Fox Lake Manhunt Continues
- As night fell, scores of police in Lake County were continuing to search for three people believed to be responsible for fatally shooting a police lieutenant Tuesday morning, while residents of the small village he served mourned his death.
Despite a manhunt that besieged far north suburban Fox Lake all day, authorities said late Tuesday that no arrests had been made in the shooting death of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, a 30-year-veteran known in local law enforcement for his work with aspiring police officers. Gliniewicz, known to many as "Joe," was married with four children, according to police and family.
He'd recently discussed retiring as soon as this month, said Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit.
Thirty years and it ends this tragically. Hopefully, morning will being some news. RIP Lt. Gliniewicz.

This story has so many layers of tragedy and sadness. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and his department. Godspeed, Lt.
Traffic stops are getting dangerous. Are they worth it in the lives lost?
God bless you and your family. RIP. Hopefully the scumbags won't be taken alive.
RIP officer. My condolences to the family. The worst part is no death penalty for cop killers. Jagoff Ryan, Jagoff Quinn and all the other Illinois politicians who voted to abolish the death penalty you should all feel the pain of losing a loved one to senseless violence.
Rip Lt.. Death to the offenders!
Rest in eternal peace Officer Gliniewicz. Very sad for his family, friends and colleagues on the Fox Lake Police Department. I support law enforcement and hope that those responsible are brought to justice for this horrific crime. They deserve the death penalty.
I hope they find the B@stards, try them, convict them and execute them.
Oh, that's right, Ill-Annoy doesn't believe in the death penalty.
Condolences to his family and friends.
He was a good man who actually delayed his retirement to help the department. Let's pray for him and his family and for all the officers trying to bring his killers to justice.
A deputy in Walworth County was hurt in a crash while responding to assist Lake Geneva PD in what turned out to be a false sighting of the suspects just across the state line. Thankfully the injury was minor.
Rest in Peace our brother...
The fox lake train line near the murder runs right through the NW side of Chicago otw to union station. Offenders could have gotten on and off train anywhere along that line. Keep eyes open and report ANY suspicious people in your neighborhood.
My heart is broken. May the Lord be with his family at this tragic time.
War on Cops
Another TX cop killed at his house yesterday too
Perhaps the offenders are ex-Chicago residents?
RIP brother seems to me he made quite the impact in the community & was sincerely supported & mourned. I feel bad for his family & friends my deepest sympathy & condolences!!!!
Hope they catch those assholes soon and they get what is coming to them.
Tribune publishes photo of Antioch home of Fox Lake officer online.
ABC had reported in front of Antioch FD where slain officer's brother worked....
This is a real tragedy. The sickest part is that they stripped him of his duty belt.
Joe Walsh spent an hour on Monday at 5 p.m. AM 560 in support of the police discussing the murder in Texas. Put the blame squarely on Obama. He can send representatives to Ferguson but no mention or support of any of these police murders. There is no reason any police officer or police officers family should support a Democrat in today's day and age when they are so anti police. This attitude starts at the top with the White House and the Justice Department. It's a travesty they will support the thugs, but not the police, what a shame
By all accounts, a good man will be sorely missed by family, friends and community.
The "silent majority" of citizens solidly support our local police; we are happy you live with us in our neighborhoods and the more we rub elbows with you, the more we all benefit from a close relationship.
There has never been a better time for both cops and the people in the communities who employ them to find an even closer relationship. The People-of-Chaos appear to be on the rise, almost like a fictional Zombie Apocalypse. They are the enemies of peace and order, but in appearance they mimic harmless citizens (like a coral snake looks like a king snake.)
I hope these three demons are found soon. They must truly be vile AND stupid to think there is any future for someone who fights and kills a police officer who is doing his job.
May he rest in peace! Police are being murdered countrywide but yet nothing from Obama or the crew at the White House! If you look on you tube and find the statement by sheriff David Clarke Milwaukee county's sheriff he lays the blame on as he calls it "black slime" crowd and Obama! What kind of man especially a so called president says nothing? A father 4 kids fox lake lieutenant oldest child just getting drivers license a former army soldier killed not overseas but in our country in our state by thugs! Personally as a father just retired Cpd officer I have tears of anger that this happened and you know what even retired promise you this if I ever see a blue brother or sister officer in need I will be there to help "our family" anywhere I travel!
I hope CPD swat or helicopter unit is assisting. Anyone have any information?
May St. Michael the Archangel receive him with open arms and seat him at the right hand of The Father.
Either one of them lives there, or they slipped out long ago..
COPS LIVES MATTER !!
Fucking savages,
RIP Lt.
JUST A CITIZEN:
It dawned on me yesterday while listening to the news update on this. All LE are being HUNTED. Like wild animals. HUNTED, like prey.
God bless you men and women who leave your home everyday not knowing if you are going to make it home because now more than ever, thanks to OBAMA the ultimate shit-stirrer, LE-HATER, and all around POS, you are in extreme danger.
Prayers for all of you. Prayers for his family and friends.
Two cpd U.S. marshal teams were asked to volunteer to go up there to assist in the hunt by the Great Lakes fugitive task force guys. This was shot down by the c/o of the cpd unit saying that with the drive up there and back plus the possibility it could be a while that he would not approve any overtime for it. What in the world has happened to this department? Aren't those guys paid overtime from the federal grants anyways??? But hey, go get those 5 year old englewood traffic warrants and you can drop a slip for a whole team.. #companyman #coward
He was known as GI Joe to everyone in the Fox Lake Community including his co-workers
God bless him and his family. Heartbroken over this. I know the boys and girls in blue will not rest until they find these guys and bring them in. Police Lives Matter, Too!
Windy City ACC
My prayers are with this officer
his family and all of our law enforcement family.
God has a special place in heaven for the peacekeepers.
Was to retire a month ago, but was asked to stay on a month - that just made me sick. RIP.

Condolences to the family. We need to form a group: "Blue Lives Matter."

This morning we lost one of our own at his own hands. Sgt DM was a true gentleman and he will be sorely missed. He left a very cryptic post on his FB account last night sounding very despondent over the death of the Lt in Fox Lake. We are in this together!! Please, please please call someone if you are havering issues. All 911, call a friend call EAP but by god call someone!
Godspeed DM and Lt GI Joe
Rest in Peace Brother...
Everyone Stay Safe, keep watch over each other.
Going to and from work you may be the most vulnerable. Take enough time so you don't have to hurry. Make sure your car is reliable and when you drive don't tailgate and don't attract attention to yourself.
Always go armed, cell phone charged, have the numbers of the districts you travel through in the phone. You may get a faster response calling the desk than calling 9-1-1. Study your route, know where there are places to run to if you break down or have and accident. Places like hospitals, all night stores and gas stations.
Our boss said that if you do break down on the way to or from work, call in and we will send someone out to you.
Stay Safe, the most dangerous thing we do is drive.
RIP LT.
Such a terrible tragedy. 32 years of devoted service, plus close to that in Army/Reserves, plus countless hours in the Explorers program for young people -- and snatched away from life, from his family, just a month before retiring. He was ready to go, except that the mayor asked him to stay on another month, so he did, giving even more to his community.
Local residents turning out in support here --

So very sorry. Prayers and best wishes to family, friends, and Fox Lake PD, and Godspeed to everyone else who is helping out in the investigation.
You will find these guys.
Stay safe, all.

Ofc. weapon was reportedly found near the scene. Newspaper says so.
The offenders will trip themselves up yet. You watch.
Perri Smalls on WVON said this morning that the blame for this officers death lies squarely on the "racism" of the citizen who called in the suspicious persons he was followimg up on. I am not shocked but I am disgusted by her statement.
Oh. They got the animal who savagely attacked that poor young woman in Willowbrook. Caught him in South Bend. Car with Indiana plates was found abandoned in Brookfield & towed.
That didn't take long -- and you three are next.
Believe it.

METRA cut off service to the Fox Lake station almost immediately yesterday, don't know about today. That area of the rail line was very heavily checked out, overflown, etc. I'm sure everyone is doing their utmost here.
God"s speed my brother.
R.I.P. to the officer and his family.
Tribune pg 2 nice article about officers lives matter. Thank you mark k
This officer was one month away from retirement and then he was killed in the line of duty. This reminds me of the tragic murder of P.O. Richard Francis. He also had one more month to go before he was killed.
time to demand 2 man cars round the clock
First of all, RIP Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz.
Secondly: From everything I have read and heard about him, he represents what every cop on the job should be measured against. If there ever was a poster boy for what a cop shoud be, he seems to fill the bill.
I was the ghetto CPD and I understand the "let them kill themselves off" mentality and promote the idea of "layin'" down in the city during these times to protect yourself and your family first. The brass/city WILL NOT back you up.
But this was a guy who gave to his community and did serve and protect them by investigating suspicious activity where he was. Were the mutts going through yards, looking in cars? I don't know but something was not right and he did the right thing. It just hurts to the fucking core how things turned out.
Raise a glass of something in his honor!

What?!
I saw an Evanston P.D, car out there. Are we helping?
Perhaps the offenders are ex-Chicago residents
And perhaps they're life long residents Fox Lake.
Newsflash!!! All assholes don't live in Chicago. Moron
I saw the State Police were on scene. If I ever wanted anything from Leo Schmitz-this is it. Leo-I think you're a great officer and I am praying that you, and all of the other officers there, will find or receive some clue and catch these cold blooded killers of one of our own.
CPD helicopter? Naw.. Its probably broke down again..
The "Silent Majority" are moral cowards for allowing
The War on The Police to reach this point...
And it's going to get much worse.
Thank You media for fanning the flames.
It's human nature to turn your backs on your
Protectors and watchmen.
The real problems begin when you realize you
have nothing in common with what's vaulting
through your window.
For you young pups and old law dogs?
Police like you have no friends.
I have a bad feeling about this case. This has the feel of a case where the offenders may not be found the longer this goes.
06:48 am 2SEP - i'm lucky enough to have a pontoon boat on the Chain & yes - the former CHA residents can be encountered in the Round Lake/Fox Lake area along Rollins Rd. The first few years saw fighting between the entrenched latino gangs & black gangs until commercial considerations brought an uneasy truce. At about the same time, several CPD officers with a solid background began teaching suburban officers via NEMERT training. The concealed compartments course was always filled with eager/attentive officers. Like the CPD, What most of the suburban agencies face is lack of manpower. Fox Lake annexed land up to IL Rte 173 & south to Rte 134. Most shifts have only 3 officers. The only public safety growth was an additional firehouse on State Park Rd. The FOP had several battles with the village trustees and layoffs occured.
The problems are the same - gangs & politicians. What is different is that the average citizen vocally supports the police. They need to channel their concerns to the politicos & vote them out of office when they fall short of "supporting public safety."
On a personal note, i met Lt Gliniewicz several times on a social level. He was all the adjectives that we use to describe a good officer. Besides being the Explorer advisor he helped establish their SWAT team. The other CPD members who frequent the Chain O Lakes and met/knew him will echo my sentiments.
R I P LT. GLINIEWICZ your wiilingness to delay your retirement was typical of your devotion to your career & community
God Bless your family & co-workers as Law Enforcement searches for your assailants.
As far as the train goes, they stopped the trains asap, AND cameras have been installed at all Metra stations and trains since 2006. Why can't they find these guys? Some random spontaneous police Chase on foot through a marsh ends up leaving 3 people with a clean break? No prints, hairs, scent? Somethings weird.
These killings of police officers must be stopped! How can for example the new black panther party state publicly that they will hunt police is that not terrorism? What has the White House said about all the police being murdered? Crickets we have each other brother and sister in blue! And our families this is going to be like the original mad max movie anarchy everywhere! May the lieutenant RIP! May the killers be found and be taking a dirt nap!
My deepest condolences to the Officer and his family.
@Anonymous 08:19:00 AM
CPD Helicopter was offered, but closer-in available air units took over at the 12 hour limit mark at 20:00 on 09/01. Many agencies were called up but spent the day held at distant staging areas because of the immediate deluge of assistance. The massive response was reflective of our collective being. RIP Joe, let's get these bastards.
I hope these three demons are found soon. They must truly be vile AND stupid to think there is any future for someone who fights and kills a police officer who is doing his job.
9/02/2015 07:45:00 AM
They'll indeed be found. And there is a high probability they'll be found in the 011th District, or Superior, Wisconsin. Save yourself-gun up, pray and vote Trump.
This is a very concerning time to be a police office, but I can see the light in this tragedy - Fox Lake community came out in force to show their support for a fallen officer. Where are the politicians, where is the press, and where is this asshole priest from Chicago??? Sure there are bad apples among cops, they are everywhere, but someone has to stop the open season on police.
And yet Fox Lake and Houstin are Not rioting and burning down their neighborhoods....Where is Jessie, Father Phleager,Al Sharpton.....?Guess Blue Lives are just not that important in the Grand Scheme of things. I'm just so over the Political verbage... Call it like it is , but Not on camera or you'll be on desk.... Or out !!!
Blue Lives matter.... They keep US safe.
Heads down and watch your back.
Sorry to say Obama really has nothing to do with all this street bullshit. It's been going on for over 40yrs. The population of certain districts Has seen an exponential growth of " poor, misunderstood ,trying to get by" youths!!??? Go back to the late 50s/60s when the BlackStone Rangers first appeared. Different names but same tactics. Some of you were there and can see where it has escalated to.
Keep on keepin' on. Blue definitely Matters.
RIP Lt. Joe.
I see these idiot tact guys still going into side streets in the west side looking for that dope pinch, what will it take for you knuckleheads to stop doing proactive police work in the blm community. Oh fop a national movement is also taking place, NO MORE 99 UNITS AT ALL NO EXCUSES!!!
An old timer once told me....."I've never seen a cop get fired for doing nothing, but I've seen a lot of cops get fired for doing something" It's time for police to protect themselves and do nothing.
FOX LAKE is allowing and coordinating sworn volunteers, to assist in the manhunt.
Spent my day off being more and more disgusted by our society. I'm glad they caught that monster who attacked that girl in Willowbrook. I'm a grown man and it brought tears to my eyes to see that father on the news after telling his daughter they caught the animal. Now we need to find the 3 animals who killed Lt Joe. I wish I could do more, but our country seems to be lost. Too much violence and evil. I hope I can still find a peaceful place when I retire.

NO ONE called 911 for a suspicious person.
The lieutenant observed the three men in a place where it's unusual to see ANYONE and he self-initiated the stop.
The tapes of his radio call and subsequent conversation with the dispatcher were released and every media outlet has access to them.
8:08 p.m isn't it obvious?
Please don't let ol' soft-cheeks 11:04:00 PM above taint your attitude. You guys signed on to do a tough job. If you don't want it, quit. But know that as long as you're out there, there are some of us among the citizens who are watching out for you. No, we're not cops. No, we can't do much to help you. But if the SHTF, if we're in the vicinity, we're stepping up. Don't worry. We mind our own business. You almost won't know we're there. Until no one else is, and you need a hand, and we're passing by. That's all I'm going to say.
Blue lives matter!
I attended the candle light vigil for the Lt. Gliniewicz out in Fox Lake last night. I was a very nice memorial for the Lt. and his family. And the community. In all my years on the CPD, in all of the Police funerals I have attended I have never seen such a nice memorial for a murdered Police Officer. What made it nice was the fact that it was the COMMUNITY that came out in a show of support, not just the Police. It is the COMMUNITY that is grieveing, not just the family. I have never seen anything like it. There were Police Officers from around the area as far away as Joliet. Our own CPD mounted unit was there and led the procession of Police cars and the family out of the park. The Boy Scouts that the Lt. worked with were there as well as the Explorers that he helped establish.
We/you in Chicago work in an enviorment that encourages violence against the Police. You work in an enviorment in which the political structure/system disrespects you everyday and encourages the same treatment from it's citizens. In Chicago your life is not viewed as being very important simply because you are a Police Officer. When you leave Chicago however that seems to change. The Police are not viewed out here as an opposing Army. They are viewed as what they are. An entity that stands between good and evil. They are respected. They are liked, maybe even loved. It was refreshing to see Police Officers treated the way they should be treated. With respect and dignity.
God Bless Police Officers everywhere and RIP Lt. Joe.

Police say woman's lie diverted manhunt for Illinois officer's killers
September 03, 2015
"Police searching for the suspected killers of an Illinois officer said early Thursday that the manhunt was diverted by a woman who lied about seeing two suspicious men near the scene of the murder.
"Kristin Kiefer, 30, has been charged with disorderly conduct and falsifying a police report. Authorities said she was being held at the Lake County jail pending a bond hearing.
"Police said they responded to a 911 call made by Kiefer at approximately 9:20 p.m. local time Wednesday in Volo, about 5 miles south of Fox Lake, where Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was fatally shot Tuesday after he pursued three suspicious men into a swamp.
"Kiefer told police she had pulled over to the side of the road with car trouble when she saw two men, one white and one black, near a cornfield. She claimed they tried to get into her car, but fled because they feared she was going to call the police.
"Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Covelli says about 85 federal, state and local law enforcement officials responded to the scene after Kiefer's report. They were joined by 11 police dogs and three air support units in the search, which lasted approximately five hours.
"Police said Kiefer initially insisted that her account was true, but later admitted that she had lied. She said she was seeking attention from a family that employs her as a nanny and that she chose the location because it was close to where Gliniewicz had been shot."

She should be made to pay for every penny of this -- the night helo operations, the OT, everything.

Thank you, Mayor Daley, for kicking over those high-rise anthills. Now everyone's got bugs in their kitchen, they are slingin in Batavia and cruising Willowbrook looking for victims, and it's Narcan time for fifty miles around.
Obama's HUD is drawing up the maps of "white privilege" areas right now, to finish the job on a nationwide basis.

That is how those people are. Everything is racism. I never want to see them again.
This goes straight to the "Dear Leader" occupying the White House. In July of 2009 after the dust-up between the professor and the Cambridge PD, the Dear Leader announced that he didn't have all the facts, but "the Cambridge police acted stupidly."
It's a pretty straight 6-year old line that leads from that statement to where things are today, with episodes of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown adding emphasis along the way.

Fox Lake is controlling the information they release to the media, instead of regurgitating every detail the instant they get it.

Sgt.Saunders - I hope you don't mind, I shared your comment on my FB page. I've lived in Fox Lake my whole life and can tell you that our community loves our LEOs. We are all hurting. Thank you for your nice words.
It is a shame that you all are not treated with the dignity and respect that the badge represents.
Public viewing for Lt. Gliniewicz will begin at 9 a.m. at Antioch High School, the Lake County sheriff's office announced Thursday afternoon. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the high school, 1133 Main St., and a procession after the service will lead to a burial at Hillside East Cemetery, also in Antioch.

Aside from apparent new video evidence which has gone to the analysts at FBI...they cleared the top-crap off the crime scene today with weed-whackers and machetes and so forth, gridded it out systematically, and had ofc. down on hands and knees with their noses in the dirt, looking, looking, scraping around .. and came up with physical evidence they describe as being "extremely significant."
GOOD GOING!
..and they ain't nearly done yet.
This dreadful murder will not stand. Nope.

Hiya, Sweetie. Prayers for all in this terrible tragedy, which has affected folks in the whole Midwest area a very great deal.
"God bless you and keep you all and hold you in the palm of his hand."
Better than I could ever put it. Just want EVERYONE up there to know that you are in our thoughts all the time.
All the best.
..and stop by any time. You are always welcome, and will never find anything but friends here.
Heartbreak, that I know, all too well. So terribly sorry for your -- our -- great loss.
Tuesday will be a month now and nothing...So many questions unanswered. I heard his dispatch call and it was only for 2 men. 1 black, 1 white. Where did the 3rd come in? Why didn't he describe what the suspects were wearing and what color hair the white guy had? A 30 year vet would surely figure they might split up? What is taking so long for ballistics?
