Closing Arguments Coming

A day of "conflicting" testimony where those hired by the defense come up with one theory and the the prosecution with another:
  • A forensic psychiatrist, testifying Monday for the defense, said that the man who shot and killed a Chicago police officer suffered brain damage when the officer pistol-whipped him with his service weapon but said he couldn't tell if Bryant Brewer was legally insane at the time of the 2010 killing.

But later in the day, a psychologist hired by prosecutors testified Brewer was legally sane when he killed Officer Thor Soderberg, concluding he showed no signs of either a traumatic brain injury or mental illness.
Notice the subtle bias - the first psychiatrist testified "for the defense," but the second was "hired by prosecutors."

Closing arguments could happen as soon as today.

This is yet another one of many subtle biases when the media writes about the police. Examples: "... was shot by the police because they thought he had a gun..." leaving out that the reason they thought he had a gun was because he was pointing one at them. Or "that shooting is under investigation" and not saying that all police shootings get investigated which in turn makes the citizen not familiar with the process think that there's something wrong with the shooting. Or a not so subtle one a couple of years ago: Off duty sergeant kills motorist in accident. Well the reason the other motorist was killed was because the other motorist blew a stop sign, which you don't find out until you read the entire article.

Brain damage? Who says, some mental doctor who just read a few reports and interviewed the killer? Were brain scans done before and after? I say bullshit on the word of some liberal doctor. What exactly did he base his testimony on? If you put 10 psychiatrists/psychologists in a room you will get 10 different opinions. Not exactly a science.

"Pistol-whipped"???? Give me a break.

That's the problem I have. Media mentions this claim of being pistol whipped and paid psychiatrist says he suffered brain damage from it. But then the media doesn't say whether there were injuries to asshole's head and if he asked for or received medical attention for it. Media throws shit out there so people get drawn in but doesn't make a conclusion or mention if there were any findings of truth behind the accusation. Did he get whipped or didn't he?

It's a bench trial. Hopefully the judge isn't fooled by all the theatrics, and sends the POS to prison for life. I sure wish Illinois still had the death penalty. With any luck, maybe one of goofy's cellmates will kill him in prison.

I wish Judge Bourgeois, Jr. was presiding.

Lest We Forget...July 8, 2010

"Officer Soderberg, 43...was returning to his parked car at the end of his shift when he was approached...

The lot was filled with parked police vehicles when a 24-year-old man advanced on Officer Soderberg around 3:48pm...The two men became involved in a struggle, with Officer Soderberg ending up disarmed. The suspect then shot him multiple times in the neck and chest, killing him...

"The suspect immediately fled the parking lot with Soderberg's weapon. Police believe he attempted armed robbery a short distance from the killing. Chicago Police Superintendent James Jackson said, "The offender fired additional shots, which were heard by officers inside the police facility. Several officers quickly responded and there was an exchange of gunfire with the offender."

"The suspect was injured by police gunfire and taken to a hospital.

"The gunman accused of killing Soderberg has a lengthy rap sheet that includes nearly 20 arrests, including three felonies, 10 misdemeanors and three convictions. The arrests include several drug charges, and even an aggravated assault charge in 2006 for shooting his own brother on July 4."

B. Lashing out with anything, any way you can, in a sudden fight for your life -- it's all good. Understand susp. was covered with blood when another ofc. came out of station at the sound of shots, and thought "injured man needing help" for a moment -- until he engaged her too.

Psychiatrist professional witnesses. They may as well bring in fortune tellers.
=============
You pretty much get what you pay for when you have professional witnesses of any type. It should not be at all surprising that the professional witness for the defense gave testimony favorable to the defense and the professional witness for the prosecution gave testimony favorable to the prosecution.

A forensic psychiatrist is a medical doctor with, first, the additional training of a psychiatrist, and then with special training and experience (forensic) in the application of psychiatric knowledge to questions posed by the legal system. A forensic psychiatrist may also have a clinical practice.

I don't know if Glen Davis actually was stupid enough to stick his killing versus fungun in the badguys mouth, but Thor struck me as being a whole lot more smart than that. We buy our own guns, not issued as a lot of departments (being Captain Obvious for the trolls here). What Police Officer in his right mind would subject HIS OWN PRIVATELY OWNED WEAPON to damage by PISTOL WHIPPING anyone or anything? I am certain Thor was way smarter than that. Consequently, I WOULD HOPE the prosecuting attorney would be at least somewhat as smart to knock down this absurd testimony by this poor, oppressed, "mentally ill" asshole. PISTOL WHIP....seriously? What Dirty Harry movie did this jagoff pick that gem from?

I have 2 statements to make.

Something as important as the Death Penalty should be on a ballot and decided by the people of Illinois not one man. Does the Governor forget he works for WE THE PEOPLE? If the masses decide yay or nay on the Death Penalty then that should be the law.

The defense psychiatrist, Dr. James Corcoran, clinical director of state-operated psychiatric hospitals for the Illinois Department of Human Services makes a clinical/medical diagnosis/statement regarding the timing of an alleged brain injury and then corroborates an unsubstantiated claim that this human garbage was pistol whipped. This Jackass should be looking for a new job. How does this man head anything and can give such a flawed statement and not be held accountable. He is on the Government TIT yet has dishonored Police Officers over a Fucking Scum who deserves the firing squad!

O.T. Got room for a lawyer joke:
An old, stingy lawyer was dying and was determined to prove wrong the old saying; "You can't take it with you." He told his wife to go down to the bank and withdraw enough money to fill two pillowcases. His plan: Put the bags directly over his bed and when he died grab them on his way up to heaven. One day the old ambulance chaser died. When his wife was up cleaning in the attic one day, she came across the forgotten pillowcases. She then said to herself, “That old fool. I knew he should have had me put them in the basement!"
