- Otis McDonald — the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit that overturned Chicago’s gun ban — would have been delighted that many of his neighbors now have permits to carry concealed weapons, according to his fellow gun advocates.
McDonald, who died of an illness last year at 80, was an African-American resident of Morgan Park on the Southwest Side. The onetime robbery victim was a vocal advocate of allowing law-abiding citizens to carry hidden weapons to protect themselves against criminals.
It appears many of his neighbors —and many other Chicago residents in safe and high-crime neighborhoods alike — agree with him.
So, essentially, people in high crime neighborhoods who want to protect themselves, get guns to keep safe, and the get guns by a legal and lawful process set up by the state.
And people who know that guns keep neighborhoods safe and want their neighborhoods to remain "low-crime", get guns in order to be part of the process that keeps the neighborhood safe.

There are many that will argue the guns, even legal guns, make neighborhoods more dangerous. Guns are the problem, not the answer to the problem. In itself a gun is inherently evil.

Local news radio is digging into some obviously-just-released CCW stats based on zip code. Attempt to dig out discrimination/racism.
One zip they picked, NW side, was largely white area. The next was on southwest side where "residents are 55% black and 22% Hispanic."
That was about it. Tripped over own d__k and just kind of left the "story" standing there naked at the bus stop trying to cover its privates.
Doesn't matter if it's read in the usual high-speed, drive-time, authoritarian voice. Nothing there.

It's a come-on. It is a one-time, one-year discount, supposedly funded by private donors. After a year, you'd be hooked into the regular $75.00/year cost, although with various "payment plans." They work this. Gabe Klein goes from city to city getting himself appointed "Director of Transportation," and then an Alison Cohen follows him with these bikes to sell.
Of course, the city will manage to spend some tax money messing around with it.

I am getting up there in years, and I still put in thousands of miles a year, carry loads you can't imagine sometimes (the equipped bike weighs at least 90 pounds going out the door for a "long-range, all-day patrol," tools, food and water, lights, rain gear, etc. and I add another 200 to the total rolling weight when I get on. Then there's anything I might come back home with. I have run it up onto a platform scale just for grins, when I had a lot of cargo, and hit 350 pounds rolling weight.
...and I don't "totter."
Probably a lot of these rent-a-bikes have already simply been stolen, used some, and just wrecked and abandoned. It's like that when you didn't work for something. Who cares. Don't put air in the tires, ride around like crazy smashing the rims over curbs, and then just drop it where it is and walk away when the wheel pretzels.
They let absolutely anything drive a car these days.
