Outrageous
- Eighteen uniformed Chicago police officers were headed to Springfield on Thursday to attend parole hearings for three convicted cop killers.
WBBM Newsradio [...] reports the officers planned to present a silent but visible opposition to early release for three men serving lengthy prison terms for killing police officers in the 1970s.
In 1973, 36-year-old tactical officer Edward Barron was trying to stop a man who matched the description of a suspect from a recent robbery, when Joseph Bigsby shot Barron in the head, killing him.
[Bigsby], now 57, was sentenced to 200 years in prison, and has previously been denied parole.
- Earlier today, a major slap to the face of the entire Law Enforcement community quietly occurred when the Illinois Parole Board voted 8 to 7 to parole convicted cop killer, Joseph Bigsby.
It was after committing a set of robberies, which netted less than $5, in September of 1973 that Chicago Patrol Officer Edward Barron was shot and killed by Bigsby. Originally convicted and sentenced to over 270 years in prison, this cop killer will now be released.
And according to a few e-mails, some Northwestern people made the case for this piece of filth - the same university types who got a few murderers released and railroaded an innocent man.
UPDATE: The name error was Channel 2's, not SCC. We've bracketed the error by the always brilliant "fact checking" media.

Go gettum, Officers!!...Make your presence known...visible or invisible...the parole of this murderer needs to be Denied.
My incentive to do NOTHING.
D O N E .
30 miles an hour to every job and not a mile over.
"...the officers planned to present a silent but visible opposition to early release.."
...unles the judge orders them to cover up uniforms in the courtroom so's not to be "prejudicial..."
Like you couldn't tell by the eyes and faces...
Northwestern, what an embarrassment that place is. If there is any true justice in this World, all of those pukes would get a taste of their own medicene. How can you truly believe that EVERY piece of crap in jail is innocent?!
OT Charlie Williams is out at streets and san. He's coming back to run Cpd. You thought McCarthy was bad just wait.
I oppose the death penalty but (in my opinion) 1st Degree murder should NEVER offer any chance at parole. Especially if the victim was one of the good guys... cop, fireman, EMT, teacher, nurse, child....
Come to think of it, if I were U.S. Attorney General you would be paying triple taxes in order to build all the prisons I'd want.
DON'T VOTE FOR ME !!! ;)
No surprise
Thanks to the Officers who made the trip. Were the board members Rauner's appointees or holdovers from Gov quinnocchio??
Pardon my french, but this is bulls*!t.
Sentenced to over 200 years, a cop killer, and he is out of jail after 20 years?
We are living in a failed state and society.
Who do we, as citizens, contact in order to request these people be removed from their jobs?
Nothing gets a political appointee, if that is what the parole board is, thrown under the bus quicker than an unhappy public outcry.
And as a non-LEO private citizen, what else can I do to show my support for law enforcement in this case?
F the ignorant, insensitive jerks on the board who did this. They should pay with their jobs.
The Board has 8 Democrats, 6 Republicans, and 1 Independent according to the State of Illinois' appointment details for the Board members. All of them are appointed by the Governor.

Here is something REALLY outrageous and everyone should take note!
In watching the verdict come down on the Boston Marathon Bomber, Fox Cable News mentioned that he first praised Allah and then gave his apology to the victims.
When reporting the same story, Channel 7(ABC) conveniently left Allah out as did Channel 9(WGN).
Surprisingly, the Sun-Times coverage did mention he praised Allah first. (I was surprised on that one to be honest.)
So, if you are watching the News on TV, make sure you tune in the right one, and tune out those who are too "politically correct" to report the facts.
And to the Media Trolls that read this Blog, don't filter the News and don't leave out key facts.
Next case.
This really is outrageous. Who lets someone like this go? He killed an officer over $5.
$5.
That is what a human life is worth to this guy?
$5.
Nothing is surprising any longer the department doesn't care and the system says fuck you.
In addition to the 200 years for murder Bigsby got:
Attempt Murder - 50 years
Armed Robbery - 20 years
if i were family, it would be dead with-in a week... just saying.
May this piece of garbage get hit and killed by a car with no insurance! Because I don't make traffic stops anymore!
Eight Assholes.
It's time to target Northwestern with a boycott. Why does the department still send our bosses to their school? There are other choices.
Lets put it out there. The names of all the assholes on this board who voted to let this fucktard out!!!
Please list the Parole board members that voted yes. Do they have to give the response in writing? If so, I would really like to see their explanations.
The Anti Law Enforcement movement has just sunk to a new low..
All this brought to you by Mr. Asshole Eric Holder.
I ran him this morning on the IDOC (open to public) website. Looks like he was paroled to an address in Maryland? IDOC #C02290. 3 charges = 270 years originally.
First, I want to know if it is indeed a fact that Northwestern in any way testified on this asshole's behalf. If they did, then we as a law enforcement community need to take issue with them. Have our FOP draft a letter of grievance to Northwestern University. We cal also publicly put the heat on them and let them know that they should not be able to get away with this shit. They will be publicly shamed. Northwestern if this is true you should be ashamed of yourself.
I'm just shaking my head. This is what is wrong with the system. I am at a loss for words. Stay safe.
What a disgrace. In today's society, the bad guy is the hero. Law enforcement has been and continues to get slapped in the face and kicked over and over again. Very bad times in America right now. I don't think things will ever be right again. How sad. How pathetic.
It's good to know that an Officer gets killed in the streets of Chicago, that the killer will some day go free! Yet, these stupid politicians expect us to do police work in the streets! I only answer the radio and thats it! No traffic stops for me! So citizens feel free to commit traffic violations because I'm not stopping you! Fuck McCarthy and Rahm!
Who is this parole board?
Does anyone know their names?
Are they appointed or elected?
Where do they get their guidelines from if any?
Who oversees them?
Are they paid or volunteer?
Do they get benefits?
How long has each one been in office?
Does anyone know anything about this parole board?
Is it time to change their guidelines?
FOP? Bueller?, Bueller?
SCC, I was there, the most disgusting part of this vote was that a former police officer, by his own statement and the mother of a Chicago police officer, by her own statement, voted to release this convicted cop killer. Anyone that spends tuition at Northwestern should be ashamed of this University and know they are supporting Cop killers.
How do we identify by name the people on the parole board? Was that an elected spot or appointed? If appointed, who put the there-
We should hold protests in front of there homes!
That's what society thinks of cops now. We are nothing. I'm surprised we're even protected employees anymore.
This guy does the unthinkable and kills a cop, yet they still let him out. What kind of message does this send to other potential cop killers?
They have Barron and Bigsby mixed up in the end of that article you cited.
Well, those same university types should have no trouble using their homes as half way houses for those poor innocent murderer's that they worked so hard to get out of prison.
Disgraceful and unacceptable. But nothing is surprising in corrupt IL.
MS in Nevada
That is correct. More ammo for Prieb's next book. They lied and were caught.
Fuckin' Do-Gooders,,,,,,,,,,,,Fuckin' Liberals,,,,,,,,,,,just keep spitting in our collective faces.
Obviously the orininal judge wanted this human garbage locked with for life, so much for justice
The general public today just looks at it as a line of duty death. He got killed doing his job. It's a part of the profession according to most.
The governor can block the decision and should do so!
Look at the biographies of some of them board members Shelton is a former police Sgt at Champaign Policd Department most of the others that voted to release are social workers...
So he was 15 or 16 when this happened, and now he is 57.I have gone to these en banc hearings. They usually ask about prospects on the outside prior to release. He has people offering jobs, lodging for his transition, I am sure.
Perfect example of why Illinois needs the death penalty .
The only respite I receive upon hearing news like this is that I'm absolutely certain he will be behind bars again and soon. Alas, that will require more victims.
Anyone have the names of the parole board members who voted to release this guy?
A new level of disrespect for police and now, their families.
I found two names who voted to parole him. Edith Crigler and Donald Shelton. Received assistance from Cook County board member Larry Suffredin and president of Illinois senate john cullerton
Armed Offender shoots and kills a police officer now free to walk the streets, hmmm! Justice for the armed criminal a slap in the face to the working police! No justice! no peace! No work!
(OT) kills Cpd murders copper gets 200 years model prisoner he goes free now! All the lies that let this thug free rot in hell!
Policing is over, the animals won give them "room to destroy" as long as it is their neighborhoods why bother?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-cop-killer-parole-20150626-story.html
So we die for the people of this city and then they just let the killers go. I mean really, it's making me seriously question this profession
A day of silent protest NO ARREST FOR ANYTHING other Crimes against Police should be held each year on the anniversary of Officer Barron's death.
I officially feel defeated. Not even the "supposed" good people of the world support us anymore.
List of parole board members:

John Cullerton Supported His Release.

Do you mean the Charlie Williams of, "It is not practical to train individual officers to respond to a terrorist attack.", infamy? That Charlie Williams?
Worse than McCarthy, could be, only there are some people here who still have the goods on him and maybe control him. God save us from the likes of him?
GOD DAMN the Parole Board and GOD DAMN that stinking university bunch of slime ball POS I hope they all rot in hell.
6/26/2015 02:52:00 AM
The media in this city is totally in the bag, except for a very few exceptions.
Another recent example is the video of Rahm being booed at the Hawks Rally. Every major outlet that posted video on the net seemed to have edited the boo's to where you could hardly hear them, as though it was only a few in the crowd.
I was there. It wasn't a low intensity booing of a few thousand people. It was loud! It sounded as though 65,000 people were booing. There is no way the noice could be picked up as low as I heard in the videos posted. They were doctored.
Be very skepticle of what you read and hear in the local media.
Breaking now -- NY prison escapee Richard Matt shot and killed, Sweat being actively pursued. On 911 call from camper in area & apparent attempt carjacking...
The Board has 8 Democrats, 6 Republicans, and 1 Independent according to the State of Illinois' appointment details for the Board members. All of them are appointed by the Governor.

Please note they were appointed by Quinn (Democrat), Blago (Democrat), and Ryan (RINO), not Rauner.
FOP , get names of those responsible for that murderers release . Publish names , let their neighbors , family members know , maybe this criminal will kill again , rape , Rob an innocent person .
Next , No on view police activity unless a police officer or innocent citizens life is in danger.
Drive by gang disturbance , drug sales calls . Respond safely to all in progress calls , used Lights , sirens . Obey traffic laws. Do not endanger your life while responding .
A must to get names of those on parole board made public .
I don't believe Edith Crigler ever voted to deny parole for any cop killer. Correct me if I am wrong edith.
Larry Sufferdin is an ultra liberal so that I can see, but John Cullerton, if anybody knows let us in. And for the copper who voted to free this animal, you should never refer to yourself as a cop, shame on you.
Parole pondered for killer of California man buried alive
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Jerry Brown was deciding Friday whether to block parole for the killer of a developmentally disabled California man...
Brown has until midnight to decide whether to release the killer, 52-year-old David Weidert, or block the parole already granted by a state panel ....sentenced to life in prison for a killing in 1980 The victim's family and five state lawmakers are calling on Brown to reverse the parole board decision in what they say is a particularly heinous crime!
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims and the California State Sheriffs' Association also urged revocation of the parole.
In Illinois Edward L. Barron's cop killer Joseph Bigsby walks a free man because of a lack of law enforcement officials speaking out against this Illinois Parole Board'd decision!
Hmmm!
And people wonder why police officers are so demoralized. With the continuous attacks on the police by politicians lawyers judges and some of society we now have this to top it off. Very dangerous time for police. Blue lives matter!
Do NOTHING!
Cop Lives Don't Matter
Thank Democrats
BTW why do politicians get such large security details
and sgt pay WHY
Amy Emmanuel gets a personal body guard WTF
Such Bull Shit
11:39, Good article, but after reading a retired officer, from Champaign, voted to parole the asshole, I've given up on humanity.
Retired Sgt/Officer Shelton is a traitor. How dare he release a killer.
Even McCarthy was pissed.
'Among the critics is Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who released a statement calling the decision "incomprehensible."
"Today's decision is an affront to the entire law enforcement community, but especially to the dedicated men and women of the Chicago Police Department," McCarthy said. "I am extremely disappointed in today's ruling and believe it to be an absolute travesty."
The only good news today is escaped convict, Richard Matt was shot and killed by a police officer. The ONLY good news.

You couldn't be more wrong about Williams, but yes, he does expect people to do their jobs, so maybe that's where your problem lies.
How comforting to know that if I am killed in the line of duty, my murderer will be free while my wife is in still in her 50s and my kids are in their 20s. Makes me really want to continue to put my life on the line for this city.
He turned his life around. Where is his 8th grade graduation picture?

YES He does Lovy and Lovey, Flint Taylor, once heard they had a circle jerk
A lot of hate towards cops on internet concerning this...be aware of it. It is real. The same person who calls you for service today will cheer in the streets as you die tommorrow.
Is their a FOIA for half way houses and their residents
Went all to HELL IN A HAND BASKET , DON'T DO NOTHING NOW , Sit back and watch them destroy themselves . Then they will be crying for protection. Then they will learn to appreciate what we have been doing for them all along.
6/26 6:28AM: Thanks for the info on who comprises the parole board. However, are these Rauner's or Quinn's people? If the other poster is correct-hopefully Gov Rauner will deny their decision. And hopefully, Deano will Finally Do Something & Have FLOP involved w/ other groups and ACTUALLY LOBBY THE GOVERNOR to do the right thing!!
Other posters on the subject are correct that CPD should stop sending supervisors to the NU School of Police Staff & Command at their Center for Public Safety ( the old Traffic Institute ) until they get rid of the so-called Innocence Project. Other agencies such as ISP,CCSPD, and suburban departments should also consider other schools such as the Southern Law Enforcement Institute or (God forbid) the FBI Academy. It is the only way NU will take action.

I remember doing a T-stop on 47th just east of Cicero, this was about 8 years ago. I stopped the car-99 on days- thinking the two broads I had stopped, just bought dope.
I removed the driver and placed her in handcuffs, as WE should always do, and a car pulled up behind me.
Using my prisoner as cover (so what!) I brought her towards back seat of my squad and asked the driver of that car verbatim, "What's up guy." His response was, "I'm retired Police, I saw you alone, so I thought I'd back you up."
Is there anything better than you can ask for?

The o/p has "Ol' Cholly" Williams' number.
He was NEVER a "Policeman" therefore, he had absolutely
no care for Policemen or their concerns. It became even more
manifest as he was directed on which rungs in the ladder of clout
to grab hold to as he made rank.
>Snicker!<
Yeah... And when he suddenly "got ol' time religion" when his clout
had him plugged in at IAD? (Shielding from the 002 Corruption Blow-Back)
Ol' Cholly tried to position himself as an apt and able "police administrator"
by issuing a shit-ton of zero tolerance-rules are rules-I Charles Williams will
personally chain you blue shirts to a post and lash you bloody for any real/
perceived rule/G.O. infraction.
There went that bullshit...
Hoes runnin' da church with Williams at IAD.
More so when he was running Patrol...
Hiya Cholly!
You little hater, you!
Yup...
There are still some of us around who remember
you and the shit you pulled. Some of us even got
to rub up against you REAL up-close and personal like.
Cholly as Superintendent?
What's he gonna do?
Issue a "zero tolerance" disciplinary initiative
against Patrol for exercising self-preservationist,
by the numbers Policing in this anti-Police climate?
Williams was NEVER content to assume an even
basic level of competency in the blue-shirt ranks
on this job. He would freely and openly voice his
disdain toward the men and women who make this
damned thing go.
Board member D. Shelton says it was the right thing to do. Really ask the "f" family how they feel about realising the murderer who killed their loved one if thats the right thing to do you ass:"#l....unbelievable!!!
Who cares about northwestern???? how about the coppers mother who not only voted to free him, but also cheered when he got it. The copper should be ashamed of his pos mother

Must be from the south
The officer's family moved out of Chicago after the murder. They had too many memories and all bad ones in Chicago. Bigsby not only took the officer's life, he ruined a family forever. The daughter is in her 50's now and is still effected by her father's murder.
Didn't the family get a chance to come to Springfield to voice an opinion? I know they live in Tennessee now. I would not object at all if CPD Memorial funds and/or FOP funds were used to fly one or more family members to Springfield in cases like this.
They moved out of state, the least we can do is pay for their air fare to come back for these hearings if they are willing. The family needs to be heard. If a plane ticket is what it costs us, so be it.
That could be any one of us in that grave.
"I oppose the death penalty but (in my opinion) 1st Degree murder should NEVER offer any chance at parole. Especially if the victim was one of the good guys... cop, fireman, EMT, teacher, nurse, child.... "
News flash --- we're all good guys asshat and you're life isn't worth more than mine - American citizen not a cop, fireman, EMT, teacher, nurse, child
Don Shelton is a retired Champaign PD Sgt.
How could a retired Police Sgt. vote YES to Paroling this convict..Oh, a Quinn appointee in 2012, retired ater 23 years in Champaign PD, Donald Shelton, dumped his police job early for this political $85,000.00 a year position....A disgrace to law enforcement and that poor department, where he worked.....His comments in the tribune made me ill.."he was crying over the decision" , my ass.....6 others said NO! you were the releaseing vote pal...
