SWAT Shooting

  • A state correctional officer was wounded by police after an eight-hour standoff in Bronzeville ended with an exchange of gunfire early Thursday, authorities said.

The man, a former Chicago police officer, was shot around 3 a.m. after firing at officers who surrounded a home in the 4800 block of South Calumet Avenue, police said. He was taken to a hospital but his condition was not known.  Charges were pending.

The standoff began around 8 p.m. Wednesday when the man pulled a gun on sheriff's officers who were trying to serve a warrant stemming from a domestic assault, according to authorities.  The home was surrounded by a SWAT team and other officers while nearby homes were evacuated, police said.
Nice job.

"a former Chicago police officer."

If anyone should know what happens, he should know. How did he think this was going to end? With Puppies, Rainbows and Unicorns?

1. Why didn't Dart's people assume the liability on this one. They were serving his papers. 2. Is it true that the wounded subject is the nephew of a prominent/infamous Chicago Aldercreep? "G"

How are they under-equipped? No tanks or other armored fighting vehicles? I would think, rifles, pistols, tear gas projector, helmets and armored vest would be enough.

Great job CPD all coppers went home to their families, back each other up what lives matter? "Blue lives matter!" The thin blue line gets thinner by the minute, without us anarchy everywhere, telling everyone I know to get concealed carry permit!!

SWAT? I thought they've been replaced. I heard every district is going to get "bat" shields to storm hostile residences...

How are they under equipped? Try responding to a situation in your family sedan during rush hour on the other side of town. Also all their body armor is expired and out dated. Stand out there for 8 hours in 60 pounds of gear then see how much energy you have left. There is rifle armor available that is a third of the weight of obsolete crap they have now. Also, why does Georgas have 3 take home cars, including one of the Swat vehicles? So if you think they have everything they need, try out and see exactly how it is.

Former Swat.

The community of Bronzeville is a misnomer and a bit comic.
Unless of course they are comparing the area to an ancient, albeit primitive civilization. That being said, it would be correct, lest the civilized characterization be just a matter of formality.
In any case, the Stone Age preceded the Bronze Age.
Go figure, the cradle of civilization right here at 35th & Mich.

It's no different in patrol, former SWAT. And I know you don't want to hear it, but if everyone up there in SWAT is going out on calls with such obsolete equipment, as you've stated here, then maybe it's time for other officers assigned there to become former SWAT too. Oh, I forgot...it's not like patrol, it's something you sign up, test, and train for.
