Hot Summer on Tap?
- Americans are bracing for a summer of racial disturbances around the country, such as those that have wracked Baltimore, with African Americans and whites deeply divided about why the urban violence has occurred, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll has found.
A resounding 96% of adults surveyed said it was likely there would be additional racial disturbances this summer, a signal that Americans believe Baltimore’s recent problems aren’t a local phenomenon but instead are symptomatic of broader national problems.
When asked to explain recent events in Baltimore and other cities that have seen confrontations between police and members of the African-American community, blacks and whites viewed the situation differently.
The story isn't in some fringe publication - it's the Wall Street Journal - about as mainstream as you can get. Of course, the discrepancies among the respondents about who's to blame are pretty much like you'd expect. Go read it all and make sure you polish up the riot equipment.

Yeah that sounds good and all, but I wonder if the riots in Seattle, Oakland, New Hampshire, etc. count? I mean, if we count how many riots have happened since last summer, blacks have had... Two? Whites have had at last count, 5(possibly 4). Baltimore was mentioned, the *pending riots to come have been mentioned, but Seattle wasn't. pumpkinfest wasn't. Michigan State wasnt. I wonder why?

A little off topic but I wanna rant on the shit I saw during the NFL detail. How the f*ck does the city get away making brand new recruits/ppo's working from 0700 to 2330 for four days straight? I just got off my status and I could not help but feel bad for these guys! A lot of them were not getting lunches either so me and some of the guys were going to different post and telling to go get something to eat. White shirts were so unorganized, one is telling you one thing while the other is telling you another. They took all this manpower from other districts and had us doing shit. On the last day we sat for over an hour at the end not knowing what the hell they wanted us to do. Any PPO reading this is you are assigned to details don't expect a boss to give you lunch or break you need to do your own thing. Help each other out for Godsakes!! Lessons learned never volunteer for any of these pathetic details.

I live in an integrated, middle class neighborhood that borders all Black neighborhoods with high crime. There are lots of Section 8 folks here amongst us.
Our crime and harassment problems are most groups of youths who flood in to lakeside parks on hotter Summer nights.
I think gun fantasies are not practical unless you are part of a larger group of say Korean merchants. One citizen with a gun can stop a riot and will just set it off more.
Chicago Police and national guard should be training now, they did a good job with the NATO protests.

pepper spray just arrived. might help with drunks, individual yahoos. Don't see how the crowd gets going into my neighborhood so not too worried about the house as we are way too residential. Worried or about the city, BUT at some point society, the police, tax payers will all push back together.

The editorial page is pretty conservative, the news pages much less so. Although arguably based on viewer numbers Fox is a heck of a lot mainstream than MSNBC, CBS, etc., etc. But it doesn't agree with the left, so it must be extreme.

An "active" officer who worked the 1968 riots would, minimally, be 67 years old. So, take that outof the equation.
And the use of guns to protect your house and family from rioters should not be considered fantasy. If you and your family are in your house and a hoard of svages are intent in harming you and yours, yes, get a gun[the more the better] and huge amounts of ammunition and take as many of them with you as you can since their intent is to take you down. Go RHAMBO on the mutts. What have you got to lose? It's already lost already if they are at your door.
I agree, things don't look good for the summer. I doubt if the WH will do anything to keep a lid on things.

One of the first things you learn in the military is to never volunteer for anything. My first experience in basic training at Fort Leonard Wood went like this:
Drill Sgt: Who knows how to drive a truck?
Recruits: raises hands
Drill Sgt: Everyone who can drive a truck assemble over here.
The volunteers, myself included, all got loaded into the back of a deuce and a half and were taken to the gym that the officers use and were assigned to clean up the latrine, picking up used jock straps and scrubbing toilets. Lesson learned.

These "youths" only understand one thing and that's violence. Arm yourself and your families and master those weapon systems. You may not be able to stop a citywide riot on your own but a community banded together with firearms will hold back any unwelcomed uprising until help arrives.
Advice to Anonymous at 8:43 AM.
If you don't value your life or your loved ones than stay unarmed. Use what's left of your common sense and obtain a rifle for the summer's festivities. Any uninvited guests, shoot them in the face.
Barring that then move or go on a long summer vacation.

Get to know your neighbors. Who can you trust, who is useless, the troublemakers, and even who will try to get your fellow cops to take your guns away. Your block and the 8 surrounding yours.
Talk to the neighbors about putting up a lot of outside lighting. Street lights out? Contact the city NOW! Cut back the bushes and hiding places. Can you block off and control access if SHTF?
Get rid of fire hazards, riots and arson go together.

The WSJ had an article about the officers arrested in Baltimore. The article focused on the charge of " false imprisonment" on three officers for arresting Gray without probable cause. You cannot arrest someone who just runs from you. They are predicting that more people will run from the police and the police will hesitate to chase suspects. Yes, I can see that coming. From what could be at the most a sustained complaint and possible suspension to an indictment , fired and losing your job and pension, and possible jail time, What do you think the cops will do? And, I would not blame them one bit. Jeeze, I am glad I am retired. The liberal left will get just what they want. Urban areas out of control. Right now, what cop would want to do any work with the administration that is in charge in Baltimore now? And, Baltimore is way more dangerous then Chicago is. Robo cop is next in most cities.

Start with the easier stuff. Aways have extra food, water, medication, and other emergency supplies you may need. This is a good idea anytime. The best thing you can do during times of disorder is to stay home, keep a low profile, and "shelter in place."
It would be good to be in a better residential area, and know enough neighbors to be able to block off your street and set a watch.
Back then, we were in an apartment over a grocery store on a main street. Bad spot at a time like that. We had extra clothes, important papers and things packed and ready to go in case the store got lit off -- and a firearm to better our chances of getting away in one piece. No fun at all. Fortunately, CPD and the Guard held the line and the crap didn't get close to us.
I saw the South Side, area along 63rd Street, go up in '68. Unforgettable. It looked like Hiroshima over there, huge pall of smoke and the IC commuter trains running past there with interior lights turned off for fear of snipers taking shots at passengers, which fortunately did not materialize.
Ugly. Really ugly.

Most are at work, taking care of families, etc. Don't have all day every day free time to surge around in the streets with your hands down your pants, yelling s__t and breaking things. Being a decent citizen works against you sometimes, I think.

You do realize what dept you work for right? The CPD is the definition of ass backward political buracracy. Do you think your the first copper to realize the bosses are worthless?
