- 120 in 005
- 150 in 003
No way to tell if any of those numbers are true without one of our regular readers at Personnel drops us a line, but damn, those are pretty strong indications that (A) people are sick of the ghetto or (B) people are sick of the supervisory structure in those locations. Even if the numbers given are half of what the comments claim, it's a big issue.
Now, a decent manager/supervisor would look at those numbers and ask themselves, "What is so wrong in my organization that people are bailing or attempting to bail out of these positions?" Of course, we have no decent managers or supervisors anymore, so a giant red flag like this will be ignored. People will continue to leave until such time as the Department can send a bunch of green kids who don't know the first thing about police work to go in and get into all sorts of trouble. Lawsuits, CR's, harassment complaints, more lawsuits, maybe even corrupt practices etc. and the city ends up paying out to lawyers and plaintiffs when it all could have been prevented via a simple analysis of the paperwork.

Look at this objectively, and put the ego aside for one second. If someone cared about you on this job, would they leave you in one of those Dist's? Add on 002,006, 007, 010 and 015.
THEY SUCK! It's the fucking Ghetto. Ok, some of those places might have good Bosses, but do you think that those Bosses BID THERE? They were assigned, and have no juice. Do you think they burned a phone call to GO TO 005?
They burn a phone call to GET OUT of places like that.
Face it, you're in PATROL. And no one really cares about PATROL. If they cares about you, you'd be in a UNIT.
Years ago, 005 used to be a pretty good place to work. Commander wasn't too bad, Bosses on the Watch took care of the Cops. Most of the Tact/Gang Teams had good Sgt's. Then... Good old Capt CW was assigned to 005.
"We have to put her somewhere." was what 35th St said.
She not only micro-managed and fucked with the Officers (workers and the dogs) on her watch, she did the same to the other two watches, and to Tact & Gangs. There was a mass exodus from there. If I recall, it averaged about 75 PAR forms a period for YEARS, to get out of the Wild-Hundreds.
All because of ONE boss.
If that same exodus happened in Narcotics, Gang Intel, Intel, Airports, Mass Trans, the old SOS, even TRU. That ONE PERSON would have been moved.
"Hey Captain, you're in charge of this utility closet. It's ALL YOURS!" could have been easily done. If she was in a Unit? That would have happened in about 2 weeks. However, it's a District, and shitty one at that.
001 / 018? Way too Politically Connected. Same with 016 & 022. 004 used to be like that, but "Fast Eddie" slowed up and got caught. 009? Daley's moved out, there's some that still know where the bodies are buried, but it's not what it once was. Everywhere else on the South or West sides no one really cares about.
So put your PAR form in, hopefully you make it out of the Ghetto and to a better place. Realize quickly that the 1st & 16th don't change!

Even though less that 1/4 of the people will make a bid, this should (but we all know it won't) make the department wake up and see how miserable people are. But then again, that could only happen if the top brass gave a shit about the working copper!

11th district
You already know. She wasn't ready
The problem with 003 isn't really the bosses, if you ask me all bosses are a problem. And any of the bosses demands in 003 are just coming from up the chain.
Anyway, the problem in 003 is the influx of new kids the last 3 years. They all bitch and moan about how bad it is and how much they hate it. They can't even give you a valid reason. They all want to go saturation or some other hot shot unit. Totally bypassing learning how to do any actual work. Most of them can't even communicate properly on the radio let alone write something worth a damn.
TL;DR new kids in 003 are babies.
SCC, you're painting with a rather broad brush. There's plenty of great policemen who are great bosses left in the Department. Area North has dozens in the various districts. In my district we're lousy with competent, ghetto proven sergeants and lieutenents who are respected and relied upon by the patrolman. I dare flatter myself that I count amongst that group. But you won't see any of us commanding a district or area headquarters in the "D" anytime soon and no one is in any rush to pin a gold star on our blouse. You'll notice the mass exodus is seen in those districts that have Jones-and yes he was at least double merit, a consumate imbecile during his brief tenure at A/4 VC, or West, triple merit and arguably the most lackadaisical and uninspired detective who never cleared a case by arrest. But we also have a large number of good bosses in other areas of the city. Its just that we can't be trusted to do whats expected when the "Vanecko" phone call comes in during the middle of the night so we'll just sit tight and be happy we have great policemen in our charge who once in a while might need some assistance, or direction or even a small fire lit beneath them. And i'd feel badly if they left the district because of me.
POs in 018 will continue to file Civil Suits against supervisors as long as the Department can send a bunch of Clouted Sponges who don't know the first thing about management and discipline to go in and get into all sorts of trouble. Lawsuits, CR's, harassment complaints, more lawsuits, maybe even corrupt practices etc. and the city ends up paying out to lawyers and plaintiffs when it all could have been prevented via a simple analysis of the paperwork.
A lot less stress on the north side districts. Understandable. Pay and benefits are the same.

I think you answered your own question.
Most of us are DONE with pro-active police work even in slower districts.
We want to retire and leave this awful city WITHOUT losing our homes or pensions.
You have to be NUTS to stay in high crime districts where the average IQ hovers around 50.

just keep letting people go wherever they want. open up bid spots to units (districts) so that the par form bid from district to district isn't also ruined by clout favoritism. Sad when people are using phone calls just for a lousy transfer.
Also, most cops would agree that if you don't need your vest and gun, work inside, and you're off weekends and holidays, go ahead and keep your spot, but not the duty availability supplement.
That's probably a couple million right there, it could go to increase the duty availability pay for those who push beat cars 24/7 and actually do deal with changes to their schedule on an almost daily basis.
All the good lieutenants are leaving or have retired to go else where good luck MR.

I did, and I came on it 91.
I just could not handle my unit any longer. Going from one great spot to another, going to be a dog on days, and have lunch at home from now on.
I'll be working the Western foot post by the end of the year.

Same thing happened in 015th when West took over. She destroyed morale and was the worst Commander ever to step foot in 015th. So many great working officers left it was terrible. Now she is doing the same to 011.

22 is no bargain, most supervisors, Lt and Sgts, are pretty good but you have a captain and commander who have the personality of a shoe fly. They both act superior to everyone else and demand idiotic stuff. 22 has had an increase in shootings and murders, guess what it's just like the rest of the south side. Start by keeping these assholes in jail instead of coddling them.
More prisons, more guards and more beds, if u want to help them come up with viable policies inside the prison. Teach them a skill or a trade and then when they are released have a government based business, run by govt officials/law enforcement, that they can use their trade knowledge on. This can be part of their probation as well as mandatory drug testing with actual penalties for violations.

Take your pick, you can stay as close as Park Ridge, Glenview, Wilmette and others or flee Cook Co. or leave the state. There are places where the savage isn't raping, murdering or destroying-on your dime! Exploring readily available demographics is a good first step, and proximity to high quality trout waters is the big draw for me! Keep an Illinois address to protect your pension from state taxes. 29 and a day comes quick so start burning up Zillow right now. Your kids deserve better.

There has always been, and will always be, do nothing, dog asses, looking for any reason to justify accepting the check, but not do shit to earn it. This is nothing new.
When I came on, the excuse was they were mad at the bosses.
Then, it was "Why should I work, when promotions and good job spots aren't awarded fairly?"
This "I aint doing shit because I might get sued" is just the latest, in their never ending litany of excuses.
Here's what you do: Find an old timer who still does the job...a worker. There are still plenty of us out there.
Ask him if the "I don't do shit no mo, cause I might get sued" guy was ever a worker?

And yes, she went to IAD for an incident, and was called down there more than once for it (happens to almost everyone that gets called down). Grow up.
