- A former gang member with a lengthy arrest history has been awarded nearly $99,000 in back pay after an arbitrator reversed his firing and returned him to a six-figure job with the Illinois state prison system, records show.
Xadrian R. McCraven, a senior adviser with the Illinois Department of Corrections, was fired by then-Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration in early 2014 after a series of Chicago Sun-Times stories that detailed McCraven’s rocky state employment history, including his 2012 firing from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Records show DCFS had fired McCraven for “writing and responding to hundreds of lewd and inappropriate emails” while at work. But under a 2013 settlement, Quinn’s administration reduced McCraven’s dismissal to a 10-day suspension and transferred him to the corrections department, which fired him on Jan. 6, 2014 — this time citing unspecified “inconsistencies” on state job applications McCraven had filed.
This bozo had 24 arrests and 3 convictions and he still landed a state job paying over $111,000 per year. How is that even remotely possible....oh wait, Illinois. Nevermind.

I know this isn't 'scientific', but from reading articles, or court documents :-), about parties going to 'arbitration', as I recall the arbitrator always, always, rules for the employee in the dispute. Except for one single time .....

It was a contract dispute over pay, and iirc around 2001. You were already working without a contract (and for a pretty long time) and Shortshanks Daley wouldn't budge and neither did the FOP so it was finally agreed to go to arbitration. You guys wanted like a 7% raise and 'King Richie' was saying nope, he'd pay only 5%.
Then in arbitration the arbitrator ruled: No to all of you -- You Cops get 2 1/2% raise and that's it. I couldn't believe what I read (Sun Times). WTF..over?? Where the hell did that come from??? And how the hell could he do it? But do it he did and it was binding.
The reason I remember this is because of Daley's response, he was laughing his ass off, literally. And being the asshole he was, mockingly said (paraphrasing)-- 'See I'm a fair guy the cops should have taken my offer'. The f--ker was twisting the knife and the prick loved every minute of it.
Anywho, that's the one and only time I recall reading /hearing of the employees getting screwed in arbitration. (I may have the percents wrong, but you should know what I'm speaking of.)
