldn't settle, he would take it to court.
We got what we elected! We have merit bosses and a Merit Fop president. Dean was merit promoted to Gang Specialist and then hit disability with his softball knee injuries. What a joke!

Dan Herbert was Mike Shields lead attorney . He paid for his election mailers and did the same for Tom McDonagh and later for Dean Angelo Sr. Herbert was fired after his drunken escapade and over charging our union . Now why is he back ? Simple he's best friends with Mcdonagh and went to school with Kevin Kilmer !!

Lodge 7 is going to make a settlement with Mike. There will be a signed non-disclosure agreement so we won't know exactly how much Mike will be given. This is going to happen, not because Mike was wronged, it is going to happen because Mike and Dean Jr are friends. Jr always voted in Mike's favor regardless of any stupid decisions. After Sr was elected, Jr wanted Mike to go back to the FOP as a full time employee. Sr, to his credit, realized this was a bad idea. Since they couldn't help their guy with a full time job, they are going to give Mike a HUGE cash payout.

Let's remember dean inherited this problem from the last board who some of you reelected. None of the charges shields was found guilty of in the end. The state lodge hired a computer expert to restore emails on their computers to investigate their past president for wrong doing. So state opened Pandora's box and now everyone is left to deal. If dean doesn't settle, it goes to trial or arbitration where much more can be aired out leaving the lodge on the hook for a bigger settlement and huge embarrassment that Rahm will enjoy. The retro pay comments and 10 hr day coments are trying to lead everyone off topic. The topic should focus on what did mark and bill did with ted street? Shields can be considered to be covered under whistle blower acts which those lawsuits can cost lodges not 500,000 but millions of dollars.

There is no problem with Chicago Fop Lodge, the issue lies with the State FOP lodge violating his due process, orchestrated by Kevin Graham and Ted Street, Mark Donahue and Bill Dougherty. Shields was brought up on charges leveled by his own lodge within the lodge 7 bylaws and constitution and was suspended from his position pending a disciplinary hearing within his Lodge 7 with FULL PAY AND BENEFITS. Shields decided not to fight the Chicago charges and was sanctioned which included removing him from office.
HAHA. Shields is not suing for being tossed out. He is suing claiming he is a whistleblower who blew the whistle on FOP for secretly agreeing with the city on our contratcs. He wrote a letter to the Inspector General about it. What does their investigation show? Did they do one? Is Shields really a Whustleblower? Why would anyone give him a dollar?
Don't worry someone will likely do a FOIA to see if this MOU even exists, probably MW from insidethechi.

Remember the details of what happened. Shields couldn't go to his own board to ask for funds to investigate because city wide guys would have killed it. Shields calls for investigation from an outside agency. Rahm and his feds buddies killed it. Rahm ' s city inspector general had already run out of his budget. So he's useless. So then what happens the evil duo mark and bill panic because there name is all over it and last negotiations. So they call a press conference not raise charges accusing Mike and moving to remove before due process. They new the charges would not be dealt with in time and state lodge charges would block him from running again. By the way Doherty was talking to close associate after first six months discussing how he was going to run for president. Since Mike shields wasn't on their program, he had to be taken out. Then nothing needs to change.
Deano is just abiding by his 'Sweetheart Deal' with Mike Shields. Little Mikey will get his payoff and keep his yapper shut about past & present corruption in the FOP 7 Lodge. Mikey does not want his dirty laundry and abject stupidity to see the light of day either.

I'm a fireman, but from a mostly cop family. We have some problems with our union, CFFU Local 2, but at the end of the day we realize that our union has for the most part our best interests at heart.
That said your FOP sucks.
On the fire side we have very few opportunities for post retirement employment with local government beside the handful of exempts who always seem to end up at the CTA.
You cops on the other hand can if "played" right always wind up at the County with another pension after 10 short years.
The temptation to sell you out is just to great apparently.

10-hour days doing this job are a recipe for disaster. Decision-making ability impaired due to fatigue, etc. Bad move. Just like the 6th workday was totally unproductive.
As members, can we demand and actually obtain an independent Investgator / auditor, to look into our Union's dealings, via a motion at the next meeting. After all, It's our union and our funds.
Any legal expert out there that can advise on the appropriate course of action.

Shields didn't even put his petition in to run (sound familiar?). Why would we pay him if he didn't put his petition in to run. It was his hand picked committee that was the election committee. They would have the final say. Dean can't be that stupid.
