Just the other day on Zone 11 the dispatcher came up and asked us to read our job assignment. WHY? she was embarrassed at the job being dispatched to a two man car.
Almost the same as the one in this blog. Please approach mental subject with care, he is sick and not a threat. (Then why call for the police? Call for ambulance.)
But the Fire dispatch refused the job the second they said subject was mental case.

I have kin somewhere in Chicago. I had an aunt Gracie, big woman with enough lipstick on those smackers to smooch a hundred nephews. Aunt Gracie had a heart of gold. This was during a time when Chicago was relatively at peace with itself, and the only thing anyone had to dodge was cars driving on the sidewalks at rush hour.
Being a retired USMC Infantryman, there is one golden rule of leadership. Listen to those who operate in the field. They are the greatest source for intelligence and a source of solutions.
Police Officers are no different. They are the ones directly engaged with the community and through their suggestions can have an immediate effect on deteriorating conditions.
People by and large have absolutely no clue of the tremendous pressure that officers in the field are under. From top to bottom everyone wants a piece of them. People and family forget that police officers are as human as the people they are interacting with. But there is a limit of abuse that a human being can take.This is why it is so important that the command structure deeply know their people in the field. Sometimes all it takes is just sitting down with a field officer over a cup of coffee and just let them release the demons inside them. I have done this many times with junior Marines and not say a word, I let them do the talking until they are finished. My wife used to give me hell, for coming home late, but I just couldn't let a fellow Marine crash and burn.
Well I've run my chops long enough,and I'll get off my soap box. Nowadays I miss that big old aunt Gracie. I was king of the nephews and could do no wrong. Maybe one day I'll get up Chicago way and look for family, and piss of my doctor by having some of that Chicago famous pizza.
Thats easy. Drive real slowly to the scene, about 2 blocks out hit your lights and sirens. They scatter, you arrive, subjects GOA. problem solved, problem staying solved.

If the caller didn't believe that this was a "violent" situation why didn't they or the neighbors go out and take care of it? Your comment is quite foolish. God bless the call taker for recording the caller's request. If they had not, the request is so ludicrous, you wouldn't believe it actually occurred. Plus, if I were the responding p/o or p/o's, I would have appreciated the insight into the caller's frame of mind.

Gang enforcement makes up 6% of the police Department. Yet last year they were doing 20% of measurable activity. To thank them the city took them out of organized crime ( nobody really cared) removed their resources ( nobody cared) and took away their over time ( we care about that). After moving to patrol, the department announced (this week) they would be moved to the 10hr day starting this Sunday. Yea and they all rejoiced, but wait then Dean Angelo stepped in and stopped the 10hr schedule. Dean cited that he wanted to use the GED as leverage for negotiations on other things. So, screw over a couple hundred guys for a political objective. Dean also used the excuse that he was protecting us from the city making us work at 2200hrs in the summer. News flash dip shit, they can do that now, were a non-bid unit. Perhaps dean has a bigger objective? Certainly this news will cause those effected to become less proactive and will lend in to the rising crime rates. At some point Dean will try to use the crime rates to argue for additional manpower. Unfortunately for the murdered, is not a clever strategy asshole, it’s a cruel strategy. Dean Angelo is not your friend he is an obstructionist who will have blood on his hands!!

Now you know how black officers felt who were assigned to the 004th District back in the 80s and 90s who had to respond to calls for service (or requests for backup) in the East Side/Hegewisch area. We were all pretty much treated the same way, possibly worse back then. By the way, back in those days, black officers were never assigned to 30 sector cars. Not one! I bet no white officer can make THAT claim in any district they've ever been assigned to. Deal with it, as we had to back then. It's all part of the job!

Now you know how black officers felt who were assigned to the 004th District back in the 80s and 90s who had to respond to calls for service (or requests for backup) in the East Side/Hegewisch area. We were all pretty much treated the same way, possibly worse back then. By the way, back in those days, black officers were never assigned to 30 sector cars. Not one! I bet no white officer can make THAT claim in any district they've ever been assigned to. Deal with it, as we had to back then. It's all part of the job!

That was twenty-five years ago. A shame it happened to you, but the department has evolved, as has the world. It's what we're all supposed to be striving for.
Some of the stories of what happened to the first women coming on in the late 70's and early 80's are pretty rotten, too, but by the time I left, much of that had changed. Nothing's perfect, but what everyone should be aiming for is improvement. Always improvement.

The anti-white and anti-police cracks, comments, references - tirades at times - that accompany many of these interactions would blow the mind of the The Average Joe. Most people have absolutely no clue just how racist the majority of blacks that we deal with daily really are - and that's a fact.

The call taker needs to be terminated for writing that. Even if the caller said that, to repeat it is a political action due to the current climate. That police force hating mindset is toxic and offensive. Fire the call taker, and place the caller into mental evaluation.

You think you wouldn't want the calltaker's head if you got to the job to find it was some stupid ass attempt at an ambush, and when the call/tape got reviewed and you found that was said to the calltaker but he/she didn't put it in the event causing you to give pause or be extra vigilant?? You wouldn't claim it was an officer safety issue and a failure to provide all information given????

I had a job in a Taylor building back in the mid 90's, the old woman was actually glad a white and hispanic officer showed up to handle her job. In her opinion, all the black officers were GD's or just gangster police.

Are they serious?! President's salary on top of 75% tax free disability?!?!?! It is no wonder how that union got worse in the last year.

Sorry I think you got your numbers wrong. Dean gave up running the Calumet College program and took a 90k hit there. He rolled back the President's salary by 40k. The by-law they passed does not take effect till the next term he's doing it voluntarily. He re-inverses the union every dollar he gets from the disability. Again voluntarily. Could you see Shields, Dougherty or balloon head Donahue doing that?
That being said he should have just let his daughter do this fund me thing for her dog by herself. But dads do look out for their daughters.
But if you think this such a big thing run for president. I think he was the right guy at the right time for what was going on when he took office

The female officers in 014 in as late as 1987 were treated very poorly by some of their male counterparts. It was ignored for the most part by both bosses and other patrolmen. Sexual harassment laws were either nonexistent or just coming into existence at that time, and if and when a female beefed for any reason, her job became extremely dangerous, as 014 was a very busy and high crime district at that time. The main culprits were never dealt with and the culture became the norm. Very difficult time and place for females on the job. After having revisited the district many years later, i perceived that there is still a distinct and pervasive anti female atmosphere which exists there among some of the older male officers who work there.
"Well after looking at this job, I thought to myself what has brought us to this? One answer. That goof Garry McCarthy and his agreement with the ACLU."
There is no way McCarthy signed off on that agreement by himself. That had to be cleared by top dogs.
City Law Department.

Re-inverses? Are you fucking serious? With your smarts, we'll never have to worry about you taking advantage of the city's tuition REIMBURSEMENT policy. Even if Dean isn't making 90k from Calumet College, and took a 40k pay cut, he and his wife still make plenty of money to afford a 15k vet bill. Also, and I hate to say this, since I'm a dog lover, that dog beds to just be allowed to die. It will never be ok. Sometimes you need to just realize when it's time to let go. For all the officers and families out there who could actually use donations for real problems and health issues, this clown lets his daughter use his FOP president Facebook page to beg for money for a dog that's as good as dead? Ridiculous.
