10-Hour Day Dead for 2016?

From the FOP site (click for full sized version):

So, is this because of the manpower shortage? The equipment shortage? A supposed money shortage? A massive shortage of support within the Department?

Ok conspiracy theorists. Yes we did really land on the moon. And ten hour days was now just like it was last year a pilot program. That was tried as an experiment. Just like was repeated by a few people on here that actually met with the deputy and chief of patrol. Yet many chose to firm their own wild theories. Read your contract. In its present form it cannot be implemented city wide.

Money shortage-HaH! The city has always balanced themselves on the Police and Fire manpower allocations, claiming more personnel then there actually are and returning that money to the general slush fund.

Rahm wants this at any and all costs.

Forcing CPD to take a manpower haircut was the first order of
"busy-ness" as soon as Rahm jumped off the plane from D.C.
back in 2010...

It would play HUGELY on the national stage...

Rahm taking on and BEATING those:
"Wild, out of control, openly rebellious overly "powerful union" having,
needing to be reined in and feel the pain of "cuts" to their overly sweet
early retirement and cush $100K pensions at 50 that no one else is getting, COPS!"

The plan was to have everyone in such awe of Rahm for taking on and breaking
the teeth and backs of those unruly Cops in Chicago (and the rest of "organized
muni employee labor) that the city would be able to have it's way in regard to
staffing and work rules by picking-off, tampering with/making irrelevant, infiltrating
muni employee unions which would facilitate the hand-over to Rahm's financier
friends, the very last of mostly unmolested sweet honeypots of money left in this country.

...Municipal Employee pension money.

Destroy unions, thereby taking out the people who can cry foul;
and stack pension boards with willing mayoral stooges to help
facilitate the impending theft and voila!

Of course Rahm, Rauner and the rest will reap tidy,
generations long remuneration as "Finders Fees"
for assisting in wresting "all of that free money just
sitting around doing nothing for US" the sweet honeypots
away from those churls to be "properly managed."

With the stream of anti-Police hit pieces and the War Against
The Police in full swing, we can't help but wonder if select members
of media outlet editorial boards have been promised a piece of the
action if they go along with helping to separate The Police from
the good will of the public?

Given the current state of affairs, could there be anything
beyond the realm of possibility?

It isn't tinfoil hat type stuff to step back and take in
wide-angle view of those who are now openly arrayed against us.

Especially since they've discarded any veneer of
civility and regard for the societal implications now
that they feel victory is within their grasp?

If only they would make war on those who spray bullets,
worship death, embrace willful ignorance and self impose
social apartheid except for when they loudly demand that
society not only bend to their whims but to continue to throw
taxpayer treasure into the yawning pit of entitlement spending
that has shown a piss-poor return for the multiple TRILLIONS
of never to be seen or realized again taxpayer treasure.

But it's easier to beat on The Police because nobody
worries that The Police will get mad and light shit on fire.

"Y'all got rules to abide by!
Yes we do.

"We mighty cuz we L O U D!"
Mmm-hmm...

"Gibs us what y'all got
an' we'll go away!"
You keep saying that but...

"Black Lives Matter "
If only you would STOP the ritualized
"Dance of Death" that plays out in
such vivid fashion on the late night news...

It really takes up too much bandwidth and crowds out
any possibility of real dialog and meaningful action
to set a course of correction.

"Y'all racist Po-leece is the problem!
Y'all ain't sensitive to the needs of our
communerty!"

>Sigh...<
Just hang ya head look at the damn floor...
These people (and folks) are as lost as a ball in tall weeds.

Funny...
This new thing about management mandated
face time, "good touches" and pretend giving-a-fuck
that everybody is demanding from The Police.

If The Police completely withdraw,
we will see compstat spontaneously
(and very kinetically) self-disassemble...
So will G A R R Y.

Good riddance to very bad rubbish anyways...
Lol @ Rahm being truly naked and afraid for
the first time in his mean and hateful little life.

With the numbers we have now and all the house mouse and elite units we would need the 12 hour day! That study the city had regarding manpower will never be released and the FOP has NO clue how to file lawsuits to get documents.

The city is now screwing with all those officer who work security at the schools in the morning.

The 3rd watch will be basically midnites.

Bid for start times should be mandatory but not a chirp.
Cmon Dean I know you are on disability and will never work any kind of police schedule but try a little harder.

HELL post to you-tube if RAHMs media goons won't pay you mind.

SO basically disability Dean is a giant push over.

It is because they hate you and don't want you to be comfortable and happy,if you got it they take it ,if you want it they waive it in your face first and then never give it to you, they think anyone can do this job but they and nobody else wants it,it's a labor of love and appreciated by few that will give you blessings of comfort and days off and rewards for long hard hours away from family and the sacrifice you put forth everyday in this climate of Targets on your back, risking financial ruin in law suits and putting yourselves in harms way, while politicians constantly condemn you in the news and public and bad guy turn on you, and you still put that uniform on with pride and do your job fairly and with trust and integrity, and all you ask for is wages and days off with your family and 10 hour days so that you can be with your family more often, but do they care?

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/warner-todd-huston/2009/05/08/obama-cut-slain-officers-benefits-half-wheres-media-outrage

one of Obama's first orders back in 2009 was to cut Line-of-Duty benefits paid at the federal level to the survivors of fallen officers... Eric Holder's office said the move was justified because the number of officers killed in the line of duty would go down.

Are you talking about blue shirt pensions? Because if you are then someone better call the pension board and tell them to fix their pension calculator. Last time I used it, it told me that I would, after 27yrs and a day, would be receiving just more than $58,000/yr (after federal taxes are deducted).

Working less was something I thought most of your readers were into. You no do nothing stay safe and go home. The 10hr day is by far the best schedule this city has ever had to offer. I for one will be disappointed if we do not go to the 10hr day. I miss it. I had more time off, more time with my family and more time to work side jobs. My stress levels were at a minimum as were my beefs and need for taking time off.

As far as I see it here in 011 the only people I hear bithcing about it are the ones who don't do shit in the first place. It's sad when the city finally offers us something wonderful the drains on this job have to go and f&#k it up! it's too bad, when I came on this job, I could not wait to go to work every day. I was hooked from the moment I hit the street. I don't hate it now, but the atmosphere on the streets has changed. Over the years, I feel I have lost some of my compassion for the citizens. I feel a definite lack of respect and evenly a loathesome hatred for my brothers and sisters in blue. I still perform my duties with pride and professionalism but I'm just not as eager to serve Chicagoans any more.

"If you follow the rules and orders, the department HAS TO COVER YOU".

My partner is on furlogh. So I end up working with new people everyday. I worked with an officer who just got off the foot patrol and now is assigned to my district. He is very gung ho and aggressive and wants to lock people up left and right. He made the above statement. I told him that it was a complete lie and a farce. He refused to believe it. The police academy does a great job of indoctrinating recruits. I will never forget what my fto told me: "listen young man, big arrest big problem, little arrest, little problem. No arrest, no problem".

8/30/2015 03:20:00 PM"

You blame the academy? Do you realize that a new recruit out of the academy might be assigned to the traffic detail for months then a FTO for 4 cycles. Then the impact zone until they are off probation. The amount of training after leaving the academy is 4 months. If they had a competent FTO. Now you blame the academy for a recruit that is one year after the academy? The system sucks for new PPO's. The street training is lacking, at the best is very minimal. No one cares about training but makes big assumptions that PPO's have the skills to act on the street. Maybe you could take time and provide the guidance for the new officer?

8/31/2015 07:57:00 PM

____________________

The quality of training in the academy has gone downhill. I have spoken to many people who stated that the academy is a place to hide the incompetent (and retarded) and chosen police officers. There might be a few (being generous) instructors who do a decent job but they do not cover all the training. Once in a while, I will work with PPOs and they are coming out of the academy dumber than ever.

I work in patrol; my shifts change (reverse seniority or manpower shortage, special events). Nowadays, you can have over thirteen years on the job and still go through the shift and schedule changes. I handle domestics, DUIs, incredibly involved situations (reports), and whatever else is required. There is no choice for me but to take the assignments and do an acceptable job.

I take insult to the person above who suggested that I take the responsibility of picking of the academy's slack. By the way, the FTO program is part of the academy. Both the academy and the FTO programs are a joke. They are just passing the burden to patrol.

Your masters degrees are just pieces of paper from diploma mills. You guys were just cash cows for the diploma mills.

I see officer Mette has yet to figure "it" out.

Us "people who don't do shit in the first place" aren't the ones responsible for you not seeing your family or "watching your kids grow up", Michael...

YOU ARE. YOU AND ONLY YOU. If you don't like it you could always go work somewhere else 9-to-5 in the real world.

Or do you somewhat still feel obligated to dedicate the best part of your kids' life to this worthless job because The Weasel helped spring you from that joint in Iowa? I always thought of you as a pretty smart dude, but if you think for one second that your work ethic is going to change a goddamn things here in the 011th district or that the savages in the neighborhood actually give a half a fuck about you and all the "above-and-beyond" hoops of nonsense that you jump thru for Cmdr. Sleeping Beauty, you're sorely mistaken friend.

And for Gods sake get off your high horse and figure "it" out already, Michael. No, I won't tell you what "it" is, nor will I sign my name as that would be poorly received seeing that I am management.

When ever you hear someone says something like I heard this or that ask them who told them. If they can't tell you who told them that line of bullshit 99% there just making the shit up. Look how many negative posts get put up here and four or five days later we find out it's all nonsense.

Look at "Police Royalty" Sgt. GW in Narcotics. That dude worst year was when he went to Patrol for maybe a year on midnights at Abel/West. All these "juice babies" are so ridiculous. GW loved to show his pics of him sitting on tons of pot, then Sgt of saturation, now I'm expecting a promo that he knew about since 8th grade to Lt.
He was a simple bastard on Patrol.
He actually boasted that he sat next to "Iron Mike" at a District Christmas party. I wish I was that lucky. Imagine the knowledge "Iron Mike" could give as he slams 85 beers w/those psych meds.

I'm not hanging around for the 20, can tell Ya that right now. Sunk my left nut into this gig & and have nothing to show for it. Had a lot of time on the books, and always wondered when a Vet would tell me they had 850 or 1000 hours on the books but now it's down to 200. Cuz this shit is getting goofier by the day.
The younger Cops on the job tell me that they'd FIRE the old timers that do nada. They'll learn. They don't get it now, but when they do its gonna be punch in the gut & kick in the nuts. How long can a human being(Cops are Human)take bosses fucking w/EM, BS promotions, and general City & FOP BS?

I'm sorry but I have to step in on the PPO chatter about helping them. I'm a veteran and would gladly help the new guys but they are arrogant, self-centered, know it alls. They run their fucking mouths and talk shit to and about the veterans. I ain't tearing it up like my younger days but I show up to 99 percent of the hot calls and handle my business. These kids don't know shit about the history of the department or how the department functions. They are little brats, running veterans numbers to convince themselves they do more than you. Their first 5 yrs will never come close to most vets first 5 yrs. If I talked to a veteran copper the way they do, I would expect to get the shit slapped out of me. Most of them never wanted to be the police, just needed a job. Most would have been passed over in days when 20k people took the test. There are a few kids I'll help, but not many. They let the vets do the heavy lifting and parade around with tvbs, anovs, and contacts. I could bitch more, but what good will it do. They are the ones who have to do 20 more years, not me. Even though they are little assholes, I still have their back when the shit hits the fan, but I know they don't have mine.

Just an FYI there are not two tact secretaries in 005
There is one. The chick on afternoons is ghost payroll yet fills out OT slips. She also abandoned her kid and let's her sister raise it. Real piece of crap.

-------
Why fault mike because he is doing a job he's always believed in? A job he grew up watching his father do, honorably? This job is STILL honorable, especially in these awful times when we need to stick the fuck together. You're spineless. Go say it to his face. I'm sure he will handle it with a lot more class and grace than your ball-less inflammatory blog post. Glad you got that off your chest, calling out one of the good guys from the anonymity of your computer on a thread that should die soon as it's old.

We could all follow Mike's example. Sure, a huge portion of this job is nonsense but he's doing what he loves with a smile on his face. Shame on you for this.

So why are the officers at Homan Square gonna start working the 10 hour day schedule come the first of the year.

9/03/2015 10:20:00 PM

Shhhhh! Black site! Top Secret. Under cover, rendition! Don't let Amnesty International or Loevy and Loevy find out, Guantanamo Midwest.

I already lead my district in activity so with the 10 hour schedule no one would come close to me with the extra hour. That would have been really neat.

I could say the same thing about you, if you don't like it here get the f out. I took an oath to serve the city of chicago and that is what I do on a daily basis. I don't work a second job I don't do VRI. You can think about me what you will. I do my job. And I'm proud of what I do. KMA.

Maybe you could take time and provide the guidance for the new officer?

8/31/2015 07:57:00 PM

Not gonna happen. As soon as they decided that the PPO's can only work with supervisors or FTO's because they were too CHEAP to pay anyone else, or thought only FTO's and supervisors knew anything; my days of providing guidance were over. Not to mention the fact that I'm owed about 5 large in back acting desk sergeant pay, which I'm sure I'll never see.

Sorry PPO's, it's not personal, I'd love to provide guidance, but the department does not allow it based on their actions.

The biggest difference is if you step in shit, you will most likely know how to get out of it. Let's see them get out of something. A few names come to mind, all fired and a couple went to jail. Wouldn't listen to veterans. I am retired now and never got in a bad jam because I had some old guys and old sergeants around to steer me through some treacherous water until I learned how to do it myself. Best thing: don't get in and you won't need to find a way out. I know of two guys who beat the tar out of a shithead, both fired because they fucked up. One sentence in their report different and leave out the lies and they would still be employed. Thank God it is all over.

make ten hour day optional as a power car in every district
believe me you will have more than enough volunteers
it will allow every district to have 1 less beat car per sector
1000hrs to 2000hrs and 2100 to 0700hrs Power Cars
smart officers will be using seniority or cpd could use activity as a requirement to work the power car
put tactical teams on ten hour shifts , you will get more volunteers and less overtime
