Guilty Verdict

Justice prevails:
  • Timothy Herring told a cousin he shot and killed Chicago Police Officer Michael Flisk and the retired CHA cop he knew as “Sweet Pea” because he didn’t want to go back to jail.

Herring, 24, was convicted Wednesday morning in the murder of the two men. He is now expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
RIP Officer...finally.

To all involved in this case, my sincere gratitude. Great job by all! Your professionalism and dedication paid off. To the Flisk family if you read the blog, I'm relieved the case is over and the verdict was just. My hope is that you find some closure knowing Timothy Herring will never see the light of day again in the free world and that Michael Flisk #6962 will never be forgotten.

Its a shame and an injustice that the State of Illinois no longer has the Death Penalty. Who to thank for this abhorrent situation? Liberal Democrats, of course

If you as a Police Officer ever, in any election local, state or federal, pull the lever for a member of the Democrat Party...then shame the f*ck on you!

Unacceptable

I called my state senator today. Herring had just been released after serving 3 years of a 6 year sentence for armed robbery, which he committed while armed with a handgun at age 16. I implored him to introduce a bill which would make violent offenders serve more than the current 50% of their sentences. I urge all of you to do the same.

"Timothy Herring told a cousin he shot and killed Chicago Police Officer Michael Flisk and the retired CHA cop he knew as “Sweet Pea” because he didn’t want to go back to jail."

This worked out well for him. Have seen a lot of repeat burglars get 6 years. Now "expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars."

"Herring pulled the trigger right after he heard Flisk say he got a “good fingerprint,” authorities said."

Lesson - 2 people died proving "Control access to scene, provide backup." Don't let deaths be in vain. No one should be 99 in a situation like this.

Things will never be OK, but at least families know now that the killer will never walk the street again. Prayers and best wishes for them.

What is going on in this city? Yesterday the city council became the first major city to dole out reparations, 5.5 million dollars to victims of police torture. Fran Spielmlan could not hide her excitement writing in today's Sun-Times. Mayor Emanuel then told the alleged torture victims, "I want to thank you for your persistence" The vote was unanimous in favor. After the vote the aldermen stood and applauded. In the crowd was one Flint Taylor, a man who has made millions from such settlements. The same Flint Taylor Officer Martin Prieb writes about in this linked article. This is the same Police Officer who exposed Northwestern Innocence Project for being corrupt in their dealings with alleged torture victims. The City Council was packed with people who had a stake in this vote, but you know who was not there? You guessed it, Dean Angelo, the President of the FOP. You know who was not there also, Ray Casiano the 1st VP of FOP, Frank DiMara the 2nd VP of the FOP, Daniel Gorman, the 3rd VPP of FOP. None of the trustees for the FOP where there to fight this slap in the face to Law Enforcement. Why? Where has FOP been? Why was there not a news conference in front of City Hall to denounce this piece of garabage? Now if you want to see some very good union leadership one only has to look at Karen Lewis of the Chicago Teachers Union. Like her or not she fights for her union members. Yesterday, she held an emergency union meeting to denounce the Chicago Board of Education requesting that the teachers take a 7% pay cut for next year. Lewis was all over the news yesterday and last night. And again, I ask where is Angelo? Why is he not fighting for us. I thought a union leader was suppose to stand up and fight for the membership. I am a old south side ghetto cop nearing retirement. I have spoken with many of our districts younger cops who seem that this happen a long time ago and it does not effect me. How wrong can they be! This ordinance effects every single one of us on the job today. What the younger police officers seen not to get is that with this ordinance every time one of us make an arrest, your arrestee is going to think that they will sue and get money no matter what. This ordinance is going to open the flood gates for many, many lawsuits. As I said, I am a south side ghetto cop. It seem to me that the current Union Leadership has failed not only the hundreds of dedicated former police detectives who worked in the 70's and 80's but also they failed every single one of us who are working today. The current union leadership has failed all of us. Now I got a suggestion: I do not know PO Martin Prieb. I read his books and I read his blog. He seems to be the only person in or out of the department that is standing up for us. I am suggesting that some one who works with him or knows him urge him TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT OF THE FOP. In fact, I will talk to him myself. Where does he work? What shift does he work? The men and woman of this department NEEDS SOMEONE WHO WILL STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR US. THE MEN AND WOMAN OF THIS DEPARTMENT NEEDS SOMEONE WHO IS NOT AFRAID TO TAKE ON THE ESTABLISHMENT. The only one who is doing this is a patrolman. I urge everyone to think about what I am suggesting. The sounds of silence from the current leadership of the FOP is deafening. We need a strong person in the Karen Lewis mode to stand up to Emanuel and the city council. the way things are going in this country will need a fighter not BOUGHT OFF WHIMP Let me say one last thing: Remember who voted for this, remember the alderman who always say that they are for us. The alderman who always print nice fancy brochures with them talking with a police officer pretending to care about not only us but the community. (Marty Quinn of the 13th Ward and Mike Madigan in particular) Remember these people the next time they come around and ask you for your vote.

(I remembered) Please also remember that; the next time you have a citizen interaction, and conduct yourself accordingly at all times. You just never know who you might be speaking with or providing service to. RIP Officer Flisk. You've done a fine job raising your children. To the Flisk Family: You will forever be in my prayers!

To all of the e.t.'s out there; do not be afraid of calling for backup. You guys should not have to do your job 99. Fuck anyone who tells you that you should process a crime scene while by yourself. I am on patrol and am always happy to assist you.

After P.O. Flisk was murdered it was mandatory for patrol to backup e.t.'s. Then less than two months later that special order disappeared. That shows you how important the big bosses feel we all are. Fuck em all. We have to watch out for ourselves.

Timothy Herring and his momma and sisters and brothers and all his relatives all over the land aren't worth the life of Officer Flisk. The whole bunch of them aren't even close to the fine human being we lost when Officer Flisk was killed. I was working Special that day and heard the calls for help on the radio. I prayed and hoped but it was not to be. He was taken from us by a worthless savage animal.

So sorry for the Flisk family.

we can all take comfort in this. Herring is a young man and he really didnt want to go back to prison. Conceivably he could spend 60 years locked up if he lives to age 85. Personally I hope he loves to 95 and spends 70 years in jail. In the meantime I hope we all call our legislators and change the sentencing guidelines

Most of the "Republicans" in Illinois are merely RINOs.

I'm sure no offense was intended. I was thinking myself "not fair to retired ofc. to assume he is bright eyed and bushy tailed and out there w/duty belt on." Might not feel well or something, and suddenly they're crawling around the side of his garage doing s__t when he really should be resting, B.P. bothering him...you know.

Should be minimum two on-duty out there to keep all safe.

Here in Land of Lincoln it is the "Illinois Combine" and not the traditional republican and democrat. Back in Lincoln's Day it was the Republicans who were the liberal and progressive party. The Democrats were more like the Republicans of today.

I never had the honor of meeting ET Flisk, but I knew and worked with Stephen for three years at CHAPD on the old "state street corridor." From 55th to 22nd, Robert Taylor homes to Hilliard homes before coming to CPD twenty one years ago. He was a stand up policeman. Throughout all the adversity on the job, he never lost his enthusiasm. Because the department was so small, we were more like a family. I still keep in touch with many of my brothers and sisters who are spread out at law enforcement agencies all over Northern Illinois including CPD. I am happy and relieved that justice has been served. May BOTH my brothers now RIP. And may the Peters and Flisk families receive closure.

Martin Prieb may be working in 24. I agree that the current F.O.P. not-leadership must go. But I am not sure if Martin Prieb wants to run for F.O.P. office. Read his first book, the Wagon and other tales from the City. He tells of his years working as a hotel doorman downtown. He tried to help the unionized service workers, but the elections were, of course, stolen. I am a police survivor, a big fan of his books. My husband wrote a review of Martin Prieb's second book, Crooked City, which was published in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin on 4/23/15. Martin Prieb is a gifted, inspiring writer;, a dogged meticulous investigator, and an amazing human being. What a blessing, our paths have crossed.
