Prickwrinkle's Budget Passes
- Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's $4.5 billion budget won approval Wednesday, and people who shop, stay in hotels and file lawsuits will be paying more next year.
Overall county spending is expected to increase by about $500 million under a budget commissioners approved 12-5. The spending plan depends on a penny-on-the-dollar sales tax increase, a new 1 percent tax on hotels and $20 in additional fees for each lawsuit filed.
Preckwinkle's budget also includes a 20-cents-per-milliliter tax on the liquids that fuel electronic cigarettes and a bullet tax that ranges from 1 cent to 5 cents per round, depending on the type of ammunition.
Can't wait to leave this over-taxed under-served hell hole.

These appear to be wise and thoughtful taxes that will not even be noticed by the average citizen. At the same time they will provide necessary revenue for the county. Go Toni.
My three favorite words..Welcome to Wisconsin...
Fuck her and rahm! I'll shop in indiana. It's all just over the border.
She sealed the deal - I WON'T be coming into Cook County for ANYTHING anymore. I barely come in now because I feel ripped off on Parking costs and of course, Sales Tax.
Now bullets? Forget Cabela's in Hoffman Estates - they will be dying more now with both a higher tax AND tax on bullets.
Same with restaurants and hotels - higher taxes. Expect some conventions to drop Chicago like a hot potato.
Better start voting in people who understand the term "Cut Spending".
That one percent sales tax increase also applies to motor fuels so it is also a GAS TAX increase. If possible and safe to store a five gallon gas can (look that up) keep that and a small generator handy. ,
Stupid Cook county Chicago politicians are the best thing for business in the surrounding counties. Dupage has to be celebrating. Looks like I'll be buying all my ammo outside of Cook county.
So when I get charged for federal civil rights violations, for emptying my magazine into some mope, can I use the " I could no longer afford to practice my marksmanship in Crook County" as a defense?
So my $10 box of 9mm now costs how much, after city, state, and county taxes? $15?
And how much money do you think this BS will actually bring in?
Is the ammo tax even legal?
Didn't the state pre-empt all firearms laws?
I don't buy gas or ammo in cook county . Anything over 500.00 I buy in Wisconsin or over the Internet . It doesn't matter where I buy cars so I buy them less often . Cook country lost me years ago .
Dear Democratic Tax-aholics.
How I spent this weekend.
Drove to Indiana along 41 to Highland.
At breakfast at a waffle house in one of the many malls that provide free parking, no sending my money to Dubai so I can park in America.
Stopped at Best Buy to buy a flat screen TV, my other one is about 10 years old, which I also bought there. Stopped at Office supply store for, well, office supplies. Crossed street to buy groceries at Meijors. On way home there's a gas station and filled up. Stopped yet to a small gun shop on Kennedy Ave in Hammond. Not to surprisingly, I saw many vehicles w/ Illinois plates & Chicago stickers.
So keep raising taxes. AMF chumps!
"Preckwinkle's budget also includes a 20-cents-per-milliliter tax on the liquids that fuel electronic cigarettes..."
Jesus God. Piddle, piddle, piddle. Have you ever seen a milliliter? You need a hypodermic syringe, or a tiny lab graduate, to measure this.
A) Discourage people from trying these maybe to ease off smoking -- and they were invented so recently that I haven't even had time to look into them, too much stuff at the store as it is and people are busy
B) Disproportionate tax on people who can't easily get out of county to shop
"...and a bullet tax that ranges from 1 cent to 5 cents per round, depending on the type of ammunition."
I guess a brick of .22 just went up by at least $5.00.
C) Drive all taxpaying gun stores out of county
D) Disproportionate tax on recreational shooters
E) No effect whatsoever on criminals, who don't shoot one brick in a lifetime. Never set foot in a gun store, but they never run out of ammo to shoot randomly at houses in the middle of the night...how does this work?
Running out of alphabet here...
"Overall county spending is expected to increase by about $500 million..."
...out of which the average person will see N-O-T-H-I-N-G.
This place is a black hole, a gigantic financial-gravitational suck.
"Cut back" and "outsource" while you raise taxes.
They aren't raking the money into piles and burning it. That means it's going into SOMEONE'S pocket, doesn't it?
They have single-purpose warped minds.
Can't fire or get rid of a few thousand useless county employees - you have to raise taxes? County spending will never change. No County employee cares about spending because it's not there money their spending. Its other peoples money. They will all get raises still.
Well, it looks like another windfall for Indiana.
If you look up the word moron in the dictionary, you see a picture of the Cook Co. Board.
Who has the best prices on ammo in DuPage, Lake, or McHenry? I live in 016 and prefer to buy as close as possible, but out of Cook county.
I've always bought at Cabela's in Hoffman Estates in the past.
Toni has the right idea about taxes. Cook Co. will thrive with this new revenue. A new bright and happy day is dawning over Cook Co.
So when purchasing ammunition, you can automatically exclude Crook county and go over to Indiana or any collar county. Stupid, communist, brain dead shits running the show here.
The happiest day of my adult life will be watching this city, county and state fade in my rear view mirror.
End patronage in county government, especially in the Cook County Court Clerk's office and the Assessors office and this would go a long way to reducing the budget.Only necessary jobs and people doing the job descriptions and paid no more then what is paid in private sector and the budget probably would balance.
Do not reelect!
Why do we need a county government????????
I either go to GAT or Walmart up the street on 25 off of 90. Even with traffic on 90, I can usually make it in 30-40 minutes.
I buy my gas and cigarette in Ind. have been for many years only $56. .00 for a carton gas is always 40 cents lower.
Can't wait to leave this over-taxed under-served hell hole.
You will love it!! Two years for me now and I can't even stand coming back here for Thanksgiving! Love reading the blog everyday just so I can bust the balls of people who still live here (especially after retiring!)
I wonder if anyone has tried following Preckwinckle.around to see where she does her shopping. I would be willing to bet that it isnt anywhere in crook county...
This bitch reminds me of Chairman Mao, always wearing the same shit like its a uniform.
Taxes bring wealth and prosperity to a city/county. Your local government knows best how to spend it's money. Look at it this way, any tax dollars going into local government is dollars that are not being wasted on frivolous stuff by some citizen.
Hell hole it is but you'd better have your bullets and just go thirsty👮🏽🤑🤔!!!

Sounds like you had a great and enjoyable weekend. Wish I could have had so much fun
Boys and girls, go North on 94 to highway 50 Kenosha. 50 miles up from downtown. They have a Gander Mountain for all of your outdoor activity needs. Also a Woodmans grocery that is open 24/7 and is employee owned. No tax on food ! They only take cash or debit cards though...no credit cards at Woodmans. Huge store and they have a large liquor store inside the store.
They also have gas pumps and it is usually 35-40 cents cheaper than here. A Best Buy, a Dicks, A Costco, Target, Sports Authority, Walgreens, Etc. One stop shopping, no tax on food, and the much lower Wisconsin taxes on everything else. And FREE parking!!
Stop at Culvers or BWWings, the Brat Stop for a bite and a suds and have a nice relaxing ride back home with your bank account still in the black.
Thanks Rahm and Toni.
I'd call the county board a bunch of whores....but that would be insulting to whores.♠️
Everytime I think about coming back onto the city of Chicago and spend my hard earned $$$ all I have to do is read this blog. Then I stay in the non-cook county 'burbs. Maybe more should do that.
I live in Texas and today, I filled up with regular gasoline for $1.79 per gallon.
Unbelievable...She ran saying that she would lower the tax rate in cook county. It higher than anyone else's in the nation. Watch cook county have a mass exodus. Add in the property tax hike, and water tax hike, and your looking at a ghost town in a few decades. No middle class, or lower class type will be able to afford a home.
Will County. Nice places to live. Open land in spots Taxes much less. Gas was $1.99 yesterday. Not perfect but better than Cook.
Soooo Rahm and company shoves that knife deep in our back with his taxes and this bitch comes along and shoves it even further. Time for a revolt. This is genuine fucking bullshit.

Another CPS math genius.
I buy as much as possible as I can outside of Chicago and outside of Crook County.
Looks like Cabela's is going to have to lower its profit margin on ammo or see a ton of business go to GAT.
Gas is $1.74 in Woodstock,Ill. BP on Highway 47

Wow. That sounds like fun.
So what will the sales tax in Cook county be now? 10.75?
So buy your Ammo via the Internet, and have it shipped to someone you know outside Cook County. Fill up your gas tank, and do some shopping when U go to pick it up.
Fight Fire with Fire...
Effective January 1, 2016, Chicago will have the highest sales tax in the nation: 10.25 percent.
Are YOU cerebral enough to take this hint? I didn't think so.
The capital crime execution chamber in Huntsville is constantly busy. There is no state income tax in Texas and eight other states.

Some internet ammo stores will ship to Cook county. Buy in bulk for friends and cut the shipping costs.
