- First Tuesday with Mick and Ben is a monthly political forum held at The Hideout Bar, 1354 W. Wabansia. Mick and Ben are columnists who this month invited reporter Mary Ann Ahern to discuss CPD. I'm not completely certain, but I do think that Ahern is on the side of the police. She married a south side guy, I believe. He went to one of those all-boys Catholic schools. I do know that Rahm tried to make her feel like shit. And we all know that Mick and Ben do not like the Rahm.

That $5 would easily turn into $100 after an hour of rabble. So I think the benefit is to the establishment to sell you stuff.
I wouldn't expect a massive fraternal turnout either, based on attendance at FOP meetings and they did include free pizza.
But an advance notice and some dedicated district organizers, I could see us pack the house and order all the water we wanted just to hear whats on their minds. Our experience in "shouting down" speakers at FOP is renowned. But The #BowelMovementMatter will probably crash the place anyway and that would be a disaster...having to hug all those deadbeats.
If anyone does go, bring plenty of rotten tomatoes & heads of lettuce to toss at the stage too.

I've been to several of these First Tuesdays. Joravsky is an unapologetic leftist, he mentions it often, but he is spot on when he attacks the TIF program. The other guy, Mick, is now with the Sun Times. They had that goof ex-alderman Dick Mell a few months ago, what a blowhard. In November Eric Zorn and Carol Marin were in the audience. It's actually a good time for $5. Maybe a 100 people in the room, get there at 6:00 if you want a seat. Cheap beer, live Chicago politics, give it a try, you might like it.

A real media dog-and-pony show. The media people made it clear right from the get-go that this was THEIR show and THEY were the stars.
As expected they went into the McDonald shooting. All they really had to say was that there were 16 shots fired. No mention of how many bullets hit or hit in non-incapacitating areas. Main stated that she had not read all the reports of the shooting and has no intention of doing so. This did not stop her from being an expert.
At one point it was brought up about police training. Marin suggested why didn't the police shoot him in the leg. Mick Dumke kind of stood up for the police, explaining that when shooting is necessary, most important to make the shots count and shoot for the body.
Marin brought up about the distance police maintain when dealing with knife-armed suspects, stating 10 feet. She stated at that distance the suspect could throw the knife at the officer. No suspect with a knife throws his weapon.
Several officers in the crowd corrected her on that and the crowd did not want to hear that. A very anti-police crowd.
Either Marin or Ahern admitted that every profession has its "code of silence", even the media. But stated that pointing out a fellow colleague is not a good career move, so it doesn't happen.

As the night wore on, the old stories got rethrashed. Yes, Burge was mentioned. Kotchman. Even tho that was well over 20 years ago. No mention why the media was silent on the Daley parking meter deal. Or the Hired Truck scandal.
Marin had to leave the stage briefly as her car was being towed. Too bad. She got there in time to save it.

Off topic, heard it in the news today that Baltimore PD Porter whose trial ended a couple of weeks ago in a mistrial with re trial slated in spring was given immunity today for compelled testimony in the wagon driver case coming up before Porters retrial. What the hell kind of decision is that? He is in jeapordy but the judge sees it within legal guidelines to give him immunity? That immunity will never stand. Porter, you and your lawyer need to appeal that one. No one in jeapordy should ever be compelled in another case until their underlying case is adjudicated. Am I wrong?
