Countdown to Lawsuit in 3...2...

  • A 26-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder and other crimes after he allegedly led police on a South Side chase this week that ended with the death of a man working on his stalled pickup truck, police said Wednesday.

Paul Forbes, 26, of the 10300 block of South Rhodes Avenue, is expected to appear in Cook County bond court Thursday, Chicago police said in a statement Wednesday evening.

He was charged with murder, aggravated fleeing, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, all felonies. In addition he was charged with driving on a suspended license, a misdemeanor, disobeying a red light signal and driving without registration.

Forbes was arrested and charged in the fatal crash that happened Monday at 7:35 p.m.

Police had stopped Forbes for a traffic violation in the 7500 block of South St. Lawrence and he allegedly fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed as police officers were approaching his vehicle.
But you know who'll get blamed anyway.

What about the guy who did about five hit-and-runs on pedestrians the other day? All for sport, people flying in the air all over.

Is this the same maniac, or a different one?

Need spike strips for every traffic stop now. Other ideas?

My prediction is nobody will get any money from this traffic stop. It's all on the driver not the officers........

Has something in the state law changed?
I was unaware that we now needed to carry our state registration in our vehicles.

I agree that the legal blame lays solely on the offender, but the city is going to ask the officers which part of the order qualified this incident for a chase? Stop chasing these assholes. When it's for no other reason then a suspended license and registration issues, put your tail between your legs and walk away. It's inevitable, but the city is going to leave an officer and his supervisors on the hook financially after one of these chases.

Maybe the law should be changed when someone flees from a traffic stop. Make a report, get a warrant for the registered owner of the car and impound the car. With a society and a herd of lawyers ready to sue, maybe things should change?

We already are. Abc 7 interviewed old lady in the hospital and she said "why dey gots to do dat? I means someone always gets hurt!"

No, she wasn't answering a question regarding what she thought of young blacks stealing cars and running from police. Another neighbor straight out stated "we blame the police". WTF??? Therein lies the problem...never accountable for their own carnage.

Any good articles on new technologies to stop cars? All the lawsuit money is going to end police chases as we know it. We need tractor beams ASAP.

Of course the officers will be blamed and the City will be sued. Our general orders are clear (if you can read) and if you've taken the driving class it's also harped upon....no chasing for traffic violations. The general public does not want us to chase for traffic. Of course the offender is the only one to blame. However, would you want to lose your life chasing someone for traffic or cause the death of someone for traffic? Not worth it.

Seriously...

For your sakes, for your families sakes
and for your financial and career well being...

Stop chasing these motherfuckers.
The public has already served notice
that they don't want you guys to chase.

Period.

"I'm Tuff-Guy O'Tool,
I'm no pussy and I'm proactive
while all the rest of you guys are dogs.
My supervisors have my back... Etc..."

Let's see what Tuff-Guy has to say when he is going
to go to his grave paying healthy garnishments to
cover his civil "punishment."

"Hey boss... Uhhhh... Been tryin' to call ya...
Really kinda need a favor... Uhhh, hello?"

Missus O'Tool says:
"I want a divorce.
My lifestyle isn't being sustained.
You can stay here but I WANT a
new house and I'm taking the kids..."

(Well... It's in her nature so no surprises there! ;^)

Seriously...
We all know tuff guys who thought they
had things licked and under control.

One incident from having your life destroyed.
That is the true nature of Policing.

The majority of us strive so hard to get it right.
And even sometimes when you're right, some
boss or politician will demand that you be made
to wear the shirt because your being "wrong"
suits THEIR whim of the moment.

Watch yourselves.
These are hard and mean times
To be The Police.

I seem to recall that there is the IVC charge for not possessing a copy of the vehicle registration in the vehicle.

It wasnt traffic the driver of the vehicle was wanted in connection for a home invasion, its why the chase started, not traffic

7:37pm ....obviously this person is a civilian or simply has never done it but of course we can request an impound on a fleeing vehicle that gets away, as long as u have the license plate number.

who decided to chase him, thus putting innocent lives at risk?

voters don't really care if a minor traffic offender gets away now and then.

Impossible. Too many connected people could have their cars impounded and that would impede the flow of cash into Rahm's pockets.

To 8/27/2015 07:37:00 PM

Cook County States Attorney won't approve an arrest warrant for CPD unless you can show that the offender is not in the jurisdiction of CPD...they tell you to "just put an investigative alert" on him, which is not a warrant and pretty much amounts to a warrant less arrest at that point. Only the finest legal minds at CCSAO.
