A Third Term?

  • On the same say that the City Council approved Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s $7.8 billion 2016 budget, he says he wants to keep his job when his current term is over.

The mayor sat down with CBS 2 [...].

“You know its gonna stand the test of time of having been right for stabilizing what was bleeding, and that’s what you would want out of public service: a selfless act,” Emanuel said.

The mayor sat down with [CBS] just hours after passing a painful budget. He admitted that he is now reconsidering an earlier pledge not to seek a third term.
Last time he didn't have much of a record to run on and managed to make Chewbacca look like a man without a plan. Now? Rahm is known as the guy who couldn't get a casino deal done to spare taxpayers, the guy who presided over the biggest tax increase in history, and should a casino actually come to fruition now, the guy who enriched insiders at the expense of property tax owners.

We could run a campaign and garner enough votes to have a decent shot at the 5th Floor. Prickwrinkle or her minions, who actually have a political organization, will be in prime position to bury Rahm if he sticks around and doesn't flee back to Washington under a democratic regime.

I'm telling you, rahm isn't going anywhere. He's going to be like Daley. 4 terms, minimum. Mrs. Rahm wants to have as normal a life as possible. She doesn't want to leave again. At least not while her kids are still in school here.

He's got a lock on it like Daley did.
Daley was a piece of shit and got reelected every time without an outside threat.
Who's gonna run against him and actually try and win? Any real threat will be taken care of by the Rahm machine.

Not a Rahm fanboy but at least he isn't kicking the can down the road. He is funding OUR pension and making good on decades of broken promises. Would you rather he wasn't?

I am betting that by Hook or Crook our beloved Dear Leader Obama somehow serves a third term as our president. So, why shouldn't Rahm serve a third term as our mayor?

Now he's considering a 3rd term. Of course he is! He now knows how lucrative and untouchable the position of Mayor in Chicago is! He can be kingpin in his own little corrupt world and steal far more money than he could in some second rate position in Washington.

He will get a third term. The voters will vote for him a third term and then a fourth and a fifth if he so chooses. What is so fucking hard about kicking out incumbent politicians? The way these politicians accrue so much power and influence is by being in the political game for 20-40 years. For those idiots who want term limits; we already have term limits; it's called election day.

Sounds like the Nine Digit Midget is hedging his bets. If Clinton doesn't get the White House, then Tiny Dancer may be stuck in Shitcago which ruins his plans of returning to Washington. So he needs a spot where he is king thus the third term.

Good to know Hillary is in trouble. Bad to know we are stuck with this turd.

I think Rahm saw there were too many Presidential candidates still with the 2016 election. I also think he thought Chicago would be a quick fix and make him look good. I honestly believe he's going to run for President in 2020. Chicago downtown is booming. He's has big supporters and Chicago downtown is going to continue to grow. He just has to figure out how to keep the lid on the violence which makes Chicago look bad. If you took out the violence in Chicago, you'd be amazed at how much it is growing. But people only can focus on one thing at a time.

The property tax was needed to save our penisons. Yes they were mismanaged for for years but it needed to be done. I would way rather have Rahm (who by the way called out the shithead mentality) then super uber police hating Preckwinkle. I mean why such a shit show about this tax increase its $500 over five years. Its nothing.

You cannot forget that he was a Daley fundraiser and enabler who helped those who kicked the can down the road for twenty years.

Given the choice, I'd much rather have asshole Rahm here than asshole Hillary in the White House. We can sacrifice a city. A country? Not so much, although some would argue the good ol' USA is almost kaput. Pick your poison so to speak.

Our recently-eleted mayor didn't have a choice in the matter, because the funding payment was mandated by State law and our credit rating was bottomed out. I would have preferred the recently-elected mayor managing this mess was named Chuy Garcia, however.

Yes, and the Constitution is going to be repealed, too, not just the 22nd Amendment.

The can is still being kicked down the road. In four years the mayor has borrowed 5.7 billion dollars. The city's debt is 7 billion. Now add 5.7 billion. Who borrows like that? We will be paying exorbitant interest on this for years. Chicago will never be the same. It has become something it can never come back from. All because they wasted the money when they had it, used the pension money for pet projects, sold the parking meters which cut out billions in revenue to the city and taxpayers are adding billions to tif slush funds. There has been o reform here, just wasted and heartache for years and years to come.

Rahm isn't going anywhere. He would rather be a star player on a bad team than a lineman on the 1990's Buffalo Bills. His ego demands it. He doesn't know the meaning of "team first".

Patronage and the All Souls Day voting bloc. Whoever counts the votes controls them. Chicagoans wanted anyone but Rahm, hence Chuy's support.
