A Tun(ney) of Openings
Looks like Tunney's first wave of openings in 019 came up yesterday - the openings he bargained for with his vote for Rahm's $600 million tax increase:
- 001 - 2
002 - 5
012 - 2
014 - 4
018 - 2
019 - 15
020 - 5
A few Sergeant openings, too, but those are management moves - 002, 003, 015, 016, 019, 020, 025 - not unexpected when a class starts up. Probably a bunch more are the other class goes in December.

Nope. Those are in addition to the 35 with inside jobs who are being replaced by civilians. That's the deal he cut with Rahm. He sent a letter to a constituent where it's all explained. It's posted on change.org.
These openings are the ones McCarthy promised him in the budget hearings when he apologized for letting the number of officers drop due to retirements.

They get scared from the yuppies who want to get a cr# on officers for made up nonsense. Also too much micromanagement. Ever since the big merger life in 019 sucks. A huge area to cover and not enough manpower.
His longtime admin Sgt was assigned to a nice spot not too far back, so my guess is there is some truth. He took him with on every move and now suddenly SO has found another spot....hmmm. Cant confirm but I am leaning towards yes. That said I say Good Luck to him....he was a class act. His interpretation was a little too by the book but at least you knew what you got.
019....once a great place to work. Maybe it will be again, but they ruined it for so many of us that called it home. Now a distant memory. Alas...

None for 009??????? 3rd watch is depleted guys working 99 which is dangerous I believe because of the anti police climate. I thought only days per contract could work 99? Anyone know the correct answer?

wonder if I can get on that new bike task force that Tunney is forming to take back Belmont & the El..with Toms & the citizens backing, I know I can make a difference there unlike the Westside where Im now..alot of legends came from 19...

If you think this is a busy district you must really be an all out dog. There aren't many CR's here at all in reality so you don't know what you are talking about. Micromanagement? There is no management. The officers here do whatever they want when they want. Been that way for a long time. The only thing you are right about is there is not enough manpower. Ridiculously low in fact!! Stop crying and just do your job. If you hate it so much, bid out. The last few that bid out were no loss at all to the district. 95% of them were do nothings and the watches were glad to see them go.

This is so true. Very busy, too many scared REAL POLICE, and way too much area to cover. Worst thing they did was merge the two districts together. Look at how many cops have bid out. Also one last thing, do you really think that an extra 15 spots are gonna help.
Oh also forgot about the terrible traffic coming and going to work. Cubs games are a nightmare.

They are sending fifteen cops into 019. Be careful. It's hell there. 009 can't compare. 005 is a garden spot compared to 019. Start powerblasting Starbucks coffee now. It's the only thing that will save you.

Wrong dummy. You must be a hair gel that doesn't know how to read the order distributed yearly during the watch selection process. Watch bids EVERYWHERE are due on Tuesday 17 Nov and selected on Wednesday 18 Nov. If you made the bid to a new district you should be made aware by late Monday (72 hours from the time the notice was posted by your WOL on Friday when openings were announced). You will then be instructed to call in and/or fax and/or hand carry your watch selection form to your new home..... In plenty of time to bid for watch. That said let's see if MLAS and the FLOP can actually pull this off without fucking it up. PS - get some time on the job kid and don't open your mouth about things of which you know nothing.

12 is a sinking ship. Kulbida has created an environment that has made arrest go down, contact cards go down etc...while crime has gone up. Moral is low too. The good news???? He's only got a couple years left til he's forced out. Stay away unless you are a dog. This is the perfect place as you will be rewarded by mr Vegas himself. Racial tensions are at an all time high too

019 is all about tickets and contact cards at certain times of the day. You want to compete with Revenue...go to 019 or 018 or 020 or 024. You want to work...go elsewhere.
Don't go to 019, sucks.
Everyone who came to 019 to slow down from a ghetto district loves it, a welcome change of pace. Bosses range like anywhere else, but nothing to make it unpleasant. Slow rolling here. However if u still want to chase dope and guns stay where u r at. Very busy my ass...only on the weekends at midnights for a few hours and during festivals/games.

McLush and his NY lapdog stood right there on the stage and plain outright lied to everyone on the stage that night at Lakeview HS a few weeks before the merge.

U gotta be kidding me. Been in 019 for 2 years and have never seen zone 2 in a rap (radio assignments pending). Cry me a river old man rivers. Manpower could be better though like anywhere else.
Bid based upon your needs, and not those of anyone on this blog. The 19th District isn't a bad place to work. I have never had any problems with any of the Sergeants or supervisory staff. Don't be discouraged by what you read here from other cops. Plenty of good places to eat, and not everyone is out to kill you. Besides the crazies in uptown, and the drunks along the bars on Clark Street, it's a nice district.
To the loud mouth who knows nothing and thinks 019 is such a slow district, why don't you bid in and show us how it's done tough guy.
Ive been in 019 for years and its not a bad district to work in because work is there if you look for it. Unfortunately, alot of coppers crowned 019/023 the retirement district and many continue to be whining; do nothing; paper jumping dog asses. One continuing problem that I see is the entertainment team. Who ever heard of having an entertainment team that goes home at 2am when the bars close at 4am? Who has an entertainment team that supposedly is DOG 4 but manage to have most of the weekends off? EVERY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT the watch has to send at least 3-4 people off the watch to supplement the entertainment team, then on Sunday night they are falling all over each other. As long as you can put up with the favoritism rampant in the district including WHATEVER RETARD DOES THE SHEETS, you will be fine because things can always be worse. But if something ever goes wrong and shit hits the fan be on the lookout for a GIGANTIC MEGABUS running people over.

It is a sinking ship. As for the racial tensions i.e. EEOC and CR complaint. That's only on the tact team. Some people are so sensitive.

Recently left the crybaby district of 012 to be closer to home. Most self centered coppers I have ever worked with. Just checked Caboodle. The district is up one shooting and property crime is down about 7%. Don't know why it's down, probably because of gentrification but just needed to point out what kind of a manipulative lying baby you are to post this crap.

Yeah... don't think that's how it works either "old-timer"! If you are a successful bidder, you aren't assigned to the new unit until the first day of the 13th period (06 Dec 15). Watch bids are already completed. You bid in your current unit of assignment, and when you are moved, management has the discretion to honor your bid or not. No such thing as faxing/ hand-carrying your watch selection to your "new home"!
019 used to be something special. We were a family, from the commander on down to the civilians. The merger killed that. 023 was a shitty place, toxic, and full of assholes. That environment continued and they treated 019 like stepchildren, and still do in some ways, especially if you want time off; preference is given to 023 guys.
019 is like any other district now. It's too big, not enough people, and some of the bosses can be dicks. That being said, it's not bad, just not like it was. The food is good, it's not busy, the drunk yuppies drive you nuts but it's better than getting shot at.
To the old 019, miss you guys and hope you landed on your feet and in a better place.
