Spike's Box Office

Anyone hear how Spike's "Chi-Raq" did at the box office?

We heard it only lost $10-to-12,000,000.

On the bright side, the Academy is looking for Best Picture nominees shortly.

Best Picture and Best Everything in my opinion

.. SECRET IN THEIR EYES ..

The only thing that will keep this movie from taking Best Picture, all the acting awards, Best Directing, Best Adaptive Screenplay and everything else except the SFX awards is the fact that is a very human cop story.

Too bad Hollywood does not like cop stories even if it have one of the best performances ever of Julia Roberts.

Cops who have seen the real emotional carnage of what murder does and have carried it with them would understand.

When he doesn't win any awards,it will be due to the racist Hollywood establishment.

You know, institutional racism. That's common knowledge, right? Isn't that always the reason?

It couldn't possibly be that it is just garbage.

He had a chance to actually do some good by focusing on inner city black on black violence, and he comes up with a sex strike. What a non-creative, no talent, waste of a so-called black role model. What a joke. But watch... He will be praised by the liberal establishment. Asshats!

The Govmint bailed out his efforts - Rahm/Rauner silently gave his production company the tax relief he demanded.
It's about jobs and community-opportunity. S'puke Lee wrote the whole production off as a minority business loss...win-win for him. Free govmint money plus a huge govmint write off.
There's a reason why S'puke Lee didn't go to Toronto to film that crap movie, ghetto slums don't exist and to build one would have could cost him over $3mil. Finding enough Canadian extras would be tough too. Movie labor is cheap in Canada, cheaper than any tax relief that can be had in Chicago. But a weak movie, destined to fail with a poor review, a story line that could only be self produced, aided by second rate writing and co-producers, it's apparent that the only way to make money on a film of this caliber is to play the generous equal opportunity Chicago Way®.
S'puke Lee knew what he was doing and Rahm once again folded and opened the City's wallet.

It is a great movie, should get an Oscar. In fact it probably is the best movie/story in the past 50 years. The real nity gritty and truth about Chicago. It will have you laughing and crying all in the same movie.

#1) I don't go to the movie theaters any longer. Tickets cost too much, concessions are rancid ripoffs, parking costs too much, traffic sucks, and there's always some schmuck with a cell phone texting or blathering on about nothing during the movie. Heaven forbid you tell them to cut it out - they'll get out the meat thermometer and stick you in the neck with it.

Then there's the weak bladders, loud munchers, jerks with their feet on the seat behind you, tall people sitting in front of you...

Screw it - I've got a 7.2 THX-rated sound system on a 50" screen at home. I can hit PAUSE. I've got better food. Much lower cost on pay-per-view, and even lower if I just stream it from Amazon or play a DVD...

#2) Did you see the trailer for this craptastic cinematic masterpiece? Instead of an in-depth, potentially enlightening documentary about everything that causes Chicago to be called "Chiraq", he turned it into a "Ya'll ain't getting no pussy if ya'll don't put down dem gunz" totally baked, worthless piece of crap.

That's total fiction - never gonna work because... well, crack ho's?

I'm surprised it grossed $2M.

WTF Bought that poke on since Spike Lee had nothing to do with SECRET IN THEIR EYES.

This movie was written and directed by Billy Ray and is a remake of an Argentine movie that won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. You obviously didn't see either one. Anyone who does see it should pay attention there is a hell of a plot twist (SCC please don't post any spoilers on this one).

The only movie that dickhead ever made which was half-way decent was "Do The Right Thing". I fondly recall when the wife & myself went to see it when it came out many years ago @ the Evergreen Plaza movie theater. We were the only white people in the place as far as I could see. There was a lotta "screen-talkin'" that night, believe you me!

This is a popular illusion. The reality is --

We can’t keep tiptoeing around black-on-black violence

The Toronto Globe and Mail

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013

"Much has been said about the fact that the three youths shot to death in Toronto in the past few weeks were all a mere 15 years old. Quite a bit has been said about the fact that they all died in public housing. Very little has been said about another fact – all three were black.

"Street violence is taking a tragic toll on black men and boys in this city. Both as victims and as perpetrators, they are caught up all too often. If you pick up the paper or turn on the computer after reports of a shooting, stabbing or violent robbery, chances are the face staring out at you will be black.

"Pockets of the city where unemployment and dropout rates are high, where many sons grow up without a father, where gangs and guns are all around, have become dangerous traps for what social workers call at-risk youth. More often than not, they turn on each other. Black-on-black violence is a disfiguring stain on the face of the city’s multicultural success. It is an uncomfortable truth that, as a welcoming and liberal city, we prefer to ignore. The political class won’t talk about it for fear of being labelled racist. The media are almost as cowed.

"In days of coverage after the killing of Jarvis Montaque, the latest of three 15-year-olds to be gunned down, it was almost never mentioned. The first honest reference I heard was on Wednesday’s Metro Morning , the CBC Radio show that has been bolder than most at exploring the roots of this sad phenomenon. “Why are we losing young black men in the city?” asked host Matt Galloway."

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/we-cant-keep-tiptoeing-around-black-on-black-violence/article8907404/

Reads exactly like the stories from everywhere else.

Can't blame "racist police in America" for this one, huh?

MAYBE THE POLICE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.

Spike is a fourth generation graduate of morehouse. He wears funny clothing, but comes from a privileged family. His films are more comedy. Malcolm x was his best. He deserves to lose money on this. He is old now, five minutes ago.

First of all, he should have named it Chenglewood to have it be more accurate and should have cast someone like Steve Buscemi to play Phleger.

I think his best movie was INSIDE MAN with Denzel Washington.

It's only made $2 Million so far at the box office. (That'll cover about a third of Samuel L. Jackson's paycheck) Good thing the tax payers helped poor Spike fund that piece of shit…… Wouldn't want him to lose money on such a fine film.
