People Don't Want to be the Police?

Why ever would that be?
  • Police murders are up and police recruits are down.

CBS 2’s [...] shows us the struggles.

In Chicago and many other American cities, it seems to be getting harder and harder to recruit police officers. Applications have been going down dramatically in recent years. Ask the police commissioner in Philadelphia.

“Right now, policing is not the most attractive occupation that they could probably get into,” said Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

Among the reasons – the danger of the job. Just days ago, a Texas sheriff’s deputy was ambushed. Deputy Darren Goforth was shot and killed as he refueled his patrol car.

And then Tuesday, the shooting death of Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz during a foot chase. It stunned residents who knew him and it stunned Mayor Donny Schmit as well as officers who searched for the killers.
And those are just the toppers to the last year-plus of anti-police reporting, most of it based on ignorance or outright lies or a leftist media-driven agenda promulgated at the highest levels of DC government. Society is now reaping the whirlwind.

There are elements of the government that would like to see a race war in this country .
They control the media and would use the police as a flint to spark it off .
You disagree . Why has potus weighed in on the killing of a criminal by police but not a policeman killed by a criminal ?

Keep describing 300-pound violent offenders battling to gain control of an officer's service weapon as "unarmed."

Keep describing crazed active shooters trying to run over police officers as "shot in the back" when, through a combination of skill, courage, and divine grace, their rampage is halted.

Keep NOT describing some of the worst wanted criminals -- the ones who can render a 20-year-old woman "unrecognizable" in a matter of moments.

Keep it up. And remember -- the more you paywall, the less of your s__t we have to read.

Descending spiral...for you.

And we are about to hit a mass retiring soon from the 80's. '85-'90? If I had the time, I wouldn't be lingering around here in this state anymore. Fuck these democrats and their voters. They will find out soon enough when this place goes to hell. It used to be back in the day when you retired you stayed in chicago, had a good neighborhood, nice neighbors, cost of living wasn't so bad. Now you have guys leaving the state left and right. And the people will get what they vote for, shit. Cops no longer stay in neighborhoods, gangs move in, with their drugs, quality off life goes down. Neighborhoods change for the worse. Look at the south side. What is left? Really, what is left? Two pockets. can you imagine this city if they lifted residency? But they hate the police. Deep down they know they need us though.

Don't forget the constant drumbeats about how the Pension problems are the police officers fault and the city has to cut pension benefits and health benefits! One of the very reason I took this shit job as a young man! Lately, I feel like I'm going to get robbed of my pension and health benefits from politicians because of the anti-police sentiment! I tell people all the time, go find another career and move from Chicago, if your smart!

The Joyful Haters say:

"Statistics say that being a Policeman is safer than it's ever been."
As Gran'daddy used to say...
"There go dat BULLSHIT again!"

No matter how hard these "smart," well funded m/f-ers in academia/
government/the corporate world try and no matter how the media
tries to spin it, statistics (and the associated corporate bean-counterism)
just cannot be successfully overlaid on something as awful, bloody, dangerous
and flat out unpredictable as Policing because of the very nature of the
majority of the end users of Police Services being some of the most terrible,
messy, dangerous and unpredictable m/f-ers one could ever encounter.

All of this and plus the War Against The Police.

You're damned right people are staying away from Policing as a career.

Who in their right mind wants to chance being the next Copper to be
thrown to "The Mob" for appeasement and craven politics?

Especially after rightfully and lawfully saving themselves from some
6'4" 300+ pound monster type trying to disarm and execute them
with their own weapon then boast about it on Twitter or some such?

Yeah... Remember how people were lined up by the ten thousands
to take the entrance exam during the 1980's and 1990's?

Remember double shifts running at the academy?

Multiple classes of 150+ hitting the streets every month
or two for at least ten years?

We had
PLENTY of HELP
on the streets.

Where the hell did everybody disappear to?

"Achieving Efficiencies"
"Right Sizing."
"Doing More With Less."
"You Cops are complaining
because you're lazy."
"Stop being so rebellious and
get back to work and fight this crime."

Remember this shit-talk from when this war started?

"If you guys don't like the job, just quit already.
We should fire you all and hire people for half
your pay and no benefits and they'll do your
jobs with less complaining. You guys think
way too much of yourselves and we don't like it."

The Joyful Haters are quiet as of late...

Factor in the emboldened, death cultists in our urban areas
and the push for an enshrined national " Police Duty to Retreat/De-Escalate,"
Politicians can't lie well enough to sell Policing as a career.

Not to mention the push by Rahm's buddies on Wall and LaSalle Streets to flat out
STEAL police pensions because they represent the last of the big, sweet honeypots
of "other people's money."

We think THAT is what's driving The War Against The Police.

Somebody smells money.

When you peel away perks and benefits, people stay away.

And given the state of affairs, is it any wonder Policemen are
queuing-up in numbers and heading for the exits?

It just isn't worth the grief and aggravation anymore
and the public has decided that it's The Police who
are out of control.

To anyone reading this, I am a long time veteran police officer. We are in very difficult times to be the police for many reasons but even more so in Chicago. I'm not going to get into it but if you read news papers or watch the news it's self explanatory not to mention our politicians do not like us and they continue to strip away or attempt to strip away our benefits. If you really want to be the police go federal government or go suburbs. We live in a county where judges and politicians cater to the criminal element, your family is more important. Tell me where I'm wrong.

As I've stated before, many times, this is all part and parcel to the Federal government's takeover of this country. Local policing will be taken over by Federal forces, selling it to the stupid as tax relief at the local level while putting federal agents in control of the populations of the largest city centers where coincidentally, crime is out of control.

Sold as "local budgets can't afford it, let US do it for "free" ".

Within the next 5 years, likely far sooner than that, all the big cities that are part of the long term takeover will submit their policing mandates over to the federal government, and people will buy it so long as they think their taxes won't go up.

Make the population poor, make them fight amongst themselves trying to force the NEXT guy into poverty because YOU are, and you've got a willing public screaming for the federalization of the country.

But don't worry, the feds will never declare martial law or anything. You know, to "control" the violence.

Criminals will then become known as "domestic terrorists".

Soon after, anyone NOT in compliance with weapons turnin or any other policy "designed for 'your' safety" will also be deemed domestic terrorists.

Under federal law, when you do not comply with disarmament for security, and localization of living quarters, you will become a terrorist and treated as such.

The subjugation of a country with far too many middle class moneyholders hoarding THEIR money.

This anger with police has been present through the entire Obama Presidency. The hatred for Police is part of the Black Democrat Agenda, going back to when he said the Cambridge Cop :"Acted Stupidly" for challenging his buddy an arrogant Militant Harvard professor. The Dept. of Justice sent high ranking officials to mourn with Trayvon Martin's family, they also sent them to mourn for Michael Brown; are they sent for cops who die in the line of duty? People are angry, as they should be. People have trusted and placed their support in Democrat Politicians, and they were betrayed. Poverty was not overcome, if anything the situation has worsened. The arrogant Elitist Political Class resents the police. Remember when Al Gore told his dope smoking son that if he did not straighten out he would end up like "them", referring to his Secret Service bodyguards? This is what the Left wants, blame the cops instead of the people who have really caused the problem. "G"

VALENCIA/CARACAS (Reuters) - When a man they believed to be a thief sneaked into their parking lot in the Venezuelan city of Valencia, angry residents caught him, stripped him and beat him with fists, sticks and stones.

They tied him up and doused him in gasoline, according to witnesses, in one of what rights groups and media reports say are an increasing number of mob beatings and lynchings in a country ravaged by crime.

There are times reading this blog is frustrating. What is meant by too many minorities in jail, it is referred to the bullshit weed cases and minor arrests that many whites do not even get arrested and jailed for. This may not get posted because of that but it is true. I have seen whites kick, spit and hit cops and nothing happens. Many get free rides home. Cook County is full of bullshit cases that are clogging the system and wasting resources. Gun charges are different. Hell yes punish their ass. But for shoplifting? Stealing candy? There was a man choked to death after stealing toothpaste and yet white pedophiles get house arrest.

What made this job so undesirable...Democrats.
Your mayor say police shouldn't say things like "he got what he deserved", he thinks that's racist.
Well let's see, Your President is a police hater, he has on his Cabinet and staff, police haters, Hillary, Bernie and the apologetic O'Malley all have bowed before #BLM. The store front revs, PhFlegs, pork chop Louie, the looney Sharptoon all subscribing to race baiting.
Your president won't acknowledge crazed Islamic extremists. And when you think about it, the #BLM marauding and chanting 'death to police' is about the same as ISIS chanting 'death to America'. The two groups are very similar and now more obvious, they have their loons, just like ISIS, following their credo by shooting and murdering police across the country. How often do the bombers attack police facilities in the Middle East, hmmm? Remember Baltimore's AG's statement, " I have heard your call", factor that in with the threats by the militant hate black panther party.
There's no bright future in Chicago, but it's good paying job - if you can wing it through the 1st & 16th.
Stay safe, let the jungle be as it was designed.

I blame the Community Divider-in-Chief. This is guerrilla warfare against local police nationwide.

Remember his 2008 speech in Bolder, CO? The one where he promised a national civilian security force as powerful and well funded as the military? Wouldn't it stand to reason that local police organizations must first be dismantled through any means? It appears this fundamental change is underway.

Police understaffing? Check
Police prosecution? Check
Police assassinations? Check
Police demoralization? Check

Crimes downgraded? Check
Revolving door justus (sic) Check

I think it's pretty clear what's happening. Care to guess who will comprise this national civilian security force?

Well when you have mayor that buckles in the knees when the minority communities cry about the police and he throws cops to the wolves then brings in an outsider like McCarthy whose policing ideas are crazy like 2 weeks after being here launches 2 good units that had the abilities to saturate and slow down the element claiming that beat cops do the job better, I don't deny that but when beat cops are tasked with Bullshit radio calls how can they do police work, Next you have Supervisors who crap in thier pants when they have to make a decision or back the troops who wants to work or be the police. Finally you have aldermen like Anthony Beale that wants to lower the hiring standards to include THUGS that have no business near a gun, police files or anything police related how do we fight crime. I think the way many of these millennials were raised by their parents is the biggest issue with the current crop of young officers, not necessarily that they have college experience. Apply for the fire departments in the suburbs. Get a CDL and be a truck driver. But don't become a cop. You'll just be a target for the media, politicians, the public. Not to mention the inner department politics. You'll see people get promoted who never did a day of work because of their phone call, have people act like their your friend and then go spread BS rumors about you. The local police are afraid to do their job because of what might happen to them if they get sued and I don't blame them, crime will get worse in all major cities and the feds, will act. Maybe the person you're talking about is a total softball, but let me tell you, when our regular crew is on furlo, people are crying when they are stuck inside for a couple days a week. You don't want people like me inside, but you are the first one sitting at one of the desk computers checking your e-mail saying "They'll help you down there", to any citizen that walks in the door, then grab your stuff and take off, saying to yourself "thank god I didn't have to handle that nonsense!"

The fake lie box interviews and the systematic failing of police officers kids and veterans has lead to some of the most questionable recruits i have ever seen.

Throw in the mix of clouted triple merits promoted wayyyyy beyond their usefulness and you have a quagmire of dimwitted wanna be investigators and managers with little common sense.

Do what they ask and let the chips fall. Do not offer your merit boss any advice just document the great commands you are given and always have a witness in those closed door meeting because the boss will have one.

HS diploma and passing basic literacy/writing test should be enough.

Best cop I ever worked with had a GED and military background. Couldn't write a report or type to save his life, but he defused more situations with his verbal and people skills than anyone I ever met. Black guy who lived in the district and grew up nearby. People there trusted him and gave him tips on the more serious stuff that happened in the district. Would have been a great Sergeant if he could have scored high enough and had someone to help him with the paperwork. No merit promotions then.

He had a great line about 'officer involved domestic'. That's where a cop comes into a situation and makes it worse. Funny guy who often talked in parables or like a preacher when he wanted to get a laugh.

I have multiple degrees and if you want a police administrator I'd be better than him. You want a street cop with verbal skills pick someone like him. I'd be lucky to be as good as he was on his worst day.

The idea that a college degree is necessary for policing is crazy. What you need is a strong work ethic, basic decency, patience, verbal skills and a willingness to reluctantly get physical if necessary.

If you want people to become cops you need decent pay and benefits, real pension as opposed to promises, and leadership that's willing to back a good cop that just screwed up or is being attacked unfairly for some situation. I'd also add in 'sabbaticals' for guys who are burned out. Let them become a city tree trimmer for a few months or years and stay on the CPD payroll. Plenty of guys who are burned out with 20+ years, but who need the paycheck and won't retire.

CPD isn't perfect, but as far as big city police departments go it's at least average. Working in some small suburban department may seem to be better, and it often is, but at least in CPD if you have some 'higher up' with a vendetta against you it's possible to move to a different assignment. Try that in any department under say 300 sworn personnel.

Legislators RUINED policing by passing a suffocating truckload of petty prohibitions that just anger the public, and left cops in the unenviable position of enforcing it all. Mayberry RFD is a distant memory.

This is democracy exactly the way Alexis de Tocqueville expected it over 100 years ago when he wrote "Democracy in America." He called it "Democratic Despotism," where society ends up being covered by an endless net of petty rules, each passed to satisfy endless petty little political factions.

Democracy produces a society of thieves forever trying to steal from each other. When the loot is largely gone, democracy then produces a society of cannibals who try to consume each other. Look to the chaos in Venezuela to see the future of America.

In the end, those of us in the Silent Majority will protect the families of cops in our group.

"We are the World" was a Narrative that ended in 2000. The new Narrative that will guide society will be "my group first, other groups get out of the way or leave." How those "groups" become defined will be the central question of the next decade or two.

Sides will be chosen.

Arby’s earned itself a new mortal enemy after initiating beef with a Florida police officer. The fast food restaurant, archenemy of Jon Stewart, reportedly refused service to an uniformed Pembroke Pines police officer on Tuesday evening for being a police officer. The least Arby's could've done was service the officer if it wasn’t going to buy the officer a free lunch.

In a press release, Pembroke Pines Police Chief Dan Giustino said that he would be "contacting the Arby's CEO to demand an apology." Chief Giustino also mentioned in the report,

“We recognize that this is an isolated incident confined to a single individual within our city, and appreciate the outpouring of support we continue to receive from the residents of Pembroke Pines. Ironically, a local mother and her daughter visited police headquarters that same evening and dropped off cookies and a ‘Thank You’ card to show their appreciation for our agency and its officers.”
According to Pembroke PD, Arby’s CEO Paul Brown has since apologized to Chief Giustino.

I totally agree about Traffic Court!

Unless your a white person, most traffic tickets are thrown out of court if a Black or Hispanic person challenges the Police Officer writing the tickets!

The judges, feel sorry for these traffic offenders! You commit a violation you should get penalized and NOT coddled! Soon, we will be driving like in a third world city with all these traffic violators who are emboldened by a soft traffic court system!

I even overheard one judge tell a lawyer, that nobody gets convicted in her court room! Guess what her background and race is? Then gave the Police Offices in the front row the "shit eye"!

I felt a very cold chill of anti-police sentiment and this is from a sitting judge!

9/01/2015 08:47:00 AM

You're a fucking retard. Nobody goes to jail for a bullshit weed case. Sorry to burst your bubble. If you're a habitual shoplifter, then yes, you have to go to jail. If you resist and fight with the security guard, you might die. How about this? Don't resist until you die, or just don't steal. Everyone goes to county at some point if you're charged with a felony. You either bond out or you don't. You can't figure this out because you're really fucking dumb.

Sorry, that's not going to happen. The department doesn't need more people who regurgitate narratives on reports. They need people who 1.) understand what they can do and 2.) Articulate what happened in a clear and concise manner. I've seen people omit things in reports that would bolster thier case in favor of puking out a shit sandwich narrative that they bought out of the Dollar Store. People still don't understand reasonable suspicion to create contact cards and want to get less educated people. What you don't understand is that you can't scoop up dude dirty and make it right. Although if you don't understand the world we live in now, you probably never did shit. Get a bus check and go back to sleep.

In Humility and with respect- you are in a war now and the subject of a growing terrorism campaign. As you are still in law enforcement and reactive mode it's tragically one sided. Certainly you can respond - after the damage is done.

If you remain passive and attempt to carry on business as usual plus extra vigilance then sadly people inclined to be policemen may stay away.

If you led and fought back there'd be a nation behind you. Yes a bit scary in itself.

You're in a war. Not crime. War. Look at the history of other conflict ridden countries. This is beginning and growing.

Jeez, was the Arby's CEO required to burn down the franchise just to please you?

THE REST OF THE STORY: Arby's CEO and another Arby's exec flew to Florida to address the offending employees personally and to fire them. In other words, Arby's CEO responded quickly to the Pembroke Pines chief, apologized immediately, offered his apology immediately, said he'd investigate and take the proper action, and then he did exactly that.

We are not the insane mob. We are supposed to be the rational ones. Punish the guilty party or parties, do the right thing, but you're STILL complaining? MOVE ON, it's over.

Just my own family experience with how Chicago seems to be hurting for applicants. I'm retired CPD and one of my sons took the test. I don't remember exactly when, but it would seem to be the last one obviously. About 6 months ago I get an email, as my account was used when he signed up, stating he had failed to report, as notified by a previously sent email, to show up for the Power Test. And due to his failure to show he would be removed from the list. To the best of my knowledge I/he had never received this email notification. I'm not here to blame anyone for that, just a basis for the story. I called personnel and spoke with an Officer who was friendly, professional, etc, who stated that unless I could get confirmation from AOL that there was some kind of technical problem on AOL's end that caused us not to receive the email that he was, in my own words, SOL. And she told me in a nice way and in other words, good luck with that. Again I'm not complaining about her. Then in my fatherly mind trying to figure out how I could help my son get back on the list for the job, that we all agree has been taking a non-deserved public pounding, but that I loved and was proud to do, never mind some of the most fun I could ever imagine having.
I complained like many of us on this blog about guys getting, help, or phone calls, but I never had any but probably would have used if I did. I started thinking about trying to find out from people I worked with "does anybody know anybody that can make a call to help my kid get back on the list? When reality finally hit, my knuckle headed kid still hadn't gotten the credits he needed in school yet, and may never and he didn't seem to care if he got "the job" or not. But in an old mans ramblings I'm finally getting to my point. So I never tried to help him and lo and behold 6 months later, I receive his email requesting for him to show up for the power test. No phone calls, no AOL saying there was a technical error, and as nice as the officer at personnel was, I don't think she ever asked my sons name, so as much as would like to think it could have been one or our own helping another, it come down to , I think, the city hurting for applicants.

Man, I'm not to used to all this one finger typing anymore, and I'm just used to somebody telling me to shut the f up ol' man when I talk to much. I know, I know, they're will be a bunch of people on the blog telling me to shut up ol man, but I'll probably be in the middle of my second nap of the day by the time that happens. Please stay safe.

They didn't fire the employee who refused to serve the officer, they only "suspeded" him. They fired his manager. Unacceptable.

I served in Iraq and Afghanistan but you wouldn't catch me in some Chicago neighborhoods. I have much respect for the police in this city. We'd deploy and then hopefully be back home safe, police are getting after it everyday. I want to say thank you!
