- Departing U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan used the final address of his tenure to call for a "new deal" for youth in Chicago and the nation, but also waded into the city's police controversy with a call for changes in law enforcement training and conduct to repair eroded trust between police and the community.
"Today we have good cops who feel that they don't have a chance — when cops unnecessarily use deadly force and aren't held accountable, and when other cops witness that behavior and lie about it, (and) they aren't held accountable," Duncan said to a small crowd that included the Rev. So I am wondering if some of the juvenilles who commit crimes are those juvenilles that CPS had no place for, rather than juvenilles who dropped out. I'm wondering if CPS cutbacks are creating crime.

Most of the Domestic calls we respond to can be handled over the phone because a vast majority are calls to illegally evict a family member or "Disrespecting" nonsense. Civil matters, animal calls, and a lot of calls can be handled over the phone and police don't have to be put into situations where they are forced to protect themselves.
My other question, why is a "Man with a gun" a priority call or even a call that requires a police response. Isn't it LEGAL for citizens in Illinois to carry a gun? KW

He put his resume to be the next Superintendent. I don't think he is black enough but if Rahm puts a black female as his 1st Deputy you might see it happen. Be carful what you wish for.

The United States Government, all State and County Governments all got out of the mental health business years ago because they realized that the exorbitant amount of money spent on mental health could now be diverted to more free handouts under the guise of social welfare. This assured them more votes come election time. They reasoned that most people in mental health facilities could be treated with medication eliminating the need for these facilities. There are a couple of problems with that thinking, first the mental person has to get the medication and secondly they have to take the medication daily, what could possibly go wrong?. The downside to assimilating these people who should be institutionalized into society means that family members, the public and the police are going to be harmed by a great majority of these people. There is a similar movement under way to decriminalize crime. Many who are classified as non-violent felons are being turned back to the streets after serving less than 25% of their original sentence. The crime they went to prison for may have been non-violent but when they come out, most will go on to commit violent crimes after learning the law of the jungle in prison. We as a nation are in the adolescence of socialism. With all the proactive measures floating around to take guns away they will find a way to accomplish it. Then they can sit back and watch our country destabilize and then send in the troops to restore order that will turn our country into Communist Russia 30 years ago. Think about it, the average household works 3 1/2 months just to satisfy their federal tax burden. When you add in Obama Care which is nothing more than a tax, state, county and municipal sales taxes, income taxes, property taxes, utility taxes, gas taxes, tobacco taxes, alcohol taxes, bottled water taxes and then think about the fees in Chicago, garbage pickup, water and sewer, selling your home you will pay $900.00 for every $100,000 (so if you're selling your $300,000 home you pay $2700.00 and the buyer pays $900.00) for state county and city transfer taxes. Hope I didn't leave any out but something tells me I did. Best investment to hedge against a bad economy and to provide you with the highest level of safety of your most precious investments, Lead and lead covered with a copper jacket and the proper instruments to take them to market.
World trade organization told the United States today that it can no longer put the country of origin on meat products. This frickin place is socialized, no doubt about it.
I think the public has lost trust with the Board of Education. Regarding accountability, how is it the number of teachers have to be reduced, but the number of board members continues to increase, especially with the increase of charter schools? The Board of Ed has nothing to do with charter schools once they are approved by the board, and opened.

I demanded to be taken to the Piccadilly Theater to see that, and marched around the neighborhood for weeks afterward singing the theme song, of course with my trusty wood-stocked, bolt-action Parris "Kadet" training rifle from the Woolworths.

just plain false.
the courts said that government could no longer incarcerate people without due process so most of the people who were formerly in mental institutions ended up out on the street because they were not deemed dangerous to themselves or others.
the problem is that they still need treatment, but they are not going to get it out on the street or in jail.

Uh, have you SEEN Emanuel shoving deescalante out of the way at press conferences? Have you SEEN how he pulls deescalante's sleeve when he's afraid he'll say something wrong, or give too much information?
Rahm doesn't trust Escalante to do the job. It's obvious. And, with some of the comments here about things the guy may be tangled up in, Rahm isn't going to give him the job. He's a place-holder, nothing more.
Dart will be the next Mayor.
