He Cocked Back the Gun....
- Police shot and killed a man on Chicago's West Side Friday night.
Police say officers were responding to a domestic call in the 900 block of N. Central Park Ave. around 9:00 p.m. when they came across a man with what appeared to be a knife or a sharp object in his hand.
According to police, the man refused to put the weapon down. Police say officers attempted to taser the man twice, but it had no effect.
Police say the man then attempted to approach officers and that's when an officer shot him.
The man's mother identified him as 34-year-old, James Anderson.
Pamela Anderson says her son had mental health issues and that she had previously called police for help with her son.
Anderson says she called police Friday night hoping someone could come take her son to Loretto Hospital for psychiatric help.
When officers arrived, Anderson says she asked officers to take her son to the hospital. Anderson says the officers asked if her son had a gun or knife on him. Anderson said she told officers that her son was not dangerous, but that he did keep a box cutter in his pocket.
Anderson contradicts the police account saying officers did not taser her son before shooting him.
"When he pulled his gun out and cocked it back, I said 'sir, you don't have to pull that gun back, you don't have to cock it back. He's not going to hurt you,'" said Anderson.
Make that Exhibit A in the defense's refutation of the inevitable lawsuit - Chicago hasn't authorized a weapon that is "cocked" in over 20 years now. So Mama's story is complete bullshit right out of the box.

I would like to congratulate the mayor, aldermen, superintendent, cook county judges and the illinois state parole board on your 50th homicide in september. Its been a tough one but with a lot of incompetence, lack of accountability and responsibility, stupidity, smoke and mirrors, failed policies and letting repeat offenders back on the street you were able to get the job done. Lack of efficiency in leadership positions is something that chicago takes great pride in. I salute you for keeping that tradition going.

Again the dismantling of the mental healthcare system has brought senseless death. People who are mentally ill need care and some need to be institutionalized , plain and simple. To continue to ignore this fact will allow this and other tragedies to continue to happen. God bless the officers involved glad they are safe. Whenever we use lethal force, or any force for that matter, on a person with mental problems, there are questions about the legitimate use of force on a person with mental problems. The city of Chicago should have a policy to first dispatch an ambulance to calls of persons who should, in the opinion of the caller, must the subjected to psychiatric review. If, and only if, CFD can not handle the person because they are in fear of of their own or others personal safety, then CFD can summon CPD. That way if we must use any force, there is more justification and additional witness who can attest to the need for legitimate force.

I have a revolver. Never have I "COCKED" the hammer to fire. Just pull the trigger. I wasn't trained in the academy to pull the hammer back first. As a matter of fact we were specifically trained NOT to "COCK" the hammer. Next she'll say he was packing the bore with black powder of his musket. Or is this the only copper that carries a genuine 1870's "Peace Maker" where the hammer is cocked for every volley.
On scene the cameraman said, "cut" and this mutt stopped crying. When the coppers moved them out of the scene to the corner the cameraman then said, "ok action" and she started crying again!
Thank god he didn't make it to the hospital.

Actually you must not know your weapon system that well, it isn't, lack of maintenance and dropping a a revolver can knock off its timing, therefor the firing pin will not hit the primer and no bang. Seeing revolver guys know everything, you probably knew that all ready. My subcompact 9 has never failed me in the 3500 rounds I've fired through it over the years.

Relax 7:30, revolver steal your girl or something? I carry a glock and the revolver as a backup. Up until 93 I carried a 357, still have it at home. Never had any issues with mine and know guys that did have some but shit happens with a lot of guns. Know your firearm, keep it clean and know when to take it out of service. Lastly, don't knock guys that like wheel guns, what the fuck do you care.
If he was a patient at Loretto Hospital that is why he was having a mental "episode" and carrying a box cutter. They give the worst care at that hospital and have a reputation for denying care to minorities.
Btw, I was in an incident 8 years ago during a narcotics operation. Had my glock in my coat pocket, didn't have time to draw so I went to shoot through the pocket. Pocket restricted the slide and was only able to get one shot off. Luckily that one was enough. I remember thinking I wouldn't of had that issue with a revolver and should have had the snub with me instead that night. Guns have come a long way since wheel guns and I wouldn't feel the same on duty without my glock. It's simply a backup or another option. Main option for some on this thread apparently. Get yourself one to throw in your pocket for a late night run to the store or whatever. If your like me and don't like being unarmed anytime, you won't be with a decent one with the right ammo
